karen26.2 - 2012-12-13 11:40 AM Love your new avatar Scott.

Cool

Dots and hedgehogs this year.  Oh and trying to find a 3 monkeys sticker for the top tube of my bike.  It definitely fits 2 of the girls so I figure the 3rd will fit in quite nicely.

jarvy01 - 2012-12-13 7:44 AM I would question the KK power meter if you're averaging 240 watts (tempo ride) and your HR is that low.  I don't know that much about power, but if it's a true tempo ride, then your HR would be higher (or your watts for tempo ride would be higher).

Is it possible to overtrain on the trainer with a HR of 120?  I doubt it.  HRs are always lower inside vs. outside (at least mine is).  The key is to push yourself hard enough to get that HR up to where it needs to be for the workout you're doing.

It seems like you like the idea of using the KK power meter over HR (you most likely should have a different RPE scale for your trainer vs. outside).  I think it's fine to stick with the zones you've established with this device as long as you are seeing progress over time.  That's all that really matters anyway - progress over time!

If I pushed myself on a two hour ride on the trainer to an average HR of 135-145 that would be the equivalant of doing intervals without the rest portion and I'd be junk for the week. Last winter was my first on the trainer and I just went with it. When spring came and I got outside for the first time my HR was back in the 135-145 zone for about the same effort. It's not that I like the KK meter over HR it's just that I think I need to re-adjust my HR for the trainer and I'm not quite sure how to do it.

I did 30 minutes on the trainer this morning at an average of 122W and my average HR was 91 with a max of 100. Hopefully taking the active recovery days even lower will help.

I found it took a really long time to adjust to the trainer and I also had a really hard time getting my HR up on the trainer for the first year or so that I used it.  I would use HR and if HR seems really off go by RPE.  RPE is going to be a better governor of effort than power.

Interesting blurb on saturated fat.  Yes it's bb'ing focused but there are lots of applicable tidbits.

ARGHHH.  It really burns my arse when I read "its as easy as cals in vs. cals out" "it's thermodynamics".  Bull$hit!!  When you're at your peak levels of training for Ironman racing so are your cortisol levels. Your body will do everything it can to hold onto fat because you're blowing through cals so fast it thinks it has to.  I hate the way people with the ideal bodytype for long course racing talk about this like it's simple math.  STFU!!!!!  You have no idea what you're talking about.  Do some reading of the current literature on the subject and then get back to me.

Rant over.

I had the 3 x 800 TT swim this morning.  Nothing like doing an all out HIM swim (ok, HIM swim broken into pieces) at 5 a.m. on a Friday morning  It wasn't as bad as I had anticipated.  The last 800 was a beast.  Z1 ride later today.

We're celebrating Madge's 6th birthday tonight, and then we're heading downtown to see the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra tomorrow night.  This is the first year we're all going.  I've always had to stay home with the baby.  I really hope Freddy can behave for the duration of the concert.  If not, we'll be walking the halls together.

Happy Birthday, Kelly!

Funny text just now from my son - who has been asked to stay home this weekend and take care of our dogs

"hope you touched up the place a bit"

translation - I'm entertaining my "lady friend" and the place is a mess!

I had already tidied up the place after he left this morning, I guess he's worried about it. Ha! I love that kid!
