The good news:  Swam a mile again and the breathing is getting better and better.

The bad news: some jerk off got my account number and cleaned me out.  The bank said I will get it back but there is about a week long process to go through first.  On the bright side, if this happened last year I would have went to the buffett and eat myself sick.  Today, I got mad and went and swam a mile and felt so much better after.......

left.right.repeat - 2011-02-23 4:00 PM Mav - wow- that kinds choked me up. As far as my "you will never forget who greets you at the line". Get your wife/husband/SO to volunteer as a catcher at the finish during your projected time. Unbelievable. We were able to get Al back -Al is Mr Mav - to catch her. Watching that and being part of it was way way cool.

It was WAY COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Having my husband there shocked me...Bryan pulled some strings to get him in the chute. Cetainly a moment I will never forget and neither will Al!!!! Without Bryan it would not have been possible.

Finishing the IM was one of the top 10 moments of my life!

If I had to wait that long I would go crazy.  How about naming her 'Crazy Britney'.
This is probably not helping.  Wait until you see what happens if you encourage us.

Looks like your new bike will be lots and lots of fun to ride.  Is that a Specialized Tarmac SL?

Its a specialized Allez elite comp.

here's a noob story for ya: went for my first bike ride as soon as i got home...i have about 15 minutes of daylight left so helmet on, gloves on and off I go!

First thing i notice is its freezing!! my fingers start to get numb right away, but I fogure im not going to be long so I press on.

I start to try the shifting thing.....click the lever, i hear chain movement and viola! I continue to do this until I'm all out of gears...now what???

I have no idea....i fiddle with the gear thingys until I give up and just head back.

I went a total of 2 miles and my legs felt very different when I got home.

at home it took me 30 minutes to figure out the brake handles shift back in the other direction ...doh!

supposed to snow here in SF so I'm off to Scottsdale with the wife to see my Giants play :D

@Pace - you will come to love paddle shifters.  FYI cables stretch and after about 100-300 miles you will want to take your bike to the LBS for a tune-up.  Go over your new bike and check every single fastner, and make sure it's snug.  Be a shame to have something important fall off.

It's 16 degrees in Seattle this morning.  The sun is out and the roads are nice and dry, but I'm not riding yet.  Something important might fall off, like a finger tip or an ear lobe.  Anyone who can ride in single digits, I take my hat off to you.  Me, I'm ready for warm weather.

Cheers,

Had a great day of basketball on monday. Tuesday most of my pool workout. I didn't make it in the morning and forgot about pool aerobics. Ran for 45 min. also. Wed got my bike and run in. THursday morning swim on my 5th 100m my head was hurting so bad I stopped. Ithought maybe my goggles were to tight so I took them off and waited for a few minutes but it didn't go away. SO I decided to go in the hot tub since my legs were sore. My headache got worse. THen that afternoon I went to use the exercise bike and 5 min. in I had to stop again because of my headache. My hr never got over 126bpm. It was nice and easy.
TOday I tried to run and my heart rate wouldn't stay down. At a slow jog it was in the 170's. after walking and joging for ten minutes I finally gave up. Came home and my blood pressure is about
118/75 which its normally in the 90's/60's. Not sure what to do. tHis has never happened and I have workout for 30 something years. Frustration is starting to set in. 3 weeks in to my training plan and nothing has gone right and this is something I dont know how to fix. I just got checked out and everything was good. ..............I am starting to think its all in my head. I normally train through things but I am trying to listen to my body.........Any suggestions??/

Your blood pressure is not high for someone who is exercising but a persistent headache with exertion is very concerning. I agree with Billy ...go back to the doctor.

You may have an electrolyte imbalance...my guess is low sodium. But this should be evaluted by an MD

Hey all!
Training going okay, just need to get some longer rides in.  Almost 1 month till my first tri (OWS Sprint), 1.5 till my HIM.  Work has been nuts (not good nuts unfortunately).  Hoping to ride today but just unloaded 42 bales of hay then found one of the trailer tires had lost its tread.  Surprised it didn't blow but its a dualie trailer so it just rode on the other tire.  Weather was cold this morning and warm this afternoon and I haven't been able to ride in it!!

