less than two weeks til my half mary. ran 10 today and struggled the last mile, but it was uphill. Battling injuries to get this done. I have not been successful in a race since spring so it is going to happen. Looked at the race course elevation and there are some late hills to climb, but the scenery will be fantastic along the colorado river so i will just put my little artist mind to work thinking about paintings and hopefully it will be over before I know it.

easy run this morning and then more core work tonight.  My third child, Gordon, has been puking since last night, so I'm waiting for the others to start.  Freddy (19 month old) woke up and cried out in the night a few times, so I think his stomach might be upset, too.  A 19 year old vomiting is NOT fun.  When one falls, they all fall.  I just hope it escapes me, because I have to race this weekend.  It's hard not to get sick when you are the one cleaning up the messes all.day.long.

Anyway, I'm looking to get some clip-on aero bars before I start my bike base building program.  Any suggestions?

Sick boys are the worst.  We are whiny and needy when we're sick.  Doesn't really matter what age we are, we are pitiful.  Sorry Jen.  As far as the clip ons I like my PD Carbon Strykes, but probably would go with the Vipers if I had to do it again.

Intervals on the treadmill this morning for 50 minutes at 2% incline.

Scott, any link to the aero bars you are referring to?  I was just about to ask the same question Jen.  I start getting serious with the bike end of the month as well, and wanted to get into the aero bar thing as well.    Sorry to hear the house is sick.

I have these:

http://www.profile-design.com/profile-design/products/aerobars/carbon-aerobars/carbon-stryke.html

These better mimic what come stock on tri bikes IMO and would be one less thing to have to adjust to if/when I get a new ride.

I had a set of Carbon Strykes on my road bike before I bought my first tri bike.  They are comfortable but the comfort comes from the bike fit moreso than the type of aerobars.

As Kel is (overly) quick to point out, aerobars are not the best way to get aerodynamic on a road bike. Staying low in the drops is the most aero position on a road bike.  However, the tradeoff comes that most people can't stay in their drops for the long periods of time (e.g., 2.5-3hrs of a HIM) to negate the value of aerobars.

If you're not looking at getting a tri bike, go with a set of aero bars that you like and, most importantly, get the bike re-fit to get the best results when you are in them (normally this is moving your seat up and forward to bring more of your weight over the crank).

Agreed on all accounts.  I'm quicker in my drops but prefer the bars for comfort.  I probably should take them off for sprints but then I F#$# with my set up saddle wise.  If I am going to be on my roadie much longer I think I need to slam my front end or at least take one of the spacers out.

On my cross/road bike I really like riding in the drops and can say in them all day (thanks to strange connective tissue issue with my elbows).  So, my thought is everyone should love riding in their drops too.
