Hi Team.

Ok I have be a little silent for er,,,,well...ahem...awhile....I started my gear up for this season my first year doing a full Ironman...Ironman Florida...and as years of true greatness usually go...It snowed...then iced...then my h announced he wanted a divorce...then I got sick....not be be vulgar but WHAT THE FG5&(*^^*^*()^%$^%ING HELL!!!!

SO..I slogged myself awake this am and started back...I still have a cough and congestion...and my H is still leaving me but aside from that I feel ready to go...So now I am simplfying even more...I am just going to finish...thats my goal...and God willing...get moving again on my training...I have a few little issues along the way like...oh...say finding a place to live...and finding time to train with two little kiddos at home...losing all the christmas/icestorm/divorce weight...

but I am gonna try to log on here everyday so i dont forget how important this is to me...I have a 2400 swim today...a bike race in two weeks...i think there is some third part of the sport called running I seem to have completely forgotten about... but...you know...

I am gonna be a gosh darn Ironman and when i hobble/stagger/sprint/skip whatever-the-hell-i-end-up-doing across that finish line it is going to feel soooooooo damn good!

happy winter training everyone...Tongue out

Ali,

You can do it.  Stay healthy and injury free and you will be able to do it.  I was thinking about volunteering this year so that I can enter it in 2012 and I have a number of friends doing it.

Keep training.

ah divorce...been there, done that, got the t-shirt. Dont wish it upon anyone. But as usual, life doesnt always give you choices.

I had to learn to adopt 2 rules to live by:

1) Don't sweat the small stuff
2) Its ALL small stuff....

I wish you the best and cant wait to read your race report when you finish!!

TriAli - ouch, the best of luck.  Just keep moving forward, sometimes that is a victory itself.

John - I have an appointment next Thursday to try it out.  But it's not cabled up so they are offering to put it on a trainer and fit it to me to see how I like it (won't be able to shift, etc).  Not sure I really want to buy a bike simply by riding it on the trainer before hand.  Heck even buying a car I can test drive on the road.

Will see, my intuition is telling me there is a reason for this.  They are also offering a Felt S22 but with lower components.  None of this is thrilling me.

TriAli,
Sorry to hear about your situation. So far I have found that life usually works out for the best but hurts like hell some times getting there as long as you don't give up.

Wow this last couple of weeks just haven't worked out. Last week the truck this week I am sick. My official training should start tomorrow but I don't think I am going to make it. 30 weeks until IMKY and not the start I had envisioned.

I did race an adult mini-bike/quad team race on saturday before I got totally sick. It was so much fun. It was like running windsprints with about 1:30-2min rest for 45min. That was so much fun. We raced a honda 90cc quad against a bunch of bikes. What fun cross training.

I feel bad for you guys with the bad weather while its in the high 70's here. But of course I am the one sick and not able to take advantage of it.
I enjoying reading about all your workouts. now I am babbling so I guess i should go get some rest.

Fit4Infinity - 2011-02-05 4:09 PM Hi Amy - Are you going to give us the 4min down low on tabata training n triathlon?

@All - Pool closed today for maint.  I'm bummed.  No excuses now.  Forced to run instead.  Made my breakfast 6Mi easy over, served with a spinach eggwhites omelet.  Still planning for another 13.1 easy in the morning.  Everyone stay healthy and run happy.  Fit

Hmmmm I think you should give the down low...since you know it is 4 minutes I know you know all about it!!Smile  But I will explain anyway. lol
Tabata is interval training of 20 seconds maximum intensity followed by 10 seconds of rest repeated without pause 8 xs for a total of 4 minutes.  (I added a little pause! Wink)  Anyway I had read about it and didn't have time to spend very long on the bike Friday night so I did a little warm up then Tabata and a cool down.  The workout is named after Dr. Tabata (I forget his first name) and was developed for the Olympic Japanese speedskating team.  (If I remember my information correctly.

Sorry I have only randomly been stopping by.  I'm still spending a lot of time with my friend and her daughter.  My friends husband probably does not have much time left but he is a fighter.  No one has given up hope and that's a great thing.  We all know God has a plan and that we don't see the big picture like He can.

Mav is having knee surgery today to repair a meniscus. If you get a chance, send her a PM or an inspire. For those that dont know Mav, she is a great motivator. She use to be a smoker and now she does Tri's. She loves swimming in cold water that most would shy away from.

Thanks for all the well wishes!!! Everything went very well. The surgeon told my husband, my knee looked angry. Not sure what that means, but its fixed, torn meniscus cut away. I see the surgeon next week and I shoulld be able to get in the pool this time next week.

I have minimal swelling and NO pain...probably all the chemicals. The anesthesia people are my friends and gave me lots of good drugs...which should wear off at some point!!!

I dont need crutches today so at least that part is over. Going to set up a PT appt today.

I am a knitter...Bryan finds this funny...but I really enjoy it. Breaks up the monotony of the couch.

Because I am bored...I will keep posted on BT...SO GET YOUR WORKOUTS DONE!!!

Thanks for all the support folks...Still fighting this stupid cold but got a nice long swim and bike done so far this week...I have a TT in a week and a half but they way our artic wearther is going I am starting to wonder..

