Started out last week well, pool was closed but got some training in. My Brother and his family were up this weekend but it wasnt untill tonight I found myself doing anything. Nutrition: FAIL Water: okay. My little training distraction Zoe is doing a water challenge of her own, trying to drink it out of a sippy. She seems to prefer us to do all the work when it comes to liquid consumption. I hope to get 3 miles outside tomorrow and a swim before the weekend. If I can pull that much out, il be happy for now. Time to get organised, DC will be here before I know it.
Erin, The book arrived last week. Thank You so much! I really appreciate it. Hope everyone is Healthy and Moving, Kim Kim ...good to see you are still at it. Life has a way of getting in the way of training. Hope you can get your run and swim in this weekend
Thanks Marianne, The run is done!
How much time does everyone devote to stretching before and/or after a run? I tend to half a$$ some quick stretches after a run cause Im in a rush. Now Im noticing my hips are angry with me. curious what everyones routine was. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() kim, i usually warm up before a run by walking briskly for about 3-5 minutes. i'm pretty bad about stretching. i might stretch out my calves a little if i have time before a race, that's pretty much it
erica, good job on squeezing in a trainer ride!! i'm heading to nyc this weekend to visit my sister and go to a bachelorette dinner/party (ugh!). it's sad that the part of the weekend i'm most looking forward to is sitting at the airport terminal by myself and catching up on reading! i'm such a loser!! hope everyone has a great weekend!! |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I ran today! I think the plague is finally over; I've been sick most of the time since the Foxboro race We are running on estrogen lately, huh? what happened to the guys?
@Kristen - sitting in an airport w/o children sounds WONDERFUL! enjoy every bit of it!! |

![]() | ![]() Happy Weekend to all!!!! Kim, I strongly suggest getting a foam roller. I find it helps before and after a run. Its probably one of the best investments I have made since I started racing. You can watch videos on You Tube of foam rolling IT band to see just some of the exercises. I roll on it almost everyday and it can easily be done in front of the TV!!!! Others around you may not appreciate your moans and groans while you do it!!!! Erin, So glad you are better. DONT push it this week trying to make up for the time you were sick...there is nothing to be gained from that. You will be fine. I think you will be surprised how well you can run. I had to take 6 weeks off from training once due to an injury and did my fastest bike ever on pretty much no training. You are fit...dont worry Kristen enjoy your alone airport time Erica...hope you have a great spring break. Looks like temps are on your side. Not long before you will be a college graduate. Then it will be time to do another HIM!!!LOL |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I got another short trainer ride done today. It thought Liam had baseball tryouts this morning but it turns out it isn't until this afternoon. So, I jumped on the trainer. I think I am going to take my bike outside on Monday. The weather man says it will be amazingly warm to Monday afternoon I hope to be outside. |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hello everybody! I am back from my long trip driving the hikers to Georgia and then on to Palm Beach. Dropped off my husband's car for him down there on Thursday (he's taking care of his sick mom, she's 93) and then I promptly got sick and haven't been right since. Didn't even get to the beach. Have wicked bad vertigo and was vomiting; it's subsided some but my head still doesn't feel right at all. Kinda seems like that illness people get on a cruise, without the cruise part. Yuck. May have to see the doctor tomorrow if the dizziness doesn't go away. So, the short answer is I haven't done anything but drive for a week and feel lucky I felt well enough to fly home early this morning. So, hoping tomorrow to start over (again.) Just keep swimming, just keep swimming..... Hope y'all are doing a better job with the training than I am right now :-) |

