Whew....solid week of training. AZ won't know what hit it!    15 mile run today with my wife (after an hour on the bike) at an "easy" pace that I think is completely doable on race day.  If all goes to plan, I should be able to shave 45 minutes off my CdA run time.

Week totals:

Swim: 7000 yards

Bike: 190 miles

Run: 51.5 miles

Total of 20 hours.

That is a very impressive week of training!

Water temp question.

Has anyone felt the need to wear a neoprene swim cap?  I have one and wore it during Escape from Alcatraz, but it really chewed up the back of my neck, even with body glide AND I'm not even sure I needed it?

I would rather not wear it unless it's highly suggested.

After freezing and shivering my way through the IM AZ 2009 swim (despite training mostly in the 50-something degree waters of Santa Cruz), I was tempted to wear a squid lid this year. However I think I've decided to just double-cap it and that will still provide a bit more warmth. Oh and, you know, swim faster this time

I wasn't planning to wear a squid lid either, but I also do all my OWS in SF Bay with just a normal swim cap, so I think I'm used to the cold. Most of my swims in the bay haven't been more than an hour yet so I am a bit concerned with getting cold with a longer swim since I'm probably going to be around 1:20-1:30. Might end up doubling up caps.

I did CdA this year in about 55 degree water and other than the initial shock, I was perfectly fine with just the issued cap.

That is a very impressive week of training!

Thanks!   Feeling really strong right now, and considering I'm up a good %25 from my training at the same point out from CdA, I have a feeling I should be able to hit my high end goals.

Got some good rides/runs in on the weekend (75mls on SAT and 120 on SUN) and found out that I definitely need more nutrition on my long rides - had 2 Powerbars, a Red Bull, 2 Gels and 1 gl water. Bonked after Sunday's ride (120 mls).

Talking about nutrition: Does anybody know what kind of bottles they are handing out during the bike leg? As I'm using my race bike with normal cages I'm wondering if the bottles will fit onto the cage or if I have to transfer it into my bottles at every stop?

This is good news about the water. I wasn't worried at all about the water temp until I did some reading on it and now I'm all freaked out. Sounds like 60 will be cold, but nothing to freak out about? haha...geez...of all the things I could be worried about...

I have been worried about the water temps as I get cold very easily. I bit the bullet and purchased a neoprene swim cap just in case.  After seeing how some of the people looked coming out of the water last year, I figured it would be worth it even if I don't end up using it.

They are regular sport top bottles....they fit in cages just fine.

I'm a little concerned about the water temps as well. I know when I jump in it will take my breath away, but a short swim to the Mill Ave bridge should get me used to it. After 500m I hope my body is ok. My real concern is after the swim. I plan on wearing my tri shorts/top under my wetsuit do I don't have to change but I wonder what the first 20 miles on the bike will feel like. I hate being cold when I ride!

I know that it will cause more time, but I plan on changing into some bona-fide bike shorts (the kind with the extra think padding) for the ride.  With the ride being almost all in the aero position with little saddle breaks on hills, I am trying to abate any soreness during the ride.  I am also not in a position where an additional 2 minutes is going to cost me a Kona slot - so I would rather being comfortable come mile 90 than praying to get off the saddle.

Also, I want to be able too hit T2 with a little pep in my step and not shaking off the saddle soreness.

LazyMarathoner - 2010-12-06 10:27 AM I'm so bummed to hear the hotels are over a mile from the start/finish! I've been so spoiled with IMWI and IMLP where I was just a couple blocks away. I am also leaning toward condo but figured I'd see what hotel options were available. For those who scored host hotel rooms, how much were they.. just curious?

Hey Kristin, I'm not at the host but about 2 blocks away at the Marriott, Residence Inn on Ash. I stayed at the Comfort Inn on 52nd when I volunteered this year and it was super easy to get to and from there (about a 5-7 minute drive to race start), and they had a shuttle taking over athletes starting at 4am race morning and bringing them back. The rate was $99.00 per night.

do you happen to have the exact address to the residence Inn...im trying to find places for 2012