Curious who rides outside during the winter and how cold they ride in?  I have found anything under 50 degrees it just too cold for me...I did some really cold rides last year and did damage to one of my fingers,...

Would like to hear also how ya'll fight indoor trainer/treadmill boredom...

Good morning everyone.

Ali- Sorry to hear about you troubles. Hopefully it wpn;'t keep you to distracted from you goals this year.

Mav- Looks like everything went as good as it could go with your surgery. When do you think you'll be back running again. Do you have a race planned for this year?

Well, I kinda flubbed a bit last night. I got home from work and was so tired I went straight to bed. Missed my bike ride last night and slept thru my swim this morning and was late to work. Slept almost 13 hours. I guess I needed it. Still now i feel like I am behind on everything. Not suire how I am gonna make it up.

The weather is turning nasty. temps in the 20s + 20-25 MPH winds + freezing rain = indoors and bundled up for me.

On the bright side. I am making good progress on my quest to be able to do 100 good form push-ups in one set. Did 4 sets yesterday of 20, 20, 20 & 30. That's a high total for me.

One thing I do is to break up my long trainer sets. the other day I was scheduled to do 70 minute run on the treadmill. What I did was run the tread for 10 minutes, then hop over to the stationary bike and spin for 2 or 3 minutes, then head back to the treadmill for another 10. Rinse and repeat 7 times for my set.

@MAV - So Glad, yes So Glad, to hear you're doing well.

@All - Some days you are going to have good days. Some days are going to be bad. That's just the way life goes.  Last nights CPV3 trainer set went bad.  This was the 3rd time through on the dreaded 6x4@110% of critical power drill.  The first two have been tough.  Last night I was dropped off the back of a pace line of 1.

In the 6x4 the idea is to go hard (315watts) through 5 reps, but save something for the last interval.  Then go 4 watts harder.  With the new cassette (11-28), I'm having a difficult time staying at 315watts.  I'm under (300), then I'm way over (350).   Burned to much energy doing the yoyo on the first 3 intervals then cracked in the 4th.  Even with the sub standard performance in the 5th and 6th intervals, I logged 18.5 miles.  Thats 0.3 miles farther than I rode during the last tuesday's 6x4 workout.

Afternoon all!

Mav - glad things are going well.

Fit - I did Jorge's plan last year and started this years but have fell off the wagon.

Spent an hour on the treadmill last night, pushed hard the entire time but my knee doesn't like long, hard workouts on the trainer.  On the road it is fine.  Swimming this week has been killed due to work, family, etc.  Looking like will finally get back to the pool tomorrow night and then Friday lunch.  This weekend my long run is up to 8 miles.  Longest probably since last April so wish me luck.  Actually I will make it no problem, its my knee I am concerned about.  I guess its about 10 weeks until my HIM so need to start getting longer rides in.  Weather warms up next week so will probably take an afternoon off and get a 60 miler in.

The cycle program is tough.  Even more so if you take advantage of good weather, skip lunch, go for a run instead of eating and then try to workout on 1 Gu and a bottle of water.

I'll work on the nutrition side of the equation, promise.

When you're preparing for a HIM what distances do you target for the long ride, the long run and weekly run totals?

Hello again everyone!

Well, after a few days off due to somesort of chest cold/cough (that really affected my breathing) and a short trip to Dallas (poorly planned visit to friends WITHOUT superbowl tickets...i know wtf).

I ordered my bike yesterday, my first bike ever! cant wait to start riding! i spent a few hours there talking shoes, pedals, helmets, computers, trainers, repair kits, water bottle holders....I was just spewing info randomly at the guy that I had been digesting over the past few weeks. He took it all well and in stride, seemed to be knowledgable about it all, I feel comfortable with this place being my LBS. There are probalby in excess of 10 bike shops I could go to on my commute home, glad to have finally found one.

Which computer should I get?

Fit4Infinity - 2011-02-09 12:23 PM When you're preparing for a HIM what distances do you target for the long ride, the long run and weekly run totals?

Riding:
Started with 1-2 hour rides as I had just come off of an IM Aqua bike.  Currenly most of my rides are in 1-1.5 hr range (on the trainer) but working on speed.  My goal is to have at least 4-6 56+ mile rides in before taper starts.  Unfortunatetly the weather is not cooperating will have to take an afternoon or two off to get those in.

Run:
I am going to be a little different then others as I have really taken it easy on my knee due to knee surgery a couple of years ago.  I took it very light last year after my HIM and I am slowly building back up.  I shoot for one 5k, one 5 miler and then a long run which so far has been 7 miles.  I had planned to move to a run/walk for distances over 6 miles but am pushing it a little.  Also I am adding a little speed work into the 5k run.  I will probably top out at 10 miles.

Jeff - as for computer I would just go for the Garmin sensor if you have a Garmin now.

Ali - high 40s is my limit but I am a hot weather guy so I can almost always ride above 50. Boredom - do intervals rather than a straight set. It breaks up the time. For example, on the treadmill kick up the speed every 30 seconds or 1 minute for 5 minutes and then drop it back.
