800 pull, 800 pull and paddle, 800 swim followed by a 30 minute recovery run.

I could really use a nap about now.

Laughing I have the same thing on Friday but 900s. I dread this part of the week....the days that lead up to Friday. I have to do the paddle with the Finis Agility Paddles and they are harder than the PT paddles. I have to break up the set because there is no fng way I could sustain a 900 with those fng things. Did I mention I hate those fng things?

LOL.  Mine are on order.  I just accept that it's going to be really, REALLY slow.

I just had to google those. Are they really that bad? I hate normal paddles. Especially right now with my chicken wing arms, so slow!

Tough workout!!

For you they probably would not be difficult. You are a very strong swimmer. I, on the other hand, suck. They are not like normal paddles. They are designed to help teach proper early vertical forearm and feel for the water. So, when I do them, my arm often crosses over, my body often contorts, they might fall off when my hand enters the water etc...unless I use proper form. They have nothing to do with strength.

Oh weird. I wonder if anyone at my Masters has a set, now I want to try them.

Sorry for the absence everyone. I have been traveling, and busy with the kids. I am a bit late on the Jan totals, but here they are.
January's totals
Swim: 9h 43m - 24150 Yd Bike: 8h 50m - 157.96 Mi Run: 9h 57m - 65.29 Mi

There are some impressive numbers on here. Congrats to everyone. The last two weeks here in Jersey have been tough to get outside, or to the gym. Our weather has sucked. I went skiing for four days in VT and came back completely zapped of energy. Super Bowl weekend in VT is not a nutritional oasis. So I am looking for some recipes for small quick snacks. I have tried a no sugar, no flour banana chocolate chip muffin made mostly of flax and oats. Pretty good for between meals or before a work out. I would really like an egg muffin recipe for after my morning shake. Does anyone have one? I think my totals from Jan were pretty decent, but if my nutrition isn't in order, there is no way I can get to the totals I will need to succeed.

These aren't egg muffins, or no sugar/flour. But I thought of these as they are super tasty and not a cupcake-with-no-frosting muffin.

http://allrecipes.com/recipe/bran-flax-muffins/

Helps to have a food processor for the apples/carrots and they have great consistency. Now I just need to experiment at turning these vegan...

Where in VT were you? I am relatively close by and love boarding at Jay Peak. We were hit with a bunch of snow recently and plan on going boarding this weekend.

I think I have mentioned before, if you want some recipes for quick snacks - check out Skratch's Feed Zone Portables....pretty cool, healthy, and good stuff.

I love VT. We have a family condo at Okemo in Trailside Condos. It's my happy place! Way south of Jay Peak, but it was a beautiful week to be up. However, as always lately, we leave for NJ and drive through the storm that dumped on VT. Just missed it again.

Scratch Labs, huh? I have looked at their stuff online. Seems like a good product and I would like to try their stuff. Is it worth the added cost?

Well their cookbooks aren't that expensive and I'm sure you could find it on amazon...can't answer their hydration question for you, however. People who use it, swear buy it. I personally really like it....but in terms of looking for something to eat for a quick snack. Check out the cook book.

If you haven't been to Jay Peak in a while, they have a brand new indoor water park that is huge and have upgraded everything. Well worth it and great for kids...and they have a good bar....and they make really good poutine and their own beer

Never tried Okemo...how awesome to have a trailside condo. If I go southern vt I usually go to MT Snow.

I LOVE Skratch.  That said I do understand the cost issue and I'd probably be using Perform or EFS if I didn't get a discount on Skratch.

Today was supposed to be long run and recovery ride day, but I got on the treadmill (cold and wet here) and my legs felt like cinder blocks.  Toughed out the 50 minutes on the treadmill and just couldn't force myself through my bike workout.  I have fails, but at least I got the key workout in.  Tomorrow is my middle daughter Abby's birthday party.  Should be a fun time.  I can't believe she's five already.  Yikes.

Never tried Okemo...how awesome to have a trailside condo. If I go southern vt I usually go to MT Snow.

You will have to try Okemo sometime. They have five ski areas, all accessible from anywhere on the mountain. Solitude and Jackson Gore are geared toward advanced skiers and riders, while the other three areas are more family oriented. The terrain parks are fantastic. This year the half pipe was at 17'. It has been up to 20' on a good snow year. Grooming is meticulous. It is just as well maintained as I have seen on the east coast. Nobody in Southern VT has anything close. And i think they have the most tererain on the east coast. 585 acres open this year, with a South Face lodge planned for next year. During a really bad winter, I prefer the conditions at Jay Peak and the fact that I can grab some Heady Topper on our way up always makes me happy. But it is a hike from the Princeton, NJ area. I can be in Okemo in under 5 hours, and with the kids in the car that is a bonus.

I ordered both Scratch Labs cookbooks this morning. Grabbed them on Amazon for $30 for both. And I am headed out to the beach this weekend to the bike shop. I am going to pick up some of Scratch labs products and give them a try. Right now, i think I survive on Gatorade and that cannot be good. tahnks for the advice, i will let everyone know how it works out.

I will have to look into Okemo to see how far it is from my house. It would have to be for an extended stay since I have multiple areas in Maine and NH all within an hour or so from where I live.

