I miss the pool!  Everyone is talking about swimming and I want it   Does anyone have a bike trainer?  I need some advice about getting one.... I am thinking about saving my pennies because I love riding and would love to keep it up!

Have a great night everyone!!

I have been researching bike trainers and found that most of the home exercise bikes and spinning bikes have a different peddle configuration than what we ride.  So, they are good for your fitness but may not help with the riding as much.  The "right kind" tends to cost a lot more.  I have a file of notes on them somewhere.  If I find it I will post or send you a PM with the info.

I know I will have one of the tri-trainers some day but not until I have a place to put it.  At the moment, any more equipment like that will be in the garage.  I am not inspired by working out in the garage with the Tucson desert all around me.

Can't go wrong with a Cycleops fluid trainer!!! Bought one last year and LOVE IT!!!!! Get the front with block with it and you can also simulate hills. You won't regret it. But don't just take my word for it, do a search on here for bike trainers and you'll get PLENTY of info!!!

I've got a mag trainer at home and it's pretty decent.  It does have manual adjustments for the resistance level which I like. I really like that it has a spring loaded adjustment that applies tension to the rear wheel. Most trainers have a manual adjustment and I have friends who are tearing up their rear tires on the trainer.  The only drawback is that magnetics are louder than fluid.  I got it at Performancebike.com for about $150 on sale. I also have some spinervals dvd's but haven't used those yet. I have compiled a set of trainer workouts than I can email if anyone wants them.  I'm headed home to sleep for a couple of hrs and then probably spin class with the wife at 930am.

I really hope that the deafening silence in this thread is due to everyone being out getting in a workout or two.  Even on my two hours of sleep, I managed to go do an hr spin class this am.... How's that for guilt?

Apparently not.
No workout today. Bleh!

Amy M - Nice run!

Julie - Glad to hear you got your power back on!

(Look Eric, another post with THREE replies in it. And NO glitter....)

Wait - I can do the three replies. I can't do the "no glitter." So, here:

Well, my nice warm outdoor run turned into a wet slushy, run inside that got cut short because of an achy arch.  So I did do a little workout and it was nice.

Thanks for the info about the trainers.  My biggest problem is my bike is at home and I am not sure how to transport it from WI to MN without a car... any ideas?

Nice job today everyone!  Get a good night's sleep and let's have another great training day!

question??? how did your warm and sunny outside run turn into a wet a slushy inside run? sorry about the achy arch...how long have you had your shoes? maybe you need additional arches. I would have a running store analyze your foot and tell you what it is that may help you.

Not sure about shipping bikes...do a search in the forums...or start a thread. Sure that there will be many suggestions.

Have a great evening...

Well the run was more of a I was excited because I saw the weather was suppose to be really nice so I am like hey I will run outside.  Went to town to get some food and saw the roads were trashed because of the melting snow so it was like oh, I guess I am not running outside because my running shoes are really nice and I don't want to hurt them yet so I guess I will run on the dreadmill.  And then the arch started hurting.

The shoes are pretty new....at most 50 miles on them.  I was on my feet for a really long time at the grocery store so maybe that started the inflammation.   But who knows.  I am stretching it and took some more ibuprofen so hopefully that will help!

I think I will probably start a thread in discussion about the bike.  I really want to take "Bikey" with me back to school...but dang it, I don't have a car!  Oh well....I still have two weeks to figure it out!  Have a good night!

Julie - I like your new avatar, it really hits home I feel we are the most alike in age and attitude, I know you will succeed! And I love the positive energy you put out, it's contagious.

Pam - have you had an arch problem before? You trained smart when cutting it short, everyone should listen to their bodies, so they can make it to race season without any big injury setback... I can't wait to watch all my Tri-daughters challenges/accomplishments!!!!

Dee - Thanks for making my days shine with glitter, it spices up the drab days, and makes the good days better. You have done great considering you have felt icky for a while...Hang in there and get well.

Eric - thanks for being a good mentor and checking up on my progress, I always welcome an educated assessment, or even an opion for that matter. Thanks!

Amy - Thanks for checking in on me even though you have your hands full with kids, I know that time of my life was overwhelming sometimes.

Emerson - I enjoy your views on training and life, you also have a positive energy put out. You give me hope that I can become a better runner even at my age!

I know Chris, Grant and Mike have been soooo busy, and trying to fit in training when they can... I hope you will find your groove and things won't be crazey and work levels out!!! Thanks for checking in with me even though your busy.

So update on the arch...it isn't actually my arch at all, but me beings stupid and not knowing my parts of my foot.  It is the far edge of my foot, furthest from my arch.  I have done some reading and all it saids is rest/ice/ibuprofen because no one really knows what the problem is or how to fix it.  Has anyone had any problems like this?  I know it is not my running shoes...they are pretty new.  I just don't know.  It is feeling better today.  I am going to try biking tomorrow at Stadium...hopefully that will be okay.

Everyone have a great rest of your weekend!  Take it easy and have some fun!!

Got in a 25 mile trainer ride today and then a short swim this afternoon. I wasn't really all that much in the mood for a swim.  Karen was wanting to go swim so we took the girls with us.  I watched them while she swam and then we switched.  I just couldn't get in the groove mentally or physically so I bagged it instead of being miserable.

Julie - Beth and I always all over the place in the Challenges. (The result is that our names are now emblazoned permanently at the top of the forum....) And yes, I know that I padded your team's post count. I figure it wouldn't matter much in the long run. You've got Beth, Hector and Lyssa. LOL.... Sleep? What's sleep?

Pam - Sorry to hear about your foot! Is it a muscle? Or some other type of injury? Also, you said your shoes are pretty new. How long have you been wearing them? Are they they same brand as your previous shoes?

Eric - You were in the pool! How can you be miserable? (Unless you were in MY pool today - with a 3 year old kid who screamed nonstop for 90 minutes. I swear he inhaled twice during that time. The rest was a constant high-pitched screech. Darling child....)

In other news, I've been sick, so I haven't been working out. BUT I hit the pool today anyway. (Something about falling behind with my challenge goals, ya know....) AND.... drum roll please.... I had THREE personal bests! Three! Without even trying???? Is that bizarre, or what. (Maybe I need to take more rest days! LOL)

Dee--great job on 3 personal records today.  Sometimes a little rest is just what the doctor ordered to make you faster   That's a good lesson come race day. That reminds me--were you able to register for any events thru Setup?  The Charlotte races all filled up in less than an hr (500 to 800 spots each).

We fell off the front page!  What happened??  No posting on here last night?

It's Monday--what's everyone up to today?  It's supposed to 70 in Charlotte so I'm going for a 30 mile ride or so with a guy from work.  I also need to try to sneak in a 4-5 mile run and some weight lifting....should be a slack day

Pam, I would take my new shoes to a running store and ask them to analyze your foot and shoe. Could be that you lacing your shoes to tight around your foot...or too loose...just a thought! Good luck...if you can....you still need to at least walk your jan challenge....walking counts! Sorry that you are in pain! Sux!

I hate stinky rain!   I just got back from 31 miles on a beautiful (although slightly windy) 71 degree January day in NC.  Of course, the wife and I are doing a 50k ride on Saturday (aptly named the Polar Bear ride) and the forecast is for 41.  Such is winter here....shorts one day and a sweatshirt the next.
