ebshot - 2009-08-10 4:16 AM *yawn*  Morning guys!    Off to run in a few.  Then I shall have the rest of the day to enjoy.  What shall I do??

Up early many days in a row -- what's up with that?

I'm heading out for a run, then leaving for the airport shortly.  I'm going to Baltimore for a few days -- want to join me there?  I was hoping for some cooler weather, but I just looked and they are having a heat advisory.  Looks like I'm just destined to deal with it!

Back into my early morning routine.  It really starts my day off much better to get up before the troops.  I get to check the computer and have coffee in peace.  Of course Cole was up before 5:30 this morning but is fine.

Got my run done early too.  Our humidity is back in full force.  I was dripping sweat after our 3 mile run.  I have to say, running with someone is sooooo much better than running alone.  It went by FAST and was great to catch up.    Doing it again tomorrow!

Cheri, I'd love to meet you in Baltimore!  Too bad I have house crap to do.   It's about a 6ish hour drive so it's not so far.  I guess the heat really like you as it seems to follow you!   Are you going there for work or pleasure?

Editted cause I suck at spelling!

Hey Michelle, I haven't forgotten your Kauai question!  Really, I didn't!   When Bry and I went, we only went for a day so I don't have any accommodation recommendations.  We went on a snorkel cruise on the Na Pali coast.  That is absolutely BEAUTIFUL and not to be missed.  We had a blast!  Then we hit up Wiamea Canyon.  Again, BEAUTIFUL.  I would have loved to kyacked up the rivers and checkd out some waterfalls but we didn't have time.  Tritwinmom lives on Kauai.  Maybe shoot her a pm and see what she recommends??

skrtrnr - 2009-08-09 4:45 PM hello team

today didnt go as well as i hoped it would.

HOT AS HELL.

and i didnt hold up well under the conditions.  though, im happy to report we did NOT have a repeat of the MS150 heatstroke/meltdown.

still waiting on the official results.  (damn chip time....)

1:37ish....

about 6-7-8 mins off my goal time.

nuthin i can do about it now.

decent swim.

unexpectedly slower bike.  what the??  (17mph instead of the expected 17.5-17.8)

and a MISERABLE run (though not as slow it couldve ended up being...)  suffer-fest from beginning to end.  and the trail is supposed to be happy place.

yea. i guess when its not 90+ w 90% humidity

sorry.

im still pretty grumpy about it.

i swear im STILL sweating.    and im tired as all get out.

what does a girl have to do to get a decent time?

i cant work any harder than i already am.  (maybe thats just it....)  OI VEY.

the slowest person in my group of friends that competed today.  i need to get some slower friends.

i kept it together, and finished.....

so im giving myself PROPS for that.

and to be off even that 'little' on day like today, thats something too.  couldve been A LOT slower.

trying to make lemonade.  but....

SO NOT the way i wanted to 'end' the season.

even my friend who ive been training with, was, 'what the heck??'

not sure WHAT the answer is....

SOOOOOOO looking forward to my two week HIATUS.  (ya think i need a break??  LOL)

gonna keep working out, following a SUPER DUPER TAPERED SCHEDULE (which was planned into my goals for this months challenge, no worries there.  i wont let you down, team)

recover, regroup, refocus.

have a 1/2 MARY to start training for starting the end of the month.

IM SORRY FOR THE GRUMP-FEST YESTURDAY TEAMMIES.

i shouldve waited 24 hours before i posted anything, anywhere about my race.

i was HOT, TIRED AND HUNGRY.

what i needed was a cool shower, food, and a good nights sleep not come here and dump.

i have more perspective about the whole thing today.

amazing what 24 hours will do.

you can read my log (if you dare to go back after the all the btchin and moaning i did!!!!)

but, the one thing i realized is that i completed this tri FIVE MINUTES FASTER than the Sprint i did earlier in the season, INSPITE OF THE CONDITIONS YESTURDAY.

with a much longer swim (365 yds longer), a more challenging bike course (are there hills in OH, i think not), and MOST DEFIANTELY a more challening run course. (residential streets in FLAT OH vs a very hilly HOT AS HELL trail run.  nuff said)

oh yeah, and my bike pace average improved by 2 miles+/hour since that race too (same bike, better cyclist)

can we all say INCREMENTAL PROGRESS.

LOTS to be VERY PROUD OF.

back to my usual chipper self.

Hi Stacie - sorry your race was not what you were after - Im sure the missing of your goa time was entirely due to the heat which makes most people slower...

Recover well as your first priority, lots of water drinking and I would suggest rather than a schedule you take some time out and just train what you feel... so if you want to swim... then go and go what feels good...

Consider it your well deserved unstructured break for a few weeks (yup you are right you probably need it!!!)

Take Care!!!

hi CAT.

its OK.  im feelin' much better now bout the whole thing (see msg above and my log)

as for the the next three, that's exactly what i intend to do,  TRAIN WHAT I FEEL.

just do what i feel like doing when i feel like doing it for as long as i feel like doing it.

the only reason i scheduled my 'time off' (as ridiculous as THAT sounds) was so i had some idea what to post for my times for this challenge....

BUT i figured the LEAST AMOUNT OF TIME POSSIBLE when i was posting my goals so that i can still take some DOWN TIME, but still participate in the challenge (sorry team, i wont be racking up the minutes for us this go-round)

that's what worked for me....

so yes.  hydrate.  hydrate.  hydrate.

rest recover regroup reflect

since im in 'down time' mode, we can get into a lot of TROUBLE together.

you can get me totally blitzed on MARGARITAS.  that will cool me down from the TRI FROM HELL IN HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There you go!  That is exactly what you need to do.  Enjoy some down time at HHI with the family.  Take a break from the structured training and then focus on your half when you get back.  Winter is a great time to build a better base for the 2010 season.  You had a fantastic first tri season and I'm sure you will see vast improvements next season!

