I think doing another 5k would be fine Dee... as long as you take it easy this week...if you enjoy it and just go and have fun treat it as a worout and enjoy!

If you want to doit why not? Its not like you are trying to do half marathons back to back

For me, a 5k IS a half-marathon! LOL

<--- So not a runner.

madkat - 2009-04-29 4:33 PM ..... Maybe if I just say "I'll weigh less at the end of May than I did at the beginning..."

Me too - I think I should have that goal too!

I'm still trying to get the hang of this site. How does everyone know others training, do you look individually at everyones log? Is there an easier way that comes with paid membership? Any tips on that?

I just look at people's logs. They show how much people have worked out, of if they have a race coming up, etc.

As for the paid memberships, here's a good page that compares them. The whole page is informational, but there's a side-by-side comparison at the bottom. (Look for "Membership Comparison & Pricing")

losta - 2009-04-29 8:42 AM Hmmmmm...Goals. I am awaiting a training plan for SheROX that begins May 11th. I plan to try to follow that as I see fit. Between now and then I just want to keep up what I'm doing since I just started up from complete couch potato April 12th.

I feel fitter, I lost some weight (my clothes are loose and feel I may be back to a smaller size within a few weeks) I'm eating better and yesterday I wasn't even tempted by some free bagels and muffins that were available, so I consider myself well on my way but I have very far to go.

I am even thinking of signing up for another sprint tri that is about 6 weeks after my first.

Thanks everyone for the inspires and posts they have all been interesting and supportive. I'm still trying to get the hang of this site. How does everyone know others training, do you look individually at everyones log? Is there an easier way that comes with paid membership? Any tips on that?

Nope, check everyones log is the best way. the memberships give you better training plans, live chat and some other stuff, i found it well worth the $$$. congrats on the weight loss and looser fitting clothes, there is no better feeling than getting into something that never used to fit!!!

x2 what the puppy said!

Looking at individual logs is the way to go in terms of finding out what training others are doing.

Chat can be really good - especially if you are around once a month with the coaches do the Q&A sessions as quite often its not that busy so you do get to ask questions - plus there are some pretty knowledgable BTers around too!

If you want training plans then I would suggest the Silver memebership as the plans available are much more detailed with workout specifics. I have followed one in the past but they are also great for looking at and getting an idea of the level of training involved and what components go into individual workouts.

Its much much cheaper than getting a coach too!

Hi !  I Hope everyone is having a good week!  It's almost Friday and that gets a BIG YAY from meLaughing  My S/O's (aka significant other aka boyfriend) parents are coming to town tonight and staying with us through Monday so we'll be busy entertaining them.  I hope I can still get in all of my planned workouts!

As for May goals I'd really like to improve my eating habits.  I wake up every morning and say I'm going to eat better today, I eat well all day and then dinner with the S/O rolls around and I basically end up eating whatever I want...and drinking wine!  So for May I will try to eat better and weight less (I like this goal too) by the end of the month.  I have 2 full months until my first tri and I'm sure my body would greatly appreciate it if I was at least 10 pounds lighter by then (that's possible, right??).  I'd also like to make it a goal not to miss workouts.

I have to mention here that I keep having these re-occurring dreams where I'm competing in a triathlon and it's super easy, I do really well, I love it and I'm barely worn out at the end of it...so WEIRD, especially since I've never done one!!  Anyway, I just thought I would share and see if this is a common occurrence

Hope everyone is doing well!  I may not post super frequently, but I'm always checking in!  I love hearing from everyone.

I'm definitely not a runner either, unless I am late for my train or there is a cupcake at the finish line.  Do you think they would allow that for me at my triathlons?

Absolutely. Before the event begins, place a cupcake next to your bike. Place another cupcake next to your running shoes. Place a third cupcake just beyond the finish line for the run.

You can only eat the 1st one after you finish the swim....
You can only eat the 2nd after biking....
And the 3rd one you won't even reach until you're done running.....

There you go! Three cupcakes!

I suppose you could try to catch a train too - but it might be a little tougher to set that one up so it matches the tri course. LOL

Just checkin in!   I like cupcakes!

I wanna ask a question:  What was the funniest, strangest, wierdest, craziest thing you have ever witnessed during a race or training session?  Not something you have just happened across while living day to day but rather stuff you have seen while you were physically exerting yourself.  And if it is that strange please tell us how you know you wasn't hallucinating.....or leave it a mystery

I know I asked about May goals so here are some of mine:

Cycle: 10 hours minimum for the month - its time to stop slacking off with my cycling (especially if my new bike is only a month or so away) so I should actually be riding a lot more than that - 10 hours is nothing! But... based on the last coupld of months... well... I havent even done that!

Run: 6 hours - the same amount as last month which means a 30 minute run 3 times per week. This includes the 4k run I have in a weeks time

Swim: Swim more... how much more? I still cant work it out... but its swim challenge month so I need to figure out a goal!

Nutrition: Im borrowing Madkats goal of weighing less at the end of the month than at the beginning!

I like that one too!

OK, here are mine:

1 - Work on my running technique. (Avoid injury by improving technique first. Then work on mileage. Last of all, think about pace.)

2 - Get to the pool. (Between the 6 swim teams and 4 water aerobics classes, I can never get a lane, so I tend to just not go.)

3 - Watch eating habits. (Don't overeat at night. Avoid "mindless eating." (This is when I reach into the bag, and wonder how it got to be empty.))

Uh. You're going to notice a common theme here:

1) A guy in the pool.... who was.... Yeah. You know. To himself.

2) A couple in the pool...who were... Yeah. You know. With each other.

3) A couple on a platform floating in a lake.... who were... Yeah. You guess it. And then I realized that the guy was my ex-boyfriend.

Welcome to my world. I wish it was a hallucination! LOL

Did my walkogging tonight. Lots of stuff to think about. The short strides make me even slower than usual. (Which is already like molasses on a GOOD day.) But hey, if it keeps me from getting injured, it's worth it!

And best of all --> my knee does NOT hurt tonight! Yay!!!! (Well, not like it usually does. Just a little twingy. But I can live with that.)

Um. I haven't been wearing them.... When I did, the knee and ankles felt better -- but the OTHER knee and heel started bothering me.

So I'm using the original ones, and working on technique.

D001 - 2009-05-01 10:18 AM Did my walkogging tonight.

WOO HOO!!!

Thats fabulous news Dee!! How are the new shoes?

Um. I haven't been wearing them.... When I did, the knee and ankles felt better -- but the OTHER knee and heel started bothering me. So I'm using the original ones, and working on technique.

Oh...dear....

Thats not exactly what you wanted to happen...

Guess I'm just lopsided. LOL

The knee is starting to tighten up tonight. I kind of expected that though.

I emailed the RD about the disappearing registration for this weekend's 5K. It's supposed to close tonight at 11:59 pm, but instead, it shut down around noon, with a notice saying that registration ended at 6:59 am.

I haven't heard back from the RD yet. I'm thinking that even though I technically got there in time (according to what's been posted all week), but if they closed it, maybe they'll let me pay a late fee.... Or, if it's really closed, maybe they still need volunteers.
