Are a few of you still going to do the Lucky's Lake Swim on Saturday morning (May 15th)? I have been wanting to do a Lucky's crossing for over a year now. I plan on doing it Thursday and Saturday...... If I get down there in time I would do the swim on Thrusday but no workout for me Saturday Big Big NO No from my coach. I am in Atlanta and it is getting hot and muggy down here.......Perfect training I guess Exactly! I have taken the opportunity the last couple of days to run and ride at 5 - 6 pm. Get use to it because it takes about 10 days to fully accimitize (sp). |

Extreme Veteran 504 SW Florida Gulf Coast | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Florida : Official Thread Countdown! Countdown! Folks, it is H-O-T down here! I live about 2.5 hours South of Orlando and we are at a heat index of 100F right now (3PM). Orlando is actually at a heat index of 103F. I hope things chill out at least 5 degrees or so (I'm not going to expect any more than that). It needs to start raining to bring the temps down, so I'm saying a prayer for a few sprinkles next week. I can't remember May being this hot, this early in the 9 years that I have lived down here. I honestly do not think I could do anything but 'stroll' outside right now. I guess we are paying for our unseasonably 'cool' winter. I have a run to do yet today, but it won't be until about 7PM or so. It should be down to at least a heat index of 90F by then. Good grief! LOL! Well, we're all in this together, so bring on the heat, right?? Edited by shellabree 2010-05-07 2:31 PM |

You actually sound a lot like me. I've titled this race as my "Beat the Heat" race. I'm not doing battle with the clock at this one, I'm doing battle against the heat... and I plan on winning. |

Too warm for a wetsuit Otherwise I have no idea. Lucky's Lake was recorded at 77F as of 5/2/10 (according to the Lucky's Lake website). We've had near record highs for the past week, so my guess is that it's up near 80 or 81F right now... maybe warmer. Bay Lake should be just as warm right now... and possibly warmer by next weekend. The Gulf of Mexico off of Venice/Sarasota is actually 84F right now. Warm stuff! Edited by shellabree 2010-05-07 11:07 PM |

Extreme Veteran 546 Oakland, Florida | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Florida : Official Thread On a "cooler front" weather man here in Orlando just said the humidity will come down this week. Temps will still show in the upper 80's. The last day they forecasted on the news this morning was Friday @ 90. I will be at Lucky's Lake this morning followed by a 2.5 hour ride and 15 min run. This is my last long workout. The rest of the week are short high intensity workouts. I have a couple of 45 min runs I think I am going to park over at Fort Wilderness and check out this run through Africia that keeps being mentioned here! |

It's the humidity that really makes things feel icky. Please report back on your findings. I'm interested in hearing. I keep wondering why they couldn't do this entire race on paved surfaces. For example, I competed in the '09 Danskin also held on Ft. Wilderness. We swam in Bay Lake and the transition area was exactly where FL70.3 is... and we did the entire 5K on paved surafaces (a combo of multi-use paths and roadways) and there was a good amount of shade (more than what I'm used to training in anyway, which is nothing at all). So, they 'could' do four 5K loops or so... but I'm sure they could find another 1/2 mile paved jughandle somewhere so that the three loops could be done on the road and closer to the Disney landscape (trees). I imagine it's Disney logisitics. The park must go on. I recall The Cube saying that he wouldn't do this race again until they changed the run course. I just don't see why they can't do it?? |

Extreme Veteran 546 Oakland, Florida | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Florida : Official Thread Nice morning this morning. Very low humidity here in Orlando. Hope this holds out. It shows 90 for the race on the weather this morning. Low humidity would be a big help. Did a 45 min ride and an hour swim today. Feeling good! Going now to check out Disney and where to park for the morning of the race. Another reminder that we will be doing a Lucky's Lake Swim on Thursday morning if anyone is in town. In addition, I am meeting Dewcubs for dinner on Wednesday night if anyone is interested. I will post where on here today. It will be somewhere around the Disney area. Good lluck everyone!
