This is my bottle - you also need to buy a backet to go between your aerobars.  http://www.trisports.com/profaersys.html  The bottle has 2 holes for the straw so you can put it closer or further depending on what is most comfortable for you.  If you get poked in the eye with your aero bottle straw you need a new bike fit cause there's something wrong!  LOL

Yes, my sprint was yesterday.  Yes, the swim was 1/2 mile.  The distance was fine however there were sharp rocks 150 or so yards out that tore up my hands, when I got out I was a bloody mess!  I also found out this morning that during the swim there was a gator sighting!  Glad I didn't know that yesterday!  They didn't split the Athena's this time and I came in 4th.  All the gals that finished ahead of me were under 40.  There was a battle at the finish and I smoked her!  It will all be in my RR when I get a chance.

Now that Keri has kicked butt (again) and swam with bloodied hands and alligators, who is competing next?  I personally, may wait until October before I try another tri (is that redundant?).  Joe, Chas2, non-mentor Tim ... any races, tri's, duathons in your immediate future?

Hello All,

School just started back up so I have been very busy.  I have my first ever triathlon coming up on Saturday.  It is only a sprint, but I have been training for an Olympic size one so I am not too worried about the conditioning.  I am a little worried about participating in my first tri ever though.  I was going to see if people had any suggestions that might help me (this includes transition tips, what to be doing these next few days, what to eat leading up to race including the morning of, and really anything that you might find helpful).

Welcome back Andrew!  I have settled on an english muffin with peanut butter and a cup of coffee about 3 hours before the race start.   Water up until the race start and one gel about 15 minutes before the swim.

I saved a ton of time attaching my bike shoes to my pedals and then securing to the bike with rubber bands for a quick T1 (but I practiced jumping on my bike and getting my feet in before the race).

I am also planning on sprinkling my running shoes with powder to make it easier to slip my feet in.  I use the yanks laces which eliminated the need to lace my shoes.  I am also planning on getting an aero bottle (thanks Keri!) to insure that I drink enough on the bike.

Best of luck and you need to LET US KNOW how you did!

While, looking back in this forum to familiarize myself with Andrew, I noticed there were a couple of folks who joined this group who we have never heard from again!  If you are still out there join us!

best of luck Andrew.  you'll do great.  forget about the little 'get quicker' things, and focus on breathing and sighting in the swim, and pacing on your bike and run.  once you do your first tri, then try to incorp. non-conditioning stuff.  Kick butt!

next (and last of year) race....Nations Oly, 9/13/09.  Looking forward to a PR, and to takning a month off!

Congrats Keri!

sorry gang that I've been MIA for a few days...was busy over the wknd and then had internet issues at work the last couple of days.  so now that I got that fixed, I should be around a bit more like normal.

I have been struggling to find time to ride my bike during the week.  Because my daily commute is so long I would have to bike between 5-6:30am.  It is pretty dark at 5am but I do live in a somewhat rural area of central NJ.  Any thoughts on cycling in the dark morning hours?

Also, does anyone recommend a cheap bike computer with cadence?  I am just looking for the bare minimum ...

I use a flasher on the back of my rear hydration.  they're cheap, $6 or so.

Yeah, I'll have to invest in one.  It is supposed to rain all weekend, I could use one right now.  I saw you and Tim's weekend cycling plans.  Save yourselves for the HONEYMOON!

Hello All,

I have officially completed my first triathlon.  It was the McMinnville Sprint.  Out of ~250 participants I got 45th overall.  I finished 4th in my age division and 4th in the Beginner bracket.  My T1 time was laughable at 2:54. Had I trimmed 3 seconds off my time I would have gotten 3rd in the Beginner Bracket and had I finished 35 seconds earlier I would have gotten 3rd in my age bracket.  The swim was 350m, bike was ~15.25mi, run was 5k (3.1mi). My overall time was 1hr 18min and 35s.  I am now looking to buy either a tri or road bike.  Does anyone have suggestions on which would be better and where is a good place to buy?

I am actually racing this weekend and next weekend (might not be the best idea, but I have the bug and I want to get two more tris in before I call it quits for a month or two).

I signed up for another sprint on 9/20 in Long Branch NJ "War at the Shore".  This will be my third and probably last tri this year.  I am hoping to improve my time by a couple of minutes now that I am a "seasoned" triathlete!

Have a great race!

Thanks Charlie1.  We had a great wknd.  We delayed our honeymoon to January so we could take off when its nice and cold in PA.

Laura is off to Barcelona for a week for work,  but I get to race this wknd.  My buddy Brad (weds19) and I are doing Patriot Game tri...its a 2-person team tri where you are allowed to draft off of each other on the bike.  Its setup as follow;

0.75 run, 1.5mi canoe, 14mi bike, 5k run.

Laura and I also signed up for Chesepeakeman Ultra on Sept 26th.  Just starting to taper for it now.  Actually we had some friends pay for the entry as a wedding gift!

Can you canoe?   Laughing

That's pretty interesting, it must be tough to train for canoeing unless you live on a lake or canal!

My next triathlon on 9/20 will have some special competitors:

To be honest, our canoeing was very bad.  We did this race two years ago and were 2nd into the water but something like 15th out of the water...we made it up on the bike though...ended up 1st off the bikes and then we cruised the 5k for the win.

You may get your picture in Self Magazine too.  The one gal is fast...3:31 NYC Marathon is no joke.
