Hi, All...

Sounds like some of you had some great training. Mine has improved this week, I guess that's all I can ask for!

Tim, I had great results with this plan----> http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0801/is_6_69/ai_n25469931/

I was 8 weeks out when I started and did each week twice...except for the taper, I did the week before it 3 times and the taper once. I improved my time drastically (like 14 minutes) from the previous year and it helped me to be more specific. I was previously just going out for a run, bike swim of the same speed/distance. Maybe this will help you. I plan on using it again. I put it all on a calendar and crossed off each workout as i did it. Sometimes weather or my schedule had me changing the order, but I usually got all the workouts for the week in.

I'm struggling with a couple of things. A sore hip (had the same thing last year and saw a Dr. who said not to run more that 8 miles a week if I HAD to) and cramps in my feet mostly when I am swimming. I have no bike issues because I have yet to get my bike out! The weather has been FOUL and the trainer is packed in the moving POD-a long drawn out story...good, happy, fast closing thoughts please!!

I'll be sure to check in more frequently!

I can't seem to figure out how to add you all to my "dashboard" ? Good week, Everyone!

Laura

After the big ride yesterday, decided to take on a nice easy run.  Result was 3.4 miles in 30:54 (10:22, 4:39, 4:41, 11:10) / 9:05 pace.  Slowed up a bit at the end as I kept the effort constant and it required backing it down just a bit.  Happy with 9 minutes as my recovery runs given where I was at a year ago.

Big news today was with the shin splints.  I've been fighting some pain on the right leg on the knobby bone just below the knee.  Today there was no, nada, zip, nothing in the pain area!!!!  Only thing that I can figure is that the ride yesterday broke some muscles loose and/or helped with the circulation.  I'll be on cloud nine if the pain is gone as it'll make for more enjoyable running.

Laura, I go to "settings" then blog (log?) customization and then dashboard and typed everyone in there.  Let me know if you need more specifics. Smile

Although training was disrupted by my hospital appointment last week i still managed to get a couple of key sessions in. In preperation for this sundays sprint tri i swam some 400m repeats. when i did my 1st sprint tri last september my swim time just over 12 minutes.I this session i got it down to 9.01. So very pleased with this. Then on sunday i managed to get out for my longest bike ride to date. Was out 30 mile again pleased with this although still along way to go.

Mike - good work on the swim workout

Tim - hope you can get your training back on line

Laura - hope the aches and pains sort themselves out

Croix - I'm not teasing or anything but how do the 4:xx mm a) constitute an easy workout when the rest is 10 - 11:xx and b) come to a 9:05 average? - I;m basically just curious

SB - good work on the swim time coming down and the bike ride.

I'm still resting due to leg issues and a cold but I'll try to get out there tomorrow.

You're giving me hope Sterling -- going from 12 minutes to 9 minutes for 400m is awesome!  Good luck on Sunday.

Sorry Suzi, the splits are at reference points for me and not equal and/or mile increments.  I keep track of them for my reference.  I can only dream of a sub 5 minute mile!

Suzi - Curt is actually an Olympic sprinter, but doesn't want to make us feel bad, so he throws in the occasional 9 min mile time

Biked & ran this AM. A 40 minute struggle on the bike - I think Sunday took more out of me than I thought, plus I'm thinking I didn't do well w/ post ride recovery/nutrition. I needed to drink more on the ride & post ride.

My run this AM was nearly 2 miles, and at a painless 9:15 pace. I'm going to stick w/ the 2 mile distance for the next week and see how the foot reacts. If its OK, I'll start moving the distance up slowly. Stamina wise, I could have kept going.

First race is in 2 months (June 26th - sprint) and I'm thinking I'll be really ready for it.

So, everyone has been doing some sort of training with some races sprinkled here and there, but now we're going to have more people in the group having TRIATHLONS coming up!

What questions are there about preparing for racing?

The regional season opener around here is only 2 weeks away, but some genius scheduled it for the morning of Mothers Day. So, needless to say, I won't be there. Can't imagine that would go over well w/ the Mrs. & the kids.....

Thanks for clarifying. I worked out the time and it was pretty much what you said for the total but I couldn't work out how it averaged. I thought you may have done a typo and done 4 instead of 9 or something but then that wouldn't have worked for the total, lol.

Oh and don't worry about the dream you'll get there one day -even if it's just in the guise of speedwork

Sara - I don't really have an immune system thanks to the drugs I'm on for the transplant but I'm sure what I have will do it;s job soon. As for the injury I'm thinking it's partially my own fault as I don't tend to sit very sensibly most of the time - ie crossed legs, sitting on ankles, etc. I know I'll be doing the race though - I've already paid for it and am going with BFF and her family so I have to do it, lol

Hey all, hope all is well with everyone--keeping training going as much as healthfully possible, etc...

My shoulder is still in a great deal of pain, my coach was watching my swimming last night, and she thinks my hand position when my arm enters the water is to blame, but either way, I am going to take a break from swimming til Saturday to see if that helps. we did a brick last night, biking to the park (and around it) then running then around the park then running, then biking back to the gym for a swim session...my legs actually weren't hurting after the run! YAY!

Overslept this morning, so I didn't get to bike to school --guess I'll make it up tonight.

We have an indoor tri around here on Mother's Day, too.  I guess race directors assume mothers are okay with breakfast in bed at 4am then heading off for the race!

Believe it or not, ice baths are my best friend when the legs are screaming.  But, I don't put ice in it.  I fill the tub up with only cold water.   Then I turn the shower on and sit in the cold water so the warm shower water keeps me from freezing.  By the time the tub water warms up, I've been in the water long enough to draw out some inflammation/soreness.

Hello everyone.  I have been busy with life stuff and have taken a few days off.  I am waiting really for May 1st for the last of my registration lotteries on a race I want to run.  I am 0 for every lottery race I have put in for though .  I will know then if I am marathon training for an "A" Race or triathlon training for an "A" Race.

Sara - I am still on track to hit all my 2011 goals, I just haven't decided the path yet.

Mike - ok, maybe my info was wrong. Mum's day is May 8 here as well. That's also when my race is - it's called the mother's day classic and raisese money for breast cancer research and stuff

Sara - unfortunately I don't have the option of doing the shower and bath thing - ours are separate. It does seem better after the lukewarm deep bath (filled the water almost to the top) that I had today. I'm going to give it 1 more day though. I have found that if it's muscles that really hot water works though. It's one of the reasons I like the place I currently swim - they have a hydro pool. It's one of the things I learnt from my job at a school specifically for kids with physical disabilities, most of whom had cerebral palsy

Kate - hope you work out the sholder issues, I had one added to me today but it's mostly to do with how I'm sleeping so I should be able to work it out

Cbarnes - Good luck with the lottery.
