Here is from our news channel "Fast moving storms bring the threat of tornadoes to Western North Carolina.  From lightning, to gusty winds and heavy downpours, some areas were hit harder than others.

Most of the warnings and watches have been cancelled.  Areas including Rutherford, Burke and Lincoln Counties reported the most damage."

However, we are still in a warning.. (Rutherford county-Gotta love that name.)

Grab the wine and head to the basement!

EEEWWW, I would have to actually see one. Our basement is dirt, with 200+ year old beams and I am sure ghosts and banshees. The wine is a good idea, though

In that case, just grab the wine and enjoy the hammock.

Not a bad idea. I have the house open. It is in the mid 70s today. Tomorrow, it will be cold.

ceilidh - 2010-10-27 11:27 AM It is rare to get tornados in the mountains. If we do it is AMAZING the damage.

They bounce around like they are ping pong balls.

I can imagine.

Does anyone here watch Stormchasers on the Discovery channel? I've seen it a few times. I think those guys trying to drive into tornadoes are nuts!

I have watched it. I think they are beyond stoopid. I have been in hurricanes and tornados and they are NOT to be messed with. Ma Nature is NOT kidding!

I agree with you!

My son and I watched Mythbusters where they tested the 2 vehicles in tornado strength wind. My 10 year old was coming up with flaws in their testing.

The one team I think does it for money making videos first, and science second. I believe the other vehicle is solely out there for iMax film shooting. There isn't enough money in the world for me to do that.

I can see my son doing that - he loves watching that show and is infatuated with Tornadoes!

My son is weather paranoid. He does like to watch the show though. I have the DVR setup to record the shows. He likes the science of it, but thinks they are insane.

It was maybe 13 or 14 years ago we were hit by a small F1 tornado. It was before we were married, but we were dating, I was away at school. My SIL and her son were home across the road, and my inlaws were home.

I think something like 7 trees were destroyed, a concrete block shed was tipped over, and the rounded barn full of almost 2,000 bales of hay was picked up and spun and dropped back to where it came from. A shed roof was picked up at my inlaws and lifted over the barn and dropped on their house. My inlaws had to crawl out a window to get out of the house. They said by the time they heard it they only had time to hit the floor, no time to get to the basement. My SIl and her son went to the basement and said they weren't coming out until someone came to get them and told them it was safe.

My husband was living in a trailer on the property at the time. It sucked all but 2 windows out of the trailer and drove a 2x4 through a wall. It took the roof off of the porch, but didn't touch the little grill I had sitting on the porch.

You could see the path it took through the cornfield. We found metal from the barn over a mile away hanging in trees. My husband was halfway home and remembered he needed cat food. He turned around and went back in town. If he wouldn't have done that he'd have been there when it hit.

He had always told me the barn would be the safest place to be, turns out it wasn't.
