Woke up to snow in the foothills for the first time this "winter" so far.

I'm sure the balloonists are loving the views at the International Balloon Fiesta at least (but not loving the cold temps).

I don't think you should feel bad for expresing your feelings, Kelly.  Your concerns are valid.  I think the longer you wait, the harder it is for your body to bounce back, but that is just my opinion.  Because you are so fit, your body will snap back quite quickly, particularly with your first baby.  You can continue to do all of the things you love to do as long as you aren't too fatigued or too sick.  The 140 thing is really old school.  I swam up until I delivered 2 of my children, and it was the most amazing feeling - moving in the water while my babies kicked inside of me.  Nothing like it!  Bringing a child into the world is one of the most amazing experiences ever!  Having said that, it is tough.  Juggling everything takes a lot of work.  You've worked really hard to achieve your athletic goals, so I can understand why you'd have mixed emotions about it all.

I had my first when I was 26, and I had my last when I was 31, and there was a huge difference in how my body felt while I was pregnant and after.  Like Michele, I had various issues arise during different pregnancies - bedrest, hyperemesis, sciatica, etc.  I also had to take Clomid to get pregnant the second time around (like Karen said, it's rough on the emotions).  Some of my pregnancies were a breeze; others not so much.

As far as the weight gain thing goes....well, you can control that to some extent.  No, you don't need to eat for 2 adults, but you will be hungry.  Think of it as PMS munchies x 1000   If you're working out, you'll probably be really, really hungry.  I gained 46 lbs. with Conrad (started off grossly underweight tho), 29 lbs. with Margaret, 55 lbs. with Gordon (whoa!....summer baby), and 27 lbs. with Frederick.  Definitely harder to lose the 46 and the 55

I did an 18 mile run today, and felt like crap!  I did 18 miles last week, very similar route, and felt awesome.  Why was today so horrible?

Last week I started earlier, about 8:30am, had nothing to eat or drink before, took first gel about 50 minutes in.  Felt pretty darn good, HR averaged about 152 which is top of Z1 for me.  Average pace was in the 10:20's, good for me.  I walked one hill, the rest was all running.

This week I started a little after 10am, had two big cups of coffee with flavored creamer and toast with peanut butter before I started.  Oh and a pumpkin cereal bar too, I was STARVING!!!  I felt very jittery, which must be the coffee, but I used to always have coffee before.  Maybe because I stopped my body was more sensitive???  I also walked more today, a lot more.  My HR averaged 162, which is top of Z2 for me.  Average pace was about 10:45, still good for me.  The last half I felt sick to my stomach, wanted to toss my cookies several times.  I even had to stop several times to try and catch my breath, I just couldn't get air into my lungs.

Why did I feel so bad today?  Last week I was feeling good about the marathon in November.  Today I'm thinking there's no way I could add another 8 miles.  Very discouraging...

The balloonist love the cold too-it makes it easier to float as they have to heat the balloon air less. Pretty much what I am seeing from my window too

i hate people like your children   My older daughter didnt sleep through the night until she was 4.  She still cant entertain herself.

Yah well, he made up for it when he turned 15.  Years 15 though 18 were pure hell for me.  Up until that point, he was a piece of cake.  Our friends all hated us too, their kids were complete terrors.  It all evens out...

Yep it all evens out. Easy babies turn into trying teens and then come back out of it. SAme for the babies that never seen to quit crying, they can end up being so easy going when they get older. I have had both. Mostly you just have to committ and do it-kinda like tri-ing. Its all worth it in the end

every one has those days, but you are still better finishing the run. You might be fighting something off. Don't judge the race by one bad training day. You will be able to do this.

Spent a huge portion of yesterday watching the Kona broadcast and am now watching the 16-17 hour finishers (then heading out for my long bike).

Lightlly drizzling here all morning.  I feel bad because there is a sprint race just down the road from me that targets newbies as it's demographic.  I think the last 2 years 3/4 of the field has been first timers.  Pretty crappy weather to race in to be honest.

Did my longest ride to date!!! 50 miles in 3 hours with a tri group. I thought it was going to be 30-35 miles like the last couple of rides I have done with them. They changed things up last minute. Got my first flat tire also! It was a great ride, nice people. I'm stoked to know that I CAN ride for that long!!!

Ran the half in 1:58.  I'm pretty happy with that, though I would have loved to hit 1:55.  It was absolutely beautiful this morning - temp was perfect and course was awesome.

Pretty banged up though....most of the race was on a trail and my foot hit a rock around mile 11.  Ankle did a flipflop (arch hurts now) and strained my calf.  I may need a couple days off to let it all heal.  Perhaps I'll dust off my bike

Lots of running to do this winter.  LOTS.  I want my HM time to be sub-1:50 in a year, and I'm hoping that with lots of hard work I can get there.

Thanks for all the support, friends!

Morning all beautiful Indian summer day today. Ran 4.5 with about 10 minutes at tempo. Might run again later today, sooooo nice out and my office is closed for Columbus day (I'm going in due to work load but likely a half day).