![]() | ![]() Oh Nancy...feel better soon! I think everyone has had something recently!!! ICK...hopefully we can open the windows soon. I ran 12+ this am on a hilly course. Did fine. After I ran I went home and promptly stood in the pond behind my house up to almost my waist for almost 15 minutes.I wont lie...it was quite painful. Similar to an ice bath. This is supposed to help with recovery. Hopefully it works quickly as I am off to work!!!!! One more week til Quincy...Whose in??? Erin, Kristin, Kim, me....Joel I know you are lurking...Lauren???? Lisa ( Red SOx Chick) is going to run 7 miles...YAY Lisa!!!!! Have a great remainder of the weekend!!! |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Oh my, you ran 12 mi today?? Should I be doing a long one today? Had planned on 6 today & Tuesday, then 4-5 on Thursday, plus some spin/trainer and pool, and totally off Fri & Sat. What do you advise? |
![]() ![]() |
![]() | ![]() Follow your plan. I think what you have planned sounds fine. You will be fine next Sunday. I only ran long because that is what my coach lyss on my plan. He knows I am doing Qiuncy next week but its also part of my overall plan for racing this season. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Oh, Nancy so sorry you are sick I also vote for the foam roller. Love it! I paid very little for a small one at REI; they are everywhere now - even TArget & Walmart. I did a brick - a short trainer ride (testing a new saddle), and then ran 8 mi. Tried out some GU Roctane. The sun was shining! No stupid layers of warm winter clothing! And today is my birthday! IT WAS GREAT! Have a nice week, folks |

Member ![]() | ![]() I'm still here! Hope you're feeling better Nancy. I tried my own mini traithlon on Saturday, swimming 1,000 yards (quite a bit for me) then biking 15 miles and running 5 miles. It's a start. I'm also running in the New Bedford 1/2 marathon this Sunday the 18th, as I will be away for most of the weekend and I wouldn't be able to make the Quincy one, so I decided to go with the closer New Bedford. I'll be running with you guys in spirit! Hope everyone gets some good training in this week, should be really nice weather |

Thanks for all the bday greetings, ladies I saw that the TVF 15K run is that same morning, 3/31, but I think I'm not going to run it. The Expo looks great! It is free, but if you register ahead you can be in a drawing (or get a swag bag or something ?). The Total Immersion swim seminars are $65 and there are Chi Running seminars ($50?). I gather there is a large MIT parking garage adjacent to the expo site. Running in the city would be fun. http://www.multisportworld.com/Boston.htm
Ah, Erica ! Bummer! I hope you get out today. What a beautiful spring break Edited by Erincsg 2012-03-13 9:25 AM |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I just saw that the "Boston" SheROX has been changed from Webster to Mirror Lake, near Shirley. The sites are equidistant from me in Hopkinton. Nancy if you're doing SheROX and you'd like to train on that course I'd be glad to meet you up there this summer. I started reading about ChiRunning. Interesting. Do any of you follow this philosophy/method ? I dread getting injured, and I've also become interested in the barefoot/minimalist running; I think my next pair of shoes is going to be something very light and flat- I'd love to hear your thoughts.... Member ![]() ![]() | ![]() Just got an email saying the DC Tri was cancelled (just finished a run, ironically). I am so bummed, I was looking forward to his race, inspired, this was also going to be a trip to DC for the fam. How does a race i registered for in October get cancelled?! None of their replacement options worked for me so, ill take the refund a pay for another local race. maybe look into seeing if there are any near my brother in PA. The wind has officialy been removed from my sails, I sent a WTF bbm to my friend who was doing with me followed by one saying "were still swimming tonight" so i think I a getting it back already. Ill look into SheRox as well.. and Happy Belated Birthday Ladies!
Got to remember to google foam roller |

Got to remember to google foam roller That stinks! I think the DC tri was seriously affected by hurricanes last year - wasn't the swim cancelled b/c the Potomac was disgusting ? Maybe the sponsors pulled out ? That's great that you have a plan to incorporate a family trip with a race This is the roller we have, petite and cheap. http://www.amazon.com/Pro-Tec-Athletics-Roller-4-Inch-12-Inch/dp/B003KVO9VM/ref=sr_1_20?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1331746448&sr=1-20 I've read rave reviews about "The Grid" roller. |
