45 minutes on the trainer

Was supposed to do 60 but Kel whacked me in the eye with a towel, so I had to cut it short.

Yup, CT is getting slammed right now.  10-20 inches.  Looks like easily 12 inches as of right now, already on the ground, and it's not stopping until late afternoon.  This SUCKS!!

carrie639 - 2011-01-11 12:38 PM If the doctor says PT and it is covered by insurance, do it, just be wary of how many appts you use (if there is an annual limit) just in case you need any later.

I have been in therapy for my IT band for the last 3 or so weeks and I am finally up to 1 hr of running, it has helped, if nothing else to show me how to strengthen muscles and what to strengthen.  As you can see from my training, I have pretty much kept everything else up though.

PT for muscles strains and sprains can be quite effective.  They will also give you home exercises to do.  Try going two or three times a week for 2 weeks and then do once a week with home exercises.  Explain to the doc and therapist what you want to do and see what they recommend.  This will keep you visits down, just in case.

45 minutes shoveling snow - no a.m. workout for me.  Just 12" here and it has pretty much slowed or stopped.

I expect a long and hectic day at work followed by a 1200 yard swim and an run on the 'mill at the gym.  I've got to stick as close to my plan as possible - vacation next week. (and I really want to do well in my May marathon.)

It was below freezing today so I jumped on the dreadmill.  I know, I know CT people that the 20s isn't that bad but this Houston, Texas and I'm used to 70 degree winters.  8 miles and then a good weight workout.  Need a nap now.

Snow day today but still need to work from home.  I have a :40 run and a 2:00 trainer ride.

Gym is closed so I think I'm going to go stomping through the snow once it (hopefully) gets a little nicer this afternoon.

Going through everyone's blogs today I noticed lots of you are on really nice streaks of pink boxes -- made me think of a pretty good USAT article on the importance of consistency:

Yeah, up to two feet of snow now.  Took the kids out, shoveled for an hour.  That's some heavy snow.

Thankfully I can also work from home today, between entertaining kids of course.

We have a foot of snow on the ground right now, too.  More coming....

I think the doctor made a mistake diagnosing me with a groin pull.  My groin doesn't hurt at all anymore.  After some searching, I came upon some articles on piriformis syndrome.  It really made sense & clicked.  The pain in my butt/thigh/labia was sciatica (I am very prone to this....was on bedrest with one pregnancy because it was so bad).  Anyone know anything about piriformis syndrome?

I spent some time on the bike.  Didn't go too hard or anything.  I actually feel better after having biked for a while!  Perhaps it loosened up the muscles or something.

Going to look for a therapist in my area.  It wouldn't hurt.  Plus, I have chronically tight calf muscles, and this person could probably help me with that problem, too.

Here's a good thread on piriformis and I agree with the posters that a theraphy ball is the way to go.

update on my ski week-It was whiteout blizzard conditions on Sunday so I went x-country skiing for 45 minute. Snowing and blowing so bad I had to give up. Monday it was 10 below on the mountain and our skis would not run. left the mt and went for new wax. Top of the mt was in an ice cloud and skis still hardly ran. Tuesday began at 20 below and got up to 10 below and we bagged it. Today-started at zero on the mountain and became a heat wave at 20. Glorious skiing today except my knee was screaming by end of the day. Funny-I am missing my tri training thoough. Enjoy keeping up on all your posts-

I guess out two feet of snow does not comapre to 20 below temps.  You can have that, I'll take the snow.

Depends on what you have on your schedule tomorrow.  If you have a key workout tomorrow, take the rest day.

If you want to do something today, start it and go for 10 minutes.  If, after 10 minutes, you're not feelin' the groove, stop, but at least you made an attempt.

I enjoyed reading the article on consistency.  This is the longest streak I've had of pink in a while.  Since starting the training for Hyannis, I was choosing rest as an option when rest was a choice over engaging in recovery type biking or swimming.  I have changed that streak, at least temporarily.  I am feeling good about my training, and I'm looking to seeing what we can do at Hyannis.

It's been really enjoyable to have a Sunday morning running crew as well.  Running with others has really helped my training!

This snow sucks!  I couldn't get to the Southington Y today, so I'll need to get my swim in at some other point this week.

Anything fun on tap today?  I'm looking at running some hills this morning (hoping the roads are plowed well) and then hitting the pool this afternoon.

Ride and run already in this morning.  Does working from home with a sick kid count as fun?

Tons of fun.

I think Shaun is super happy that I'm back in the office today -- he's not a fan of when I work from home.

Running question:

Is it unreasonable to think about doing a half marathon late this year for me?

I can run 4 miles pretty much any time I go out for a run and have done 5 miles once. Prior to last year, I've never done more than about 3-3.5 miles in my life.

Entirely reasonable.  I'd never done more than a 5k until August and I'm doing a half mary in about a month.  I say figure out/find a training plan and stick to it.  I found that once I got myself past 6 miles it got much easier up to about 10.  10-13 has been difficult.

Max & Ruby and Dinosaur Train in our house today

How old are your children?

I biked 70 minutes and ran 1 slow mile.  I'm going to slowly build up my miles again.
