He replies that he's going to one of the other buildings on campus for lunch with two of our classmates if I would like to come now/later in lunch hour...

I turn around after the door shuts and my guy friend is looking at me like--> with a "YOUR AN IDIOT" hand gesture...and "you missed it.."

Oblivious....Yell

Happy Sunday Ghoulies! Quiet day in the Village, I see. I hope everyone's having a good one.

I just thought I should stop by and let you know that I think I've fallen in love. Back story (short version) - I still don't own a bike and I've been doing a lot of shopping around for the last 6 months or so. I'm hoping to be able to go get one when the taxes come back, depending on how my employment prospects look at that time.

Anyway, with my budget I was planning on being able to get a decent aluminum frame with 105-ish components. Yesterday I had to replace my ITB strap so I stopped by the local Trek shop to see if they had one, which they unfortunately did not. However, they DID have a shiny new 2.3 on the floor so I drooled on that for a little bit.

I left the store still needing my ITB strap so I went to the next LBS up the road where I'd purchased my last one. I chatted for a minute with the manager about what I want in a bike and when I told him that I knew my budget wouldn't allow for a carbon bike he walked me over to a few Specialized Tarmac Elites on the floor. They were spec'd out nearly identically to the Trek 2.3 except for the full carbon frame and for only $50 more. Oh, and they had 2 in the back in my size that are still in the box.

So here I am, still bikeless, but with a VERY good idea of the first bike I'm going to test ride. I will be able to file my taxes soon so wish me luck that it works out! If it does I'll actually be able to sign up for a tri this spring/summer (as long as they don't fill up first)!

wgraves7582 - 2010-01-10 1:12 PM So I have a follow up Doctor Appointment with a church Doctor that I know.  A little background:

I got a letter from the sports dr that said Dear Bill, The xray is fine.  So in my mind I want to know it is fine I don't have arthritis and then you said you would want to do an MRI to follow up to see what is going on to cause the pain.  Or is it fine that yes I do have arthritis - and to me that is not a fine xray!

I was a little pizzed to be honest with you!

So I called this guy up after he called about my mom and I asked him some questions about me.  So he is doing a house visit tomorrow night to verify but he is thinking that it is a nerve inflamation and we need to find out what is causing it!

I like that diagnosis a lot better than the other one!

Glad for the news Bill! Nerve inflammations still suck, but it's a lot more treatable than arthritis. I'm pulling for you!

In the world of healthcare, you have to be your own advocate and push when necessary.  Bill, good for you for not just accepting "no more running" at face value.  It may well come to that, but it's worth exploring ALL options.  And while there is overuse of diagnostic tools ie MRI in the US, you should not be expected to accept a diagnosis that results in ceasing a sport you enjoy without further investigation.  Keep pushing.

Ghoulies, hope everyone had a nice weekend.  I got 6 miles in yesterday.  It was 21* but no wind, so actually quite nice.  Today's masters swim was an adventure.  Somehow I missed that it was a 90 minute session.  Clue #1 that I was in trouble.  After introducing myself to the coach and getting into the *slow* lane, he started the workout with a 3x300 warm-up.  WTF??????  I now realize I'm in trouble.  Well, it was a loooong hour and a half.  I struggled but I stayed in the water the entire time and didn't puke, although it was iffy now and again.  The other swimmers were gracious and encouraging (sure, yep, really, I'm certain they want me back.)  The coach was terrific.  He really helped with some body position feedback that made an immediate difference.  Anyhow, I'm hoping to be a regular with this group on Sundays.

Oh wow... what a shock to the system ... glad you didn't puke!      Good for you for toughing it out!

Even better, I'm glad that the group and the coach were so good.  Makes all the difference.

Good morning everyone!

Hope you all had a fantastic weekend.

I only have time to stop by for a minute, I actually have some work to do this morning. I'll go through all the posts a little later this morning when I'm done.

I got 5 miles in on Friday. I got a 10 mile run in yesterday, you can read about it in my log.

Saturday I finally got to go see my new baby niece. She is BEAUTIFUL!!! My kids and I spent most of the day either driving or at my sisters. Yesterday was dedicated to my run, then a lot of napping afterward.

Be back in a bit!

Subject: RE: The Ghoulies Are Running a Half Marathon in January!!!
wgraves7582 - 2010-01-10 3:12 PM So I have a follow up Doctor Appointment with a church Doctor that I know.

I'd be pizzed about that letter too.  Seems a little ambiguous to me.

Glad to hear you're getting another opinion though.  Don't give up on that running yet!
