![]() | ![]() kaburns1214 - 2011-10-07 3:57 PM Kelly - Kristen aversa, karen's obgyn, mother of 3, my age, runner, from a running family. She's in new haven but shes great and with a great group. Her father is one of the top sports med orthos... Blah blah. You'll be fine BUT, and sorry kido, you will not be training 25 hours a week. Even with mama Shaun on duty. Kids are great but they truly do ruin you "me" time. With both Lauren and Alexa, Karen hiked and did yoga until the end, with Alexa she only gained like 25 pounds. Everyone is different but Lauren was born when she was 32 and Alexa at 36.The answer to Jen's question from a few weeks ago as to how I picked my schedule for 2012: http://somerandomthursday.blogspot.com/#!/2011/10/31-and-pregnant.html Be nice to me on this one -- I'm sensitive. Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The fitness you have gained will not only make pregnancy easy for you when it happens, but mean that you will able to get at it that much sooner after . . . we have a woman on masters that swam into the 9th month. She was huge, but imagine how strong she got swimming like that. Nothing wrong with your decision. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Kelly - good for you....I get excited when I hear potential new moms talk!! As a mom of 4, having experienced many different pregnancy and birth issues, I can tell you your plan is a good one. Most of the time you can not plan when you are actually going to get pregnant so your life will just adjust (we got pg with our first on our honeymoon, finishing up my residency, moving, etc - thank goodness we had 9 months!) I was active through all of my pregnancies and gained varying amounts of weight with each - due to different reasons. Your level of fitness will still be there and come back easy. Erica was more the exception than the rule - most people go through their 9 months with little to no problems. Find a good OB, have all your initial tests done, and then go to it! Have fun! I am so excited for you and Shaun!!! |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Oooooh baby talk. I love babies. Most rewarding and maddening aspect of my life on a daily basis. We'd probably be working on #3 if we weren't going to Disney in the spring. Who wants to be pregnant and walk around Disney? Not Cindy and Lord knows I don't want to deal with a pregnant woman at Disney. Kelly you are not being selfish first and foremost. You have personal goals in triathlon and like it or not having a kid will alter your goals, dreams, aspirations, etc. Honestly a high maintenance pregnancy is more the exception than the norm. Problem being the exceptions stick in your conciousness much more. My guess is you'll at least be able to work out at 80-90% of your capacity, dependent on your energy and will power, for two trimesters maybe more. And body image wise it's again going to be a will power deal. The eating for two thing is garbage. You don't HAVE to eat that much. You may want to or see it as an excuse to, but you don't have to. And from what I can tell the better shape you're in going in the easier it is to get your body to bounce back afterwards. Of course I'm a dude so take what I say with a grain of salt. |

![]() | ![]() So I got my Yom Kippur ride in this morning, I'm a bad Jew as I don't do synagogue or dogmatic religious stuff, but I do try and keep a few traditions like fasting on Yom Kippur (though I do have coffee). Other than a day of not eating actually have a pretty fun day planned, tempo run later, but also going to the Yale dartmouth football game with a bunch of friends. Tonight we are going to our friend's house for break the fast dinner, I'm making apple cake and bringing 3 bottles of wine.... Run tomorrow will hurt a bit. It's going to be a beautiful weekend here in ct, 70s and 80s! |

Today I was up at 5 riding the trainer and Alexa came down at 530. Best line I've heard about kids: nothing harder than having kids, but nothing's better. Plus, you never understand how hard it is untilyou have your own.... Of course the some kids sleep, which makes their parents life easier. Also dont believe for a minute that girls are easier than boys. My girls will run even the most active boys into the ground and ask "is that all you got?"..... Sorry just being honest, no unicorns and rainbows fro me, but you all knew that by now.Oooooh baby talk. I love babies. Most rewarding and maddening aspect of my life on a daily basis. I never had sleepers...I was so jealous of people who had kids who would sleep, but my kids are just like me and just don't require a lot. They definitely change your life! Agree that girls not necessarily easier than boys but man, my boy will test every limit possible to see if I will crack! LOL My 3 girls are testers too but not to that point. Good luck Kelly! It would be fun to have a big kaburns meet and greet and bring all the kiddos!! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Kelly - I enjoyed reading your post and can totally relate. My story is a bit different, we got pregnant on accident early on in our marriage. It was the best "mistake" we ever made. A few years later we actually started trying to have a second child, but it wasn't happening. We never did have a second child, even after several doctors visits, tests that were very unpleasant, hormone pills (what a roller coaster my emotions were on those!) and even insemination. I guess it just wasn't meant to be, at least we already had Andrew. So, my opinion, which you can ignore, is - if you really want a baby, don't wait too long. It does get harder to have a baby the older you get. You're still young, and odds are you won't have a problem at all. But don't put it off for fear of what being pregnant will do to your body, or how it will impact your exercise during and after. Any weight gain will come off, and to Scott's point, it's not eating for two full size human beings. You really only need a bit more calories per day. Exercise during - don't overheat, and watch your heart rate. I didn't exercise hardly at all when Andrew came along. However, if I did, he was probably the easiest baby ever. He would sit around for hours entertaining himself. Shaun seems very supportive of you, so I don't see that as an issue either. You find a way to make it all work. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() jsklarz - 2011-10-08 9:01 AM i hate people like your children Yah well, he made up for it when he turned 15. Years 15 though 18 were pure hell for me. Up until that point, he was a piece of cake. Our friends all hated us too, their kids were complete terrors. It all evens out... |