Let me know what you think of the Feed Zone book. I have made several of their rice cakes and baked egg recipes and have liked them. Also let me know which Skratch hydration product you tried and if you liked it. I personally love the Pineapple flavor. BTW...if you have time, check out Skratch Lab's commercials on YouTube. Hysterical.

So I have a 2700yd swim tonight, 900 of which will be using agility paddles (AKA devices of torture) - a 3 hour ride tomorrow followed by a 35min brick run on Sat - and 1:00 bike (all out intervals) and 1:20 run on Sunday. My daughter, Elsa who was adopted from China, has her Chinese New Year performance tomorrow (the whole thing lasts about 3 hours) and we leave around 830. So, I am thinking I will likely need to be on the bike by 4AM. And I am supposed to go skiing on Sunday. Who needs sleep right?

Scott- have fun with the B-Day party.

So I was wondering who has races coming up in the near future. I know two have HIMs in April and Brenda has a HM in March..anyone else have anything in the near future. My first tri isn't until May but I may try to find some road races before that.

Well I have totally slacked off the last two days. I told myself it's okay since official IM training starts Monday and - ridiculous whine alert - it's been cold here in Seattle. Of course that is nothing compared to what alot of you are seeing. It's only been 3 months since I moved here and I've already become a cold weather sissy.

3 hour trainer ride this afternoon. Need to come up with a plan to break it up with some intervals or something. Looking forward to some time with Sherlock though!

Happy Friday all!

Sleep is over rated, especially when skiing is involved. Enjoy the early ride and performance!

I have a half Mary in March. Not yet sure if I'll race it or just run for a training run. Then nothing until the end of May.

Discovered my new guilty pleasure is watching Orange is the New Black on the trainer.  I find it quite comical.  It hasn't been nearly as hard to get up at 5:30 and crawl down to the basement for a 60-90 minute trainer session when I know I can watch the next episode.  It's the only time I will watch the show - not appropriate for anyone under 18 in my opinion, so it's not going to be on the TV while the little ones are awake.

Tomorrow I'm going to ski.  There is finally plenty of snow outside and it won't be -20°F.  I haven't been downhill skiing since I was pregnant with my oldest - 13 years ago!  And I have only ever skied that one time.  This should be hilarious. I wanted to try and get a run in before we left, but not sure that's a good idea.  I might want to try and save my legs for the slopes.  I'll call it a cx training day.

Nice Crissy. Loved that series. Where are you going skiing. If I go on Sunday I plan to wear my garmin and hr monitor. Looks like you have a tri coming up soon. Have you done it before?

Felt pretty good after my swim yesterday. Minor improvement with the torture devices. It's now 3:50 am and am off for a long ride and brick run. Am going to start watching Breaking Bad.

We have a slope about 70 minutes from us in Crescent, IA.  Yes, I said SLOPE.  There are actually a couple different slopes, they are on the side of a big hill along the Missouri river.  They have 2 lifts.  We all had a great time.  It was the first time the kids have gone and they LOVED it.  My 9 year old twisted her knee on a good wipe out, but that didn't stop her, now it's bothering her.  I didn't feel like I got much of a work out in, but I am dead tired this evening and going to bed early.  Night all!

Forgot to mention that, yes, I'll be doing this tri for the second time.  It was my first triathlon last year, and I want to see how I have improved since last year, so I'm doing it again this year.  And probably next year too.

Love hearing about all the skiing activity you guys have going on! It's been years since I've been skiing, but always loved it. Now this isn't meant to be like putting lemon juice on an open cut, but during my bike ride this morning I got to see dolphins 3 different times! We did repeats on the Sanibel Island, FL causeway and just when the wind was really kicking up and I was saying those adult kind of words, I looked out and saw them playing.....just what I needed.
I've been doing a lot of foam rolling, trigger release therapy and stretching to work through an IT band issue. Boy can that roller hurt!!! I went to yoga Thursday night and remembered how much I like it....I need to find time for more of that.

Chris - glad Sam is home from the hospital!

Cheers, Brenda

I'm the only one in my family that has ever seen real snow.  Houston snow is not the real deal, so I'm uber jealous of folks skiing.

I had 2:30 on the bike this weekend and a 35 minute run off the bike.  My legs felt good for the first time since I started knocking the rust off.

Rollers are the worst! And best! I know what you mean; it hurts so good. And dolphins? Oh man, so jealous here.

It snowed 2 inches in an hour at my house on Saturday night here in Seattle, and I learned why snow in Seattle causes panic. Next time I will immediately go home when the snow starts to avoid trying to get around on it. And this coming from someone who lived the last 5 years in the Colorado mountains where going to work after 18 inches of snow was no big deal. Except usually I'd take the morning off and go skiing if that happened...

Started IM training this morning by going to Masters. I've been putting off going due to intimidation. Was just great! My swimming endurance is still quite low, so time to change that. Oh and I had no idea what my 100 time was... couldn't remember even what I normally swam them on in intervals... whoops. I blame the fact that it was 5:30 am.

Happy Valentine's week everyone!

So I think I am tapering this week cause I have a run test on Sunday. Not sure how I am going to do it because of all the snow on the roads and there is no track to speak of. Good thing that it is a really low volume week, as I am spent from the weekend. 6 hours running + biking + family stuff + boarding = 1 pooped person.

The start of the race I had the jitters. I was watching the other age groups start as they seeded the swim with over 1000 participants.
