Thanks Isabella, Phil, Carl, Steve and Samantha for your inputs.
For my swim, I went with a waterproof wrist watch (Timex T5E901 with chrono) for $30.

7 mile run last night was slow but steady. I will run tonight sat and sun. Bike also on sat and sun. Just enjoy the weekend and hopefully go for a hike on Sunday with friends.

Kumar- sounds like a perfect choice for now. As long as you are happy with it. :-)

Steve - feeling any better?

MD - how's the body feeling?

Happy weekend!

Samantha, nice 7 miler, and that's one active weekend you have planned!

Kumar, good going on the $30 timex. Hope you have fun at Cowtown....should be a beautiful day! Looking forward to your race report.

Felt a little spring in my step on my walk/jog this morning. ART doc recommended keeping at my current walk/jog workouts for another week before I try to up it at all. Arch still aches some after each run, but recovers faster than it was so I'm calling it progress. Plan is to ride tomorrow.

Steve, feeling any better?

Happy weekend to all!

Yeah for progress Carol! I hate how injuries can take so long to heal, but, when there is improvement I am happy. Keep the faith! Everyone have a great weekend! Long run for me in the morning so off to bed soon : )

Hey Everyone! Well I turned 29 this past Wednesday!!!! Great birthday! New Giro Selector White Helmet! Pumped!!!!!! Tri clothes and couple hundred dollars to purchase any tri-gear of my choice! Gonna have to think about this one!!!! Anyways training is going well, but I am about to have to amp it up. I got to do a outdoor ride today. I pulled a rookie mistake and shifted the wrong way before clipping out of the pedals. I was ok, but the concrete did not feel good. Ha Ha.

Carl- My email is [email protected]. I would love to review over the training plans. My training officially starts March 3.

Kumar- Good luck on the Mary Sunday! You will do great!!!! Will be looking forward to your success.

Samantha- Great 7 Miler!!!!!!!

Phil- Thank you for the description of the different watches. I have been debating on if I should invest in a swim watch.

Steve- That is what I do. Is count the laps. It works great until my head becomes dizzy from swimming so much, and I get mixed up. Ha ha.

Selector is a sweet helmet grats. For any looking at buying a helmet my first choice would be the Specialized Evade. It weighs less, has better cooling, way shorter tail, but does cost $250. It will be interesting to see how many professionals are using that helmet this year. You can use your watch to mark laps or you can bring markers. Pennies, legos, anything you want and just move one every 500 yards or whatever. I use the tiles next to the pool to mark progress and when to change from one set to another.

Oh and remember that you can get prescription swim goggles for around 25-$35.

Cold still lingering. We see how my 65 mile bike and 4 mile brick run mix with cold symptoms.

Jared- happy birthday! What great gifts you received!

Steve. Curious to here your report after today's training.

8 mile trainer ride. It's seems like such a short distance to write about. Oh well. 4 mile run later today. Yesterday's two miler felt like a death march. Was so glad when it was over. I mentioned I'm helping my boss train smart for a HM. The other day we were talking and it came to light that instead of doing her miles each day she would combine days to get the miles in. We laughed and I told her she could choose to do that but I don't recommend it plus that's not really how it works. She said she will stick to the plan from now on. If she follows thru and has a really good HM I will be so pleased.

Hi everyone. Today I'm hitting the reset button on my training. I've been a mess the past several weeks with RL stuff, stupid ice fall injuries, work, etc. Went shopping for pants today and had to buy a size up since my usual size somehow doesn't fit....Uh.....that's not good....

I've been feeling really non-motivated and my planned training is a joke at this point, so I'm starting over.

Can I say Ditto to the three comments above? The comments said what I want to says but since I'm reading while eating breakfast in prep for church, I can't type much.

I've stayed with my running and vitamin regime this week and feel better. Unfortunately work, baseball, prior commitments, rentals, etc. are taking up every bit of online time - and waking time. Did get a 6 mile run in yesterday and it was great.

As for swimming, my high tech solution is moving pennies for each lap. I also do that for run loops. I did natural (no electronics) for years, used my Garmin 305 for years until it crapped out, and now I'm back to enjoying the natural option again. For bike and run, go to runningahead.com to map things out.

Too late to wish Kumar luck before his race but I'm thinking about you now. It should be starting soon. Hope it's an awesome day!!!

Well it's been an eventful weekend came down with pink eye first time that I can remember ever having it. I think I'll probably stay out of the pool for a couple days but everything else moves on, did 26 miles outside on the back yesterday and am about to walk out the door for a 7 mile run.

Kumar: congrats with the marathon!

Jared: Happy birthday. Tri gear=awesome gifts. Lmk how you like the Selector! I may invest in a helmet myself, albeit with a shorter tail. Steve mentioned the Evade which looks cool, but I got my eyes on the Giro Air Attack Shield.

Mike: I hope you find some motivation. Sorry to hear of your training struggles but keep at it. Always gonna be some roadblocks in life. Steve, for example, goes 65 mi on a bike while feeling under the weather, which is incredible.

Counting laps is more difficult than differential equations for me. Which makes perfect sense because I'm an engineer. My high tech solution used to be to just have my masters coach tell me how much I swam, before I got the tomtom. I lose count after 75 yards let alone 500, so the pennies thing would disrupt my continuity. But I love gadgets and gizmos, and I need to justify every purchase, especially now that I'll be getting married soon! Haha!

