The iamtri website says there were 65 riders last weekend.  I would have guessed there were more than that, but they would know.  I feel A LOT better about the bike course having ridden it now because my bike route has an elevation difference of like 50 feet...OK, maybe more than that, but it's basically flat.

Traffic got a bit thick as we headed back into Louisville around 1:00 p.m.  Not much other than that.

I have not heard of that race. I'll have to check it out and see about it. Running is my strongest of the 3 sports, so that might be a good time for sure.

WAKE UP!!!!   I had a disheartening swim at a half Iron distance race last week-end and was feeling a little uneasy about Louisville that is only 80 days away now.  Yesterday I swam 3700 meters at the lake (@2.3miles) 1hr 29 mins. This renewed my confidence. Anyone else out there a little on the UN confident side?  1st Ironman for me.

It's my first IM too. I'm not worried about the swim since swimming is my background but I have found myself uneasy about the bike. I haven't gotten to my first century yet. I know I'll get it done.....but I certainly understand the feeling.

jrj0924 - 2012-05-30 8:50 AM Thanks for the info on the bike course!  I have been toying with the idea of driving the 9 hours for a training weekend.  While I train on hills it would still be nice to see what I am in for on race day.  How many people would you say were on the course riding?  I didn't realize traffic would be dicey but if I went I would probably go with others from the area so I wouldn't ride alone.

I drove 12 hours each way last year for one of these rides - it was the one 3 weeks before the race. I'd guess 100+ riders, they started us in waves.

They provide kayak lifeguards for the practice swim (~1 hour) and 7 or 8 FULLY STOCKED aid stations on the bike course. I'm talking both Gatorade and Perform, ice, water, granola bars, fruit, bagels, clif bars, trail mix, candy... even full tables of medical stuff like sanitizer, wet wipes, first aid, body glide, butt'r, vasaline, you name it.

And they only ask $15 donation. It's incredible - I highly recommend!

This will be my 2nd IM, completed IMLV in 2010. I had the same thoughts in 2010 and I have the same thoughts this time around. For us average tri athletes I think these thoughts are normal, they have to be, it's a huge task we have ahead of us. Stick to your plan, do the workouts and you will achieve your goals. Just remember to have a Plan B, because Plan A won't happen.

May Totals: S: 28,900 yds, B: 504 mi, R: 85.08 mi

You will do this!

My May totals:

Swim:   0

Bike: 650 miles

Run: 167 miles

Ran with my wife to her BQ time of 3:31 on sunday at the San Diego Rock n Roll Marathon on Sunday.   Now that that race is over with, I'll get back in the pool.  Both bike and run mileage should increase a bit this month as well.  Feeling pretty strong and cant wait to race!

11 weeks to go, people.  How is everyone doing on training? Anyone doing any long ride soon? I have the Jackson County Brevet century this Saturday. Next month I have the Peachtree Road Race here in Atlanta (10k race) and the AS400 Century ride where they completely close down part of the highwas so we can ride on it for a mile or two at the beginning.  This ride, along with the heat, kicked my butt last year but it was a lot of fun.  August can not get here fast enough!

I too will be doing the Jackson County Brevet this Saturday, not doing the full century.  I will be doing the Covington Century that first weekend in August.  This ride is a great one to prepare for the heat.  Not quite ready for August to be here yet, give me a few more weeks.

I realize there is no one right answer...but wondering what you guys do for swim/bike transition for IMKY...do you wear tri shorts for swim and keep them on for bike?  Or do you change into fully padded bike shorts for the 112 miles?  Other options?

I pulled a pair of cycling shorts over top of my tri shorts in my two previous attempts and it worked out fine for me. Plenty of people will change out of their tri shorts and put cycling shorts on ...

I wore the same tri top and tri bottoms for the entire distance last year at IM Louisville.  I plan to do the same this year.  I trained in this attire, so I was confident that this plan would work for me.

My n=1 experience:

I had never run over 14 miles in my life before race morning at Louisville last year.  As you can imagine, there was lots of walking on the run.  It may not be the best case scenario, but it can be done.

I'm spending alot of time on my computrainer as my summer schedule only has an hour block splattered in here and there.  I love riding the Louisville course as it is always changing,vs Cozumel and Florida my previous full distance triathlons.

I'm getting very excited for August to get here!

krazytallchick - Cool.  Maybe I'll see you there at the beginning of the ride.  I'm bib #843. Weatherwise, it looks like it will be a great day for riding.  Have you done that Covington race before? If so, how is it?  I got a flier for it in the packet for the Brevet ride. The timing of it would be great for leading up to Louisville.

I plan on doing the swim in a pair of regular swimming trunks and then changing into my cycling shorts which is what I did last year.  Works for me.

Is anyone besides me planning on doing this race on a regular road bike or are you all going to be on a tri-bike?
