On a tragic and sad note, I'm not sure if any of you heard about the tragedy which happened up here last night.  5 policemen were shot and 1 killed while at a house during a drug investigation near the seacoast of New Hampshire.

The man killed was the 46 year old chief of police of Greenland NH, and he was scheduled to retire next week.  Senseless tragedy.  The state is in a bit of a state of shock since we somehow tend to believe this sort of thing doesn't happen up here in our sleepy neck of the woods.

I had not heard about this.  So sad. Frown

Jo63 - 2012-04-13 9:22 PM So tomorrow morning is my long run 20 miles. The people putting on the race are having a group run so we can get a feel for the course. This will be the farthest I have ever run, It only a training run but I am excited to see if I will be able to do it without walking I have been doing so much better on my other runs.

JoAnne good luck and enjoy the run tomorrow morning. I know for me I never looked forward to the 20 milers when I was training for my marathons but once I started getting into the run I wound up enjoying it and not having any problems getting it done. I'm sure you'll do just fine.

Sorry I have been away from the forum and training today but I was busy shopping for this \/\/\/\/\/\/

Now its not a Trek Speed Concept but this will do for my first tri bike.  I figure I'll build this one up a little over time.  It did come with Ultegra derailleurs and shifters and a carbon fork.  I'll have to get some faster wheels later and a new lighter, faster cockpit.  These things will be much easier on my budget in a slower process.  I go for a fit Monday but I am planning a ride tomorrow to give it a nice test run.

I'll also get a better pic up tomorrow.  This one's pretty dark.

Dirk congrats on the new bike and enjoy that first ride tomorrow! I almost bought a Felt but was lucky to get the money I needed together for the Cervelo I wanted. It's a good looking bike and looking forward to seeing the new pics.

Dirk, that is a BEAUTIFUL bike!  enjoy and let us know what U think.

Vero, be sure U let us know about the race. good luck!

I did get 8 easy miles of running in yesterday and a short swim session.

OPn my way to take my son to a baseball tourney.  He is on a travel team and we spends lots of time on that, so no training this weekend.  If the motel has a heated pool, I might get in it early tomorrow or get a run in.

See ya'll when I get back.

Enjoy ur weekend and train HARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck John!  5 miles is a great distance.  You'll most likely kill it and make me look like a sorry slow-a$$, but EITHER WAY...have fun! Looking forward to the race report.

Did you honestly just post a non-drive side picture of a sweet bike in the dark!?  You're killin' me!

I am however very excited for you.  The S22 is an awesome bike.  A buddy of mine races on an aluminum frame 2005 cervelo dual and wins almost every race he enters, so guess what!?  NO EXCUSES NOW BUDDY!!!

Congrats.  That's so awesome.

I knew you'd be unhappy with something.  I can never satisfy you!

Actually I took the pic with my phone at a lower quality setting so it would be easier to post on here.  The image quality is pretty horrible.  It's on fb if you want a little bit better pic.  I was also busy tweaking it a little bit from the in store settings the bike had on it.  I hope to get a ride on it today but the forecast isn't particularly favorable......Go figure!!!

What do you mean the weather isn't favorable!?  There isn't a cloud in the sky here and it's supposed to be 70 today....the leaves on the trees aren't even moving it's so calm.  Okay....that last part was a lie.

I'm heading out for 30 miles with a buddy of mine out of Boston today.  Really looking forward to it.  The workday can't end soon enough!!

Dirk sorry to hear about the weather today. That's just not right it's like having Christmas morning and not being allowed to open the gifts. I was gonna take a day off today but I finished my work before 3 am last night and got a good night's sleep so like Jonathan said the wheather here in the Northeast is pretty nice might as well take advantage of it. I don't think I can pass up the chance to get out on the bike for an hour or two today. Besides I don't want to be the only slacker here with everybody else racing and training today.

Abundant sunshine is the forecast for the Oly race I was supposed to be doing at this very moment.  Yell

That would have been nice.  Instead, I'm going to go to the gym and ride on the spin bike for as long as possible.  (Still coughing up some nasty crap and I don't want my lungs to breathe the cold air outside.)  Can't get on the trainer because my husband now has the crap with a fever and is in a bad mood.  I need to remove myself from the house.

Good luck to the racers this weekend!

Dirk: I have a large garage with plenty of storage room if you need s place to store that new bike! Also since I am such a nice guy I will make sure it doesn't get lonely! The bike looks fast just sitting in the picture, enjoy! On the training side: went for a short 6 mile run and made sure I kept it easy! Average pace was above 10m, at times I wasn't sure if I was moving or not! Going into the 1 week count down and I am going to remove all effort from the runs but still maintain the distance! After Tuesday/Wednesday I will cut the distance out and just do warm-up runs! Good luck to everyone racing this weekend, I wish I had a tri coming up! I'm still 2 months + from my 1st! Maybe I need to find something closer. It there just isnt anything around!

My next scheduled race is a half marathon the first weekend in May.  I'll be going for a PR.  That won't be a problem.  I'd like to do between 1:45 and 1:50 at that race.  At a recent 10 mile race, I finished in 1:21.  Do you guys think my goal is possible?

Definitely!  I think you should be fine for the HM.  Just make sure you get the rest and recovery you need right now.  Everything will fall into place over the next couple of weeks.

I am going to predict a 1:46:42 for the race.

1:48:09...which is awesome by the way.

The McMillan running calculator puts you at a 1:47:34 based on your 10 mile time.  If you haven't seen this tool before, here's a link: http://www.mcmillanrunning.com/index.php/site/calculator
It's pretty cool- it will show you comparable times for other distances based on a race of the distance you ran.  It will also calculate your training paces (recovery, long, easy, etc).

That running calculator is awesome! I'd never seen one that had that much detail before.

Just dropped in real quick - fantastic race this morning. I had sort of a taper this week because I hadn't been able to get out. I decided to give it everything, so I got myself going quickly and spent the first half with my HR around 5 beats below my LTHR. Cruised the first 2./5 at that and allowed myself to creep just a few beats above for the next 1.5 miles, then just ran like crazy for the last mile. Completely unexpected results - a sub-8/mile performance with negative splits in my first race of the season. Time was 39:26, which put me at a 7:57 pace, according to my watch.

My dad and sister were running too, and I came back so quickly my mum didn't have the camera ready. I'm smug about that!

Just had to share that, I'm heading out to celebrate with some playoff hockey and a couple of beers!

I like the running calculator and refer to it often!  I've actually even tried to use it for swimming paces too. Tongue out  I feel it gives me a baseline.

Hey all.

Decided to take Thur. & Fri. off of training. It was snowing and I was feeling a little out of it. I did get a swim & run in today before it snowed again.

Thursday I saw my nutritionist. Just getting myself weighed and fat percentage checked and tweaking my diet. I'm at 155 lbs. & 13% body fat. I really having trouble gaining the weight I want. I'm looking to be around 165 lbs. & 12-13% body fat. So, we figured some muscle mass is what I need to get to the desired weight. So, for all you gym rats I need some advice on exercises and/or weight training to get the 10 lbs. I need.