Graham - bummer about the bank account.

Phil - go back to the Dr!

Mav - glad the knee is getting better.

TOday I went and watched a couple of my ex-athletes run and then ran with a few of my athletes that also came to watch. Ran 11 miles with them pretty slow. Felt good. I left my heart rate monitor at home but felt good. I will go back to the doctors if things presist. I hope its over. I have been pretty stressed and I think I over reacted. Thanks for your concern.

Today my wife and I woke up with a wild hair you know where and decided to do a mini sprint of our own.  Brought our bikes to the gym.   Swam 600y at the gym, straight out to the bikes and rode a 10 mile route home, once home put the bikes away and did a 2 mile run back to the gym to get the truck.

My time 1 hour 24 m of actual active time. Plus 10 minutes in T1 and 5 minutes in T2 for a total time of 1 hour 39 minutes.
Wife 1 hour 31 m. Not sure what here T1 and T2 times were.

Felt good for the first time putting it all togehter.

Hello LRR Group.
I've been working hard on my limiters this off season.  First a winter marathon, RnRAz, just for kicks.  Now I'm in the pool kicking and flipp'n to become an extra stronger / extra longer swimmer.  This weekend I turned in my fastest 100yds ever, 1:43.  No draft, no sand bagging.  simply pulled on my goggles real tight and swam for my life.  What makes this special is the indoor PR came after moving into a faster lane and swimming 1600 continous.

Life knows no limits, when you tri harder.
Cheers,

Hey All!

Another month of training finished, time for an update.  Only four (4) weeks left till my first race!

I've been incredibly consistent with my nutrition and my workout and have managed to lose 24 lbs. since coming to BT ( and LRR..) and 32 lbs. overall since deciding to train for a Tri.

My swim lesson are in the final week and I managed a 1:58/100m at the end of my last lesson.  Starting putting together the technique to go distance now and swam a easy 500 today.

I had concern's about running because of my weight but following Bill's advice to "Train like a Tri-athlete" I also started the Galloway running technique and today managed my longest run on the treadmill (without pause or walk) of 3.61 miles/40 mins.

The weather has kept me off my bike but I've managed approx. 2 hours a week on a spin-bike and will be adding another spin class starting this weekend to bring total up to 3 hours.

Where I have struggled has been with soreness specifically in my hamstrings and glutes.  I started a yoga class with the intent of increasing my flexibility so I'll see how that helps out.
I've also noticed on my long workout days I am losing energy quite rapidly near the end.  Not quite hitting a wall but just a sharp decline in energy and focus.  I wonder if I should be eating during these workouts (usually 2-3hrs)?

Anyways thanks for all the information you all keep posting, I've been lurking and keeping tabs on the updates.

TTYL

Hi Glenn,
Congrats on winning the weight loss personal challange.

I recently had a professional gait analysis done.  While I am not a heel striker, I tend to land with my foot in front of my body and then pull myself forward with my glutes and hammies.  During longer runs I feel the soreness first in my glutes.

The alternative is to have your foot fall close to your center of mass and the push with your large quad muscles.  It sound like you're a relatively new runner.  Now might be a good time to take a closer look at your stride before you learn too many more bad habits.  Can you watch where you foot lands in a mirror while you're running on a treadmill?  Another option is to video tape your lower body while running on a treadmill.

Something to consider, but you may not want to make any big changes to your stride this close to your race.  micro changes are good.

<edit I had the opportunity to think about this post during my run today.  I'm ok with clawing at the ground with my hams.  My favorite leg is the bike.  My strength in quads is 12 o'clock to 4, then my hams pull  through the bottom of the stroke.  It is no surprise that my run stride is similar to my cycle stroke.  I even catch myself thinking of running with my legs in circles.  Even drills that are supposed to accentuate quad use turn into bike drills.  thats just the way i'm wired.  I'll continue to work on run form and stride, but that work may never be finished.  such is the life of a late bloomer.  end edit/>

Swim/Bike/ and especially Run Happy.
Fit
Sorry for the 2xtra longer post.

Wow Graham 1728, that's a great idea!  My gym is approx.  3.2 miles from my house.  I think I'll try a mini tri sometime soon too!  Good job to you both.
