Happy Spring to everyone. The weather here is nice (although rain is predicted) so I hope to get in another killer mt. bike ride this weekend.

So my tri is a mt. bike course, but I am interested in getting into road biking at some point so I could do a regular tri. My boyfriend found this entry level road bike online. Any comments?

PS- gojogo, I will be doing a Masters in Environmental Engineering and Science. I start in June! Can't wait!

that would deff be a good bike to use to get into it a bit more, test the waters and see what you think. and if you decide you either dont like it, or want to get a nicer bike down the road, it will A) not break the band, and B) allow you to get a sense of what you do and dont like for something else if you so choose.

on a side note i on a whim this morning entered an indoor tri that is tomorrow morning. too long without racing! we'll see how this goes.

Hey all...  The knee sucks...!!  But....really...I'm just a big baby...I hate being out of commission.  All in all - it could be worse.  My PT thinks I've probably had a grade I or II ACL tear for a while - need an MRI to confirm - so because of that - the first time I get out and do any "high impact" sports that involve a lot of explosive lateral movements - things get damaged...perhaps torn a little more...cartilage and meniscus damage - swelling...etc.  She wants me to start wearing a knee brace for sports - and hopefully...that'll help keep it from going altogether...    I haven't ran this week at all - but am hoping to get on the treadmill by Tuesday.  I did do a light legs workout today - no heavy weights - and then took the bike outside for about an hour.  Great day for a ride.  I've also swam this week...  I just need the dang thing to stop popping...and "catching" on me.

Nice job on the PR 5k - I think I'll be happy if I can get a sub 24 5k.  I had a 10k lined up for this coming weekend - but I think that's out now.

Great to see the temperature rising...

get the knee taken care of, it sucks to be hurt but will be a lot worse if you mess it up more and miss a LOT more because of it. and the cycling will carry over to the running as well.

the race went well, 2nd place splits in all 3 sports and 1st overall. the run i only missed 1st by .1 of a mile (my tredmill shut off half way though so i had to get it back up to speed, that was a fun moment).

good times all around, and actually a lot more fun than i was expecting.

Nice job on th indoor tri David.  How many minutes were each event?

Take care of the knee, let it heal.  Just think about how ripped you can get your upper body, since your legs are out of commision for a while.

it was a:

10 min swim (650m for me, this doesnt sound right based on my swimming for the past month/the pace clock they had, but who knows)

30 min spin bike (15.3 miles)

20 min treadmill run (3.3 miles). i think i ran into the safety off swtich and it shut off the treadmill in the middle of my run, so i had to get it back up to speed once i figured out what was going on.

Doing ok.  Took Monday off and then life got in the way of my run on Tuesday.  Worked out this morning with circuit training.  I need to focus a little more on resistance training.  Time to tighten things up a bit more.  The inches are gone but the skin is still there.

Things are going well here.  The training plan is progressing without a hitch.  Cooler weather on tap for next week so those should be some fun rides.

so i had an interesting ride today.

had planned on a 3 hour ride that after the warmup had an hour at tempo pace and then an hour mixing tempo and threshold (time trial) pace.
this would have the ride be around 15 min warm up, 2 hours of hard riding, 45 min easy/cool down.

to make things fun it was POURING rain and very windy.

i made it about 10 min into the 2nd hard hour, reached back to grab my flask with gel mix in it, nothing, go for the other pocket, nothing. bottle with HEED is empty, nothing but water there. crap. must have fallen out somewhere along the way. so i turn there, and start to head back, pick up the pace a bit, hopping the time trial pace stuff will carry me back and just planning on skipping the long cool down.

here is where issue 2 comes in, i guess i had slowly been turning with the wind, so for the previous 15 miles i was crusing along at 25mph without trying too hard, so when i turned i got slammed by the wind. oh well, better here than 10 more miles down the road. i started hammering it back. i almost made it.

abour 4 miles from home, i bonked hard. those 4 miles took me almost 20 min to get through.
sooo, when you set out for longer workouts and pack "just right" throw something else in there just in case.

Nice ride David.  I try not to go on long rides though.    I stay out of the rain for the most part too.  Its a combination of lack of dedication, contentment with my current abilities, and my oneness with my trainer.

Terrible!! My knee has me totally bummed! I know I'm impatient - but I really was hoping to be running this week...and that's not going to be happening.  I've nixed the 10k for the weekend...no rugby either.  It's supposed to be raining - so I guess I'll be tied to the stationary bike at the gym for an hour...  BORING!! And...I don't feel nearly as fatigued - guess I need to bike harder.  Running is hard for me...so I know I'm working...  My pulse can get into the 170's or higher sometimes.... On the bike...I can get it to about 140...but it averages around 113 for the entire time on the bike.

I wouldn't be so bummed about it if I knew for a fact it was healing properly.  Making an ortho appt today.

sorry to hear about the knee, but you are doing the right thing by going to see someone.

one the running front, right now (and for most of it), you running should not be hard, its simply about doing to consistently (ie going harder, or running easy will for the most part show the same gains with one putting a LOT more stress on you)

David,  Wow, you are hitting the training hard.  Way to go!!!Surprised   I got tired just reading your post.

Still haven't taken the bike off of the trainer.  Mornings in the 30's are too cold for me.  My legs are still feeling Wednesday's resistance workout.  I'm really learning alot about the importance of varying your workouts.  Just when you think you are in pretty good shape I try something different and find my muscles sore like I haven't worked out in weeks.  I'm hoping that's a good thing and not just an age thing.

Take care of the knee.

Sorry for being MIA.  Got my wisdom teeth removed two weeks ago and haven't been getting on the web much since then.

I unfortunately am also 2 weeks behind in my marathon training for June.  Guess I need to start getting some miles in.

take care of the mouth, that is not a fun time to go through.

dont worry about the being sore, it hits us all from time to time and in diff ways.
u had to help a friend push his car the other day, after 30 sec i was gasping, goes to show we can be in as good of shape as we think we are but try something new and it kills you;-)

I am in some kind of funk.  I am really really tired lately.  I've reduced volume and still feel like crap.  Tomorrow I have a 10K race.  Oh well, maybe a mile into it I feel good and get motivated.