A GOOD PLAN, INDEED.

as for building base, WHATS THE BEST WAY TO GO ABOUT BUILDING A BASE...

AND ARE THERE PLANS OUT THERE/ON HERE THAT HELP YOU DO THAT?

the only reason im asking this question NOW Erica is because you mentioned it, and youre all here,

im not gonna focus on any of this right now.  just curious is all.  ill file it away....

asked myself.

'self.  what would you like to do today?'

and i answered.

a short swim.

so thats what ill do.

later on.

before my son's baseball game.

a short swim.

perhaps the whole thing WITH FINS. or a PULL BUOY.  MAYBE BOTH.  SWITCH IT UP.

i know.  GASP.

i heart my fins.

hardly use them when im doing the 'T' word.

how long will the swim be, you ask?

dunno.

ill swim until i feel like stopping.  (kinda like Forrest and running)

i have ALL WEEK (including the first two days of vaca) to do 30 mins of swimming.

MY HIATUS FROM TRI TRNG HAS OFFICIALLY BEGUN.

feels weird.

lkc01234 - 2009-08-07 12:45 PM Race is in 2 days...worried I might've tapered too much...heat advisories will be out for Sunday (race day) so will be starting hydrating tomorrow!

your body will know (remember) what to do come race day....tapering is tough.  i get all squirrely and wonder if maybe ive taken too much time off.  BUT, its always proven to be the right thing in the end....

you race day conditions sound identical to mine.

do you have a start time??

mines at 7:30, though my wave doesnt go off until 8:45, i was hoping for an earlier time.

the earlier the better esp when the low for the day is gonna be 67, the high 91+ humidity.

im being mindful of hydrating, as well.

your gonna ROCK, LISA.

HAPPY RACING.
stacieb

7 am is race start, but will pick up packet tonight or tomorrow - which will tell me when my wave starts.  I'm hoping before 9 am!!  ::cross my fingers:: My legs feel all weak - I might go ona  bit of a run or a swim today or tomorrow early...

how was your race???? hoping you had a fun time and that you got off early before the heat.

Hey everyone -- just got back from my afternoon "therapy".  And boy did I get lots of therapy -- started with shopping therapy, added a little movie therapy (Harry Potter!), then finished with dinner and wine therapy. Great afternoon!  But now I need to head to bed... race tomorrow (so why did I drink two glasses of wine with dinner???).

now that sounds like a fun filled day! hope your race went as planned...

looked didnt see the race report....did you do one?

BozNC - 2009-08-08 10:42 AM I did a short mountain bike ride with my wife. Not sure if I'll have time to do anything else today. She's only in town for the weekend and then back to work so we'll probably take the boat out for some family fun. Maybe if I feel good I'll jump in and do an open water swim, or I may just have a beer or two and call it a day. Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

sounds like a very adventuresome weekend...hope you enjoyed your valued time with the wifey.....

Howdy team.  Survived the 2 races and did a report for them if you would to humor yourself   Kept the tires on the ground and that was my goal.

Have a great day and weekend!

haha were you at the same race I was at this weekend? rubber side up seemed to be the theme of the race...got some great action pics...a few with nothing but dust flying...and a bike going in one direction...and the racer in the other....luckily we only had one who needed help out in an ambulance...and he even finished the race before he would let the paramedic touch him....durn keeeeds! (kids)

look forward to reading your report! and way to keep the rubberside down and to not pass yourself!

it is a small race venue area where the racers will do loops...usually held in closed city streets....mini tour de france - instead it is tour da city streets around and around and around - they have bell laps where you get points/or money

Happy Saturday SoSers!  I'm a little late (well, very late...) checking in today.  I had an ok race, and did manage to bring home some hardware -- second in my AG.  The woman who beat me equaled my 5K PR, and she did it in this blasted heat!  So I'm mostly happy with my race today because there is no way I could have run the race she ran.  But there's that competitive spirit that doesn't let me say that I'm completely happy.  I guess it will make me work that much harder next time!

I hope everyone is having a good weekend.

CONGRATS Cheri! way to race in the heat and get hardware! WELL DONE!!! (<--pun not intended! haha)

even my friend who ive been training with, was, 'what the heck??'

not sure WHAT the answer is....

'09-'10 BETTER STRONGER FASTER.

LOTS to be VERY PROUD OF.

back to my usual chipper self.

you better believe there is much to be proud of....remember where you were before you started training for triathlons!? way to look at the cup half full rather then half empty!...and as for this Half Marathon you are going to start training for....we need to start training together when you get back...I need to make sure to follow this plan you guys all sent me...I am bad about doing that...and usually will go run however long I feel that day!?! NOT GOOD! so you need to keep both eyes on me and make sure I do what I need to get to the finish line for my HM...but not til after your vacation! have fun with the family....cuz when you get back...we are going to be some HM training mamas! nice race Stacie...you finished and that is much more then many people can say!!!! nice job!!!

asked myself.

'self.  what would you like to do today?'

and i answered.

a short swim.

so thats what ill do.

later on.

before my son's baseball game.

a short swim.

perhaps the whole thing WITH FINS. or a PULL BUOY.

I too may swim...was going to go run...but today is hot in our area too! I may do a brick (short 1-2 mile run with a swim right after) depends on how hot it is when I get to the pool. Have a nice swim. Enjoy your coming vacation...what is the Tminus time now!?!
