Also, I wanted to thank everyone for their help and suggestions and just their posts in this thread - it really helps to realize that we are all struggling with something and getting through it.

Also, a special thanks to Melissa who is doing a great job as a mentor. I really appreciate the fact that you make such an effort to respond to everyone when they post, and the messages on the logs are really helpful as well.

Great job!

No swim tomorrow. Parent-teacher conferences at the preschool, so my little guy is out. I *may* see if he wants to go to childcare at the Y while I swim, but he generally hates that, so I'd be surprised if he says yes. I think I'll have everything ready just in case, but not count on it. Definitely need to get on the bike this weekend, and maybe run? My heel is still hurting but not as bad.

Harlequinduck - I took your advice to heart as well. At the end of the session, I did a couple of lengths just doing the elementary backstroke, feeling the buoyancy, and enjoying the relaxing. Definitely helped me not hate the water. I need to remember that I can always turn over and float during the tri if I need to. For some reason, I tend to forget that as an option.

Interesting. I hate being 'upside down' in the water. So backstroke (elementary or otherwise) isn't relaxing for me.

Glad to hear that you had a good workout today!

Take it easy and run at a pace that you can chat with your husband. Have fun! Running outside is much more fun than the treadmill.

My first brick today. Ever. I'm pretty sure that I didn't do one before the last tri (since I pretty much didn't do anything )

15 minutes on the bike. Bike shorts with extra padding helped. Hurt at the start but by the 15 minute mark was starting to feel better. Got off because I wanted to get the run in and we have a hellacious weekend for busy. Anyways, cadence around 75. Not great, but it should only get better.

35 minute walk/run. 2 miles. Walk 17, run 3, walk 9, run 3. Felt pretty good - heel hurting when I walk but was better while running. Need to take some ibuprofen to calm things down for the rest of the day though.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. Busy busy busy here. Valentine's parties and birthday parties to get ready for, painting the little guy's bedroom, book report mobile, etc.

Yay! That's awesome!! And I'm right there with you...did my first ever yesterday. Bike for 20 minutes, walk for 10, run for 15, walk for 5, then stretch. This was my first time on a bike since Sept. and like you, I kind of faltered about midway. I had told myself initially it was for minimum of 10 minutes then I could quit, but I ended up going ahead and finishing the 20.

I also seem to have less heel pain than I expected when running. In my case, I think I may put more heel strike pressure in my walk than in my run - it's more fore/midfoot based. ??

Have fun with your busy weekend!!

Great job! That's your longest run, yes? I keep thinking I should watch the chi running video that Brian has, but haven't done it yet.

Beautiful day in Fairbanks as well-- To view from a window.... Forty below. At these temperatures and angle of the sun this time of year we get what is referred to as a Sun Dog (color spectrum around the sun like a rainbow). Todays was the most vivid I've seen. It was great to see on the way to a great workout, inside--In the pool. I'm glad to hear of great days and successful training.

Good job Kerry and Karla on the first brick!

Today looks like spring here! I checked the weather network and it's supposed to get colder again so to enjoy it while it lasts I moved tomorrow's run to today!

I googled pictures of sun dog's because I have never seen or heard of it. Very pretty!

Don't use wash out hair dye if you're a triathlete (or swimmer).

I looked like someone dumped cherry koolaid on me.

I learned that lesson! When I lived in Ohio, I was doing bootcamp classes at the Y (with some really cute firefighters) and had gotten a semi-permanent red rinse. It looked like I was bleeding down my back by the time class was finished.

How long does the flu last? 'Cause I still feel 'not-so-good.' *sigh*

I'd like to do a light workout, but I'm hacking like a three-pack-a-day smoker. Plus, I'm exhausted just getting through the regular work-day.

Bleh.

And yes, I did get a flu shot! *sigh again*

Oh well. This too shall pass.

Just relax and wait. Pushing through phlemy lungs will only make you worse. Sorry for the news! On the flip side your tri mentor just told you to play video games and watch tv for the next week or so.

Ooooo. Video games and TV. My body AND brain are about to turn into oatmeal. Cool. LOL

I got home from work and took a nap. Ate dinner, and you guessed it -- I'm ready for another nap.

I got my sugar fix today by consuming about 3000 cough drops, too.
