I am setting up a fly fishing day for Jim while we are in Key West. He requested that for his Christmas present. Sheesh. it is expensive. But then, heck, he puts up with my shyte all the time. I am going to book it for Thursday. That way, Ann will be there the next day and we can all play.

I think kayaking together would be lovely!

YEA PLAYTIME!!!

Heck yeah! I am so excited to go to KW! I think hubby's going to come with--we just need to find someone to be with the kids. which is not as easy as you would think it should be.

Just drop your kiddos off at my house.

Careful what you ask for! I have 2 very strong personalities (aka stubborn and thick skulled). I mean darling. Just adorable kids. So when should I drop them off? I can have them to your house this weekend. That should give them plenty of time to get comfortable before the race in January, right? I promise I'll come pick them up after the HM. How's that sound?

Because I NEVER talk about my kids...

Keri recently retested for their guided reading groups. She moved up 2 levels! She was on the same level all of last year. Since she is getting help in school she enjoys reading now. I am so happy for the kid, she is doing so wel!!!

We've talked about Caleb and the bullying, right? Caleb and I play a game on our iDevices. In this game you can be part of a Clan, and there is a chat feature. I am a clan leader, Caleb and a few others are Elders. There is a mix of kids and adults in our clan. Anyway... last night Caleb was on chatting with people, when I couldn't. One of the kids said he was having a rough night. Caleb asked him what was wrong. They got to talking, and it turns out the kid is being bullied. He was beat up after school. Caleb told him he needs to tell his mom. The kid said he tried but she doesn't really listen. Caleb told him to tell a teacher he trusts, a friends mom, someone who will listen. He told him that if there wasn't anyone there he could tell that Caleb would have his mom (me) contact this boys mom. Caleb said he was confident I would push until things were taken care of. He told the kid to hang in there, and take care of himself. The kid is going to Disney World for the next week to see his grandparents, so I won't know until he gets back how things are going. I hope it he gets it worked out, and I would contact his mom if he asked me to.

I have good kids.

Anne, you do have great kids.  As a reader and a librarian, I am happy to hear about Keri's progress in reading.  That is awesome.  And, Caleb is an outstanding young man.  You are raising him right.  Even with all the crap that he has to put up with (bullies, etc), it is so awesome to see him reaching out to another and sharing the wisdom that he has learned.

Growing up is tough, grownup world not that much better.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN THE TRUTH ABOUT SANTA?

HA, Santa still comes to my house and the baby is now 28.  Seriously, I'm not really sure when my kids stopped believing for Santa has never stopped coming.  I know that they know since the oldest is now a Santa herself for her kids.

Santa always wrapped the gifts at our house, but he had special wrapping paper different from what I would give the family to use, so no confusion regarding it being the same.  I did not wrap what went into the stockings though.  My daughter does the opposite.  She and my SIL wrap all the little stuff in the stocking and leave the big presents unwrapped.  The whole unwrapped makes sense to me with her having 4 kids, that is a lot of wrapping to do.  I honestly don't remember if Santa left them wrapped or unwrapped when I was growing up, because we did not get a whole lot of stuff.

4th grade girl books

Black Beauty

Black Stallion series

Little house series

Narnia series

American Girl series

Neverending Story

Camp Club Girls Series

Bindi Wildlife Adventures series

Horse Diaries series

Dragon Codex series

I get the feeling that Keri would also enjoy what would be considered "boy" books since she is so into sports, so you could always look at author Matt Christopher

Thanks Kendra. I already have The Chronicles of Narnia, I could probably read it with her. I'm sure she'd like anything with horses in it. I'm interested in checking out the Dragon Codex series, and Bindi Wildlife Adventures Series.

The truth is there is a Santa Claus. This is the letter I have ready for Keri. I borrowed it from one I found on the internet, and changed it up a little.

Dear Keri,

You asked a very good question: “Are you Santa?”

I know you’ve wanted the answer to this question for a long time, and I’ve
had to give it careful thought to know just what to say.

The answer is no. I am not Santa. There is no one Santa.

I am the person who fills your stockings with presents, though. I also
choose and wrap the presents under the tree, the same way my mom did for me,
and the same way her mom did for her. (And yes, Daddy helps, too.)

I imagine you will someday do this for your children, and I know you will
love seeing them run down the stairs on Christmas morning. You will love seeing
them sit under the tree, their small faces lit with Christmas lights.

This won’t make you Santa, though.

Santa is bigger than any person, and his work has gone on longer than any of
us have lived. What he does is simple, but it is powerful. He teaches children
how to have belief in something they can’t see or touch.

It’s a big job, and it’s an important one. Throughout your life, you will
need this capacity to believe: in yourself, in your friends, in your talents
and in your family. You’ll also need to believe in things you can’t measure or
even hold in your hand. Here, I am talking about love, that great power that
will light your life from the inside out, even during its darkest, coldest
moments.

Santa is a teacher, and I have been his student, and now you know the secret
of how he gets down all those chimneys on Christmas Eve: he has help from all
the people whose hearts he’s filled with joy.

With full hearts, people like Daddy and me take our turns helping Santa do a
job that would otherwise be impossible.

So, no, I am not Santa. Santa is love and magic and hope and happiness. I’m
on his team, and now you are, too.

I love you and I always will.

Mom

Mom

That is a great letter, Ann.