I personally had a great week of training for the HM. 5.7, 5.2, 3 and 9 miles on Tues, Thurs, Sat, and today, respectively. Was able to keep the 5.2 at under 9:00 pace, and the 9 miles was the longest run this season, and was at a 9:42 pace. I only drank lightly last night, 3 beers and a Jameson (I had to because it was my brother's birthday!) so a hangover didn't interfere with my long run this week! I did feel really sluggish during the 3-miler. I attribute it to two milkshakes I had this week.

Phil - solid week of training for you! Happy helmet hunting!

Carl - days off are so important to plan and take unplanned occasionally.

Jared - I feel the same way about carol. Glad I can be in the same category as her!

Steve - major good job to you! Doing anything when I'm sick I er unlikely cause I'm a big baby, but now I'll think of you and hopefully be inspired to get out there.

MD - hang in there. For over a year know I've watched you be faithful to your training and real life, so I know you will be there again. Try not to be hard on yourself as you take steps forward.

Mike - I think it was you that said you got pink eye. Lame! Definitely stay out of the pool.

Pam - you are such a busy lady. Way to keep up with it all!

Carol - any more good news?

Kumar- congrats! Looking forward to hearing details.

Phil - did you recently get engaged? So exciting! You've probably been engaged for a while but I don't remember things well.

Solid weekend of running for me. Missed my bike today, but I'm ok with that. Tuesday is my birthday, which isn't too big of a deal for me. Just thought I'd share. As a sort of spur of the moment early birthday present for myself I bought a beautiful pet lovebird. When I held her in my hands the first time I immediately said " you look like rainbow sherbert". And her coloring really does. Today a friend stopped by and he said the exact same thing before I had time tell him that's what I had said. It was funny. So that's her name. And lovebirds are actually miniature parrots. So cute!

Thanks Carol, Linda, Jared, Carl, Pam, Phil for your comments and wishes.

I wrote my race report.
Yesterday, I finished the Cowtown marathon in 7h 25m 25s finishing strong at the end of the race.
It was a gorgeous day and I enjoyed myself thoroughly.

Now, on to my next 2014 journey, possibly, my fist sprint tri.

Phil - Great to see you going strong with your HM training. 9miles @ 9.42 pace. This is stuff I can start dreaming about.

Hi Mike,

Start over, but do not be discouraged.
There have been so many instances since I started training in May last year that I did not train as I planned.
Just do the next training and keep doing the next time and pretty soon, you have a bunch of training under your belt.
I have not being doing this for long, but the mental frame of mind helps.

All the best to you.

- Kumar

Kumar - congrats!!

Hit the pool today for the first time in 2 weeks and it felt like it . Managed 2700 yards at my masters class. I'm a bit sore right now, but its a good kind of sore. We did one set where we had a timed 100. We did 3 and I managed 1:20, 1:25, and 1:28. Was happy with the 1:20 as I have been working on a slightly new approach to stroke turnover, and hopefully its working. Its the 2nd fastest 100 I've ever done (that was timed, anyway). I faded toward the end of the workout, but that was just fitness, which I'll get back quickly.

I'm also being vigilant about what I eat, and so far so good. My first race is 4 months away, and I'm hopeful I can lose 15 pounds by then.

Of course, there is more snow on the way this week....

Kumar -- Woohoooooo!!!!! Congrats on your first mary! So glad you had a good day out there. 26.2 miles is a huge accomplishment, and I hope you are enjoying some well deserved rest. Your attitude re: training and setbacks is great. Looking forward to seeing you apply that to tri training. Oh, and if you wrote up a race report to post, there is a button to click to make it public. Otherwise, only you can see it.

Linda -- Thanks for your encouraging words re: coming back from injuries. Much appreciated! Yes, every day is a new day .

Steve -- Glad you were well enough to train, and hope you feel better soon!

Samantha -- HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!! What a great present. Rainbow Sherbert -- love the name! Yes, we do need a picture. Great going with helping your boss with HM training. Nice to share the gift! Thanks for asking re: good news. Run is coming along OK. I'm doing the same workout every other day for a couple weeks...walk 0.5, (run 0.25, walk 0.25) X 5, walk 0.5ish home. Foot still aches some afterwards, but recovers OK. Will start to take out some of the walks, and add in a little more distance after that, but will be a very slow, gradual process. I'm happy to be able to cover 3.5 miles on a regular basis.

Mike D -- glad you were able to get out yesterday. LOL in the pants shopping. I know the feeling. Had to retire my favorite pair of jeans this weekend. Hard to let them go because they had a bit of stretch to them, and I like stretchy these days!

Carl -- I like your brother in law's low budget approach . How is the swim training going for you?

Pam -- Cheers on a full life for you! Hope the not so fun stuff slows down a bit for you...like maybe the rental. We shipped in a great cycling partner for you from TX....hope you and Jackie get to ride some.

Mike -- pink eye, ugh! At least you are in good company with Bob Costas. You been hanging out in Sochi?

Jared -- nice birthday presents for you! I'm right there with you on the lap counting. There are days when I lose count swimming 200 warm up yards. Yes, I'm an accountant and I cannot count to 4!

Phil -- LOL on getting the gadgets and gizmos. I tend to be on the "thrifty" side, but I love seeing my hubby get things he enjoys. We have had some unexpected income this year, and the speakers he has always wanted should arrive today. Last year we splurged on bikes, which was more my thing. Just have to keep it real with the family budget, and always want the best for your spouse.

Mitzi -- how is dieting/training going for you?

Shred video and a swim on tap for today. I think I'm going to have to fire up the trainer. Weather is turning back to inhospitable for biking and planning on a gran fondo ride at the end of March. Not sure the distance we'll be doing, but it would be nice to be in good enough bike shape to enjoy the ride!
