I either have to cross my fingers that they pick my name OR run sub 3:23 at my next marathon. Murphy's Law of Marathoning says both will happen, especially since you'd have to pay/register to defer a lottery entry to the year after, by which time you'll be pfffffting at the qualifying time. |

Monday's are usually rest days for me. I generally take Emma out for a three mile walk before work and that's what I did today. Back in the office today (despite the fact that all other state and federal agencies appear to be closed for bowl game Monday). One more month of marathon training before taper ;-) Emma Curious, in your plan, is this also your peak month in terms of volume and/or longest runs? |

Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: Yanti & Lynn: Manatee Madness Mentor Group CLOSED wushunut - 2012-01-02 10:29 PM I'm going to take a break from running today after my knee pain on Saturday. I'll probably go for a swim today if I get a chance. It's a day off from work for my wife and I so we're going to be focusing on family time today, especially since our 3 month old starts daycare tomorrow with his big sister! I keep learning more and more from you ... if pain, TAKE A BREAK ... Seriously my sticking point, I need all the Manatees' help and flipper thwacks on this ... I ignore pain, and illness doesn't register until I'm nearly comatose. Unless I literally cannot move, I don't think I'm injured or sick. I've gotten a ton better (I've had to, what with 11 bouts of serious illness or injury in the last 18 months) but I've got a long way to go. |

It's all in the region... We're slowly building a name for ourselves but between Carolina and USC being taken we haven't gotten the right name yet... Wear the hat with pride today we should do well. I'm actually still using the full marathon plan still since I switched to the HM about 2 weeks ago and have just shortened the longer runs and some of the midweek runs, I'm not good at changing mid stream when it comes to workout plans |

Extreme Veteran 603 Glasgow, UK | Subject: RE: Yanti & Lynn: Manatee Madness Mentor Group CLOSED Hi all, I went for a hill run (Hogmanay Handicap organised by the Tri Club) it was quite a daunting prospect as the slowest were going off first (i.e. me) with the others being released as the time progressed. The people who'd done it before were talking of lost of hills but I really didn't think it was too bad, I think I was the slowest but I also didn't care about that either. It was just nice to know that I can now run up and down hills without feeling like it's a near death experience. I also managed day 2 of '31 days of core work' as I'm determined to keep up the core work everyday in Jan. Hope you're all well. I'm still off work tomorrow but will be doing some work so it's not such a trauma on Wednesday - I also need to travel again tomorrow for work so will be trying to keep it up while away! |

I think running hills is extremely important. It is obviously a great and challenging physical workout but there is a whole mental aspect, too. Runners are scared of hills. If you can fearlessly attack a hill, you have something in your back pocket that most don't. Keep at it. |

Compiled a grocery list and will go grocery shopping later today. Working on cleaning up my diet and dropping some weight. New Years Eve 2012 - 3.5 mile run/New Years Day 2012 - 3.5 mile run/Monday 01/02/12 - 1.5 hour lap swim at the Y. I have two equipment questions for everyone. 1 - A fellow runner gave me her hand me down Garmin 405 with heart monitor strap but it didn't come with ? that will allow me to connect it to my computer. Where can I purchase this gadget for a reasonable price? 2 - Looking to the future. What do all of you wear under your wetsuits or during the swim portion of a TRI? I currently swim in a swim suit but I can't imagine wearing it throughout a TRI... In WA water temperatures stay pretty cold year round, I will be wearing a wetsuit for the swim portion.

Hi Pug Princess! 1. Check this out--I'm sure you can get similar deals cheaply. http://sewelldirect.com/Garmin-Forerunner-405-USB-20-Data-Sync-Cable-6-ft.asp 2. I wear whatever I will be wearing for the rest of the tri, which is a tri-specific top and tri-shorts (like bike shorts, but thinner, quick-dry padding). The water temp at Oceanside 70.3 the year I did it was 58, I think. I threw a light windbreaker over my tri top for the bike and was fine, even though damp. There are a lot of places online you can get fantastic deals on tri-specific gear, especially at this time of year. Ask if you are interested! Edited by TriAya 2012-01-02 12:31 PM |

Extreme Veteran 603 Glasgow, UK | Subject: RE: Yanti & Lynn: Manatee Madness Mentor Group CLOSED Ahh things to wear under a wetsuit ... this was something I agonised about. I think it all depends on your body type and body confidence. I'm tall and have been overweight for years and there's still no way I'd run in a swim suit. For me that left either a two piece or a tri-suit. I picked the latter as the former always leave a gap around my midriff which I'd rather not have. I picked one up from Beginnertri and have also got a second hand one from a girl in my club, I love them. I used to wear them with a T shirt to hide unmentionables (flab) but may not this year depending on how I feel about my body when I race. I have to wear a bra under the trisuit for additional support but I've done this all along and don't notice it until I finish (it tends to hold water so gets cold pretty quickly when I stop). Hope that helps, Kate |

I realize that it's not a fashion show but you do have to feel decent about yourself or you'll never get to the start line. |
