Swam at 5:15 a.m. Coach Jodi showed me a swim-on-your-side-type drill. Interesting. It helped me when I went back to swimming freestyle with bilateral breathing. So far, hiring a coach has been a good investment.

By the way, I mentioned a long time ago I would tell you about the Spinervals DVD that takes you on the IMLOU bike course. It's pretty good, but it's hard to tell inclines, etc. If I didn't know the course, I don't know if I would find it as beneficial.

Hope everyone is well. I attended a funeral today. Lots of thinking took place. Make the best of every day. Have you every heard that before? ...really? Well, I guess I put it out again.

Peace.

Louisville will be my 1st IM and I need to schedule a couple of races to gear up since I have only completed one tri Racine HIM this year.  I live in Chicago and thought Muncie would be good- HIM July 9th. Is this a good date for an HIM with Louisville at the end of August?  I will also look for some shorter distances prior.

Thanks.

I am planning to do Muncie as well.  Seems like lots of folks are signed (or signing) up for Muncie as a race prep for LOU.  I did two 1/2's during my training for IMFL this past year and was a little worried about one being too close ~ it was 6 weeks out.  It worked out perfectly; however.  I felt really good about working out some final nutrition issues at that point, too.

Very frustrated, went to the YMCA this morning for a 2200 meter swim with my hubby,he bought his first pair of swim jammers and goggles yesterday and was eager to go swimming with me today, as soon as we walked in and they scanned our cards, they informed us that the pool was closed today. I have been there swimming all week, they had signs up everywhere saying they would be closed on New Year's Day, fine, so I planned a bike ride for tomorrow since the YMCA will be closed, but nowhere in the place did they put out the pool would be closed today. Its just.......arg!

I would love to go for a run, but having bad IT band pain since the marathon on the 19th, went for a 7 mile run on Tuesday since I thought I was out of the woods with the IT band issues, but it reminded me of its presence around mile 4, I was able to finish the rest of the run in pain.

Since we are getting freak 72 degree weather tomorrow here in South GA, my best friend and I are planning a long bike ride, maybe I will tack on a few extra miles because of the pool issue today.

Sorry for all this, I just really had to let out the training vent.

Oh, and welcome Lilly from Chicago! I am also planning on doing the Muncie half. My best friend is from Muncie, and her parents and family is like my second family so it will be fun to have all that support. Also really looking forward to meeting some of the people in this wonderful group.

Thanks all!  Sounds like Muncie is the plan.

And yes I definitely need to work on my nutrition.  Way too much sugar during my 1st HIM resulting in a stop at every porta potty during the run.

After sitting on the fence for months, I made the leap today and signed up for IM Louisville 2011.  This will be my first IM distance event.  I have done numerous sprints, 8 half-distance tri's, 7 half marathons and two full marathons in the last seven years.

This should be one interesting journey.  I hope everyone enjoys the ride.

Happy New Year Everyone!!

Any good resolutions out there? Mine is to be happy and to stick to my training plan. This weeks focus is to get the plan details ironed out. I'm going to base it around the competitive 30 week plan in Be Iron Fit. Seems to be fit me pretty well.

As for today the weather is a bit crappy, 45 degrees and rain. The pool is closed and my back is a bit sore (too much skiing). So it looks like a bit of time on the bike trainer is in order.

I hope everyone has a great year and PR's at every event.

Ian- Welcome and congratulations on your entry.

Jillian & All- I have not read it. Have you read, Race Fans: My Genesis and Evolution as a Triathlete, by Samuel F. Wilkinson?

...sorry, couldn't help it.

I did a 1:15:00 ride on the indoor trainer, got off the bike, and started doing crunches. Midway through my crunches I realized I was going to do a 1:30:00 on the bike. I decided...screw it. I had a good ride, I'll take it and like.

Peace,
~Sam

Hey Guys -

This'll be my first IM as well - did two 70.3s last year (Orlando, Providence), but I can already tell that this is gonna be a whole different ballgame!

I'm planning to use the 24-week plan in "Start to Finish Ironman Training" by Paul Huddle & Roch Frey - anybody else ever use this plan?  I keep hearing about "Be Iron Fit" - should I be checking that one out as well/instead?

I've read almost all of the 23 pages of convo leading up until today on this board - can't help but feel like a lurker, so it was time to post and get in the mix!

Welcome.

This is my frst IM after one half last year.  I am following the 36 week plan from trifuel.  I wasn't doing much and needed a longer plan to get going.  I may switch to another plan later such as "Be Iron Fit" after the reviews.
