kimk - 2010-04-04 7:41 AM I had the best day yesterday! The sweat training with Lauren and Tri Faster was tooooo much fun! We did a lecture first then onto the scale, into the pool for a 45 min swim...I so wish I could remember laps! I want to know how far I went! I felt great in the water. then onto the scale again (have I mentioned I hate the scale?) then Lauren did some math to figure out our sweat rate Mine is 1#/hour or 16 oz of fluid that I release during swimming, then into our bike clothes, I just wore my tri-suit the whole time, so onto the scale again, then on the bike for 1 1/2 hours keeping our HR in z2 and 3. 1.34 #/hour or 16oz/hour for the bike(Lauren lead a great class, gave pointers for while on the rd and also how to train more efficient on the trainer during the winter.  Then onto the scale again. transition to the run, on the scale then for a run it was supposed to be 40 min but we got a late start, I wasn't paying attention to my time and should have gone for a full 30 min but stopped at 28min! 2#/hr or 32oz for the run! I sweat a lot!!! Not that I didn't know this but didn't realize how much more I should be drinking.  It was a great training and I felt great through it all, makes me feel better for my longer races! Followed the training with great family time at the Bucks game!

Not sure if thiswill help, but I count by hundreds in the pool... 1,2,3, 100, 1,2,3, 200, 1,2,3, 300....  If I'm swimming a really big set, I will finish every 100 with site breathing to help me keep the numbers straight.  Just thought I would share.  Works for me.

I've tried just about everything! I will start counting then wonder is the lap I'm on 100 or did I just finish 100, or is it the next lap...then I realize I have flipped and the whole process starts over! I have tried a lap counter and forget to push the button. I have tried things on the deck but I don't like to stop to move it over. I think I am hopeless when it comes to counting! That is why I got the nike ipod for my running even when I was doing laps on the track I would loose count!

OK, nevermind....Wink

I used to really stress about my counting in the pool.  I've been trying to force myself to RELAX in the pool in this aspect.  It is actually helping me enjoy long swims more.  I do try to count in my head but don't stress when I think I may be off by a lap.  That tends to mess up my counting even more!  I know approximately where I should be timewise at 32 lengths, at 70 lengths, etc.  I check my watch and if I am + or - about where I should be, then I add or subtract to my count.
Of course, this probably works for me only because I am blessed (cursed?) to be VERY consistent in the time it takes me to do a lap.  My first 100 is never very far off from my last 100.  This is good that I can swim forever at the same pace...  but not so good that I never speed up.

Happychick - 2010-04-04 2:42 AM After a very long night of trying to sleep through the dang neighbors barking dog, I managed to crush my goal of a 9 min/mile pace at my 10k race this morning! This was a very emotional race for me for several reasons...1)I was scheduled to do this one last year but didn't because my Mom passed away so I knew that doing it this year would be somewhat of a memorial race for me and 2)This is my last race here in Hawaii. I am so very happy about my time and did, in fact, spend a lot of the race thinking of my Mom!
Here is my RR for those interested (its short and sweet...at least MY version of short and sweet)!

Congratulations, Michelle!  What a great tribute to your Mom.  And way to crush that goal!

D001 - 2010-04-04 10:49 AM Challenge Standings: I went to the spreadsheets, in order to give you a first week challenge update. But a lot of people haven't entered their goals yet. So, no update today. Instead, I'll go work on my taxes. Bleh.... As for the SECONDARY (Post Padding) Challenge, well, I think we already know which team is going to win that one. If the teams want new names, let me know. (Or, if you want to keep Team A and Team B, that's OK too.)

oops...soory team I am guilty..going to do it now!

I am also guilty as charged.  I will fill in the spreadsheet tonight (it's a blocked site here at work... thank goodness this site isn't!).  I'm going to take it easy for the first few weeks and then my 20-week HIM training program starts on 4/26, so I'll probably just set my goals on sessions in the pool, running and biking.  Still working on catching up on everyone's posts... up to page 20, I think!

This season of Lost is really good!  I have to DVR the show.  I catch myself rewinding over parts to get the full jist.

Man, I am constantly rewinding it! I feel like if I miss a second of it, I'm lost. HE, HE, HE...get it? Lost? Laughing

That's another reason I don't watch it.  Its been so long I would be lost too.

Lost... best show on TV!!!  Love it!
I've got 12 pages of posts to catch up on.  I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Morning Bill!!

G'morning Bill!  I'm almost caught up (puff! puff!) on reading all the posts.  Nobody post for the next 60 seconds until I"m caught up!!!

I think I may do a 5k trail run near my house in two weeks.  It still depends on whether some of my work friends are goign to do it, whether my daughter wants to try the kid's run this year and how much yard work we need to get in that weekend.

Its so MUCH fun when your kids start racing too!  All of my boys have ran a 1K and my oldest did his first off-road duathlon in March.  This year at the Sea Otter he is going to race the kids XC.  So excited!
My 5 year old LOVES to "practice" with me.  She plans races around our yard.  Last year she did do one race and loved it.  The only reason I hesitate with this race is because of what happened last year.

The kids race at this event is not very well organized.  It is just a large bunch of kids with ages ranging from 3-4 up to BIG.  My daughter is smaller for her age but lots of energy!  Anyway, last year all the kids were standing in one large pack when all of a sudden someone yelled GO.  All the kids started running like crazy, with no real direction.  Some kid, literally 2x as tall as my daughter came up behind her and ran right into her. Totally nailed her.  She went flying through the air and landed in a pile of dust.  All of the other parents were stunned as well.  She was crying so hard she couldn't even finish the race.  After she calmed down, it turns out she wasn't crying because she was hurt but because she was disappointed she didn't finish the race after she had been practicing so hard.  And she was upset that the "mean boy" didn't ask if she was ok.  Leave it to my little drama queen to be upset about that, and not blood and bruises.  Wink

She ended up doing another race last year because there were age groups and she wasn't scared about getting bumped up again.  I'm going to ask if she wants to do it this year - I think the experience would be good for her - but not going to push it.  The poor girl is only 5 and I want races to be a fun experience for her.

It appears that, after an hour or so of reading, that I am caught up.  Happy Easter, A-team!  It was a very busy weekend with family activities and mostly a "rest" weekend from a training standpoint.  I'm headed to the Y for a spin class at lunch.  My kids are finally back to school today after being on spring break last week, so life can start getting back to "normal".

I'm on a taper week, YAY! I'm only doing the swim leg of the race this weekend, but I needed a rest week anyway. Taking a 3-mile run on the treadmill this afternoon, as it is snowing again!

Happy Week!

Happy Monday team!

Sheesh, I'm having a hard time keeping up, too. . . And the last time I checked in was last night, haha!  I think I'll just respond in one post to save time. . .

I have a hard time keeping track of laps in the pool as well!  I try to break it down into smaller sets, but even then if I'm doing 8 x 100, once I get to about 4 or 5 I'll forget how many 100's I've done!  I think that's why all my swimming last summer was open water. . . All I had to do was one big lap to the appropriate buoy and then turn back.  When I got back to the beach, I knew I'd done about a mile (probably more considering I can't swim a straight line!

Tim, what a cute picture of your kid!  I love volunteering at kids triathlons because they are so fun to watch!

Heidi, are you "shoeless" because you enjoy barefoot running?  We had a nice discussion about Vibram's last month, and your screen name just reminded me I want a pair Tongue out

I try to make sure it is fun for them...this is my passion it doesn't have to be theirs, but I do want them to enjoy being active. Right now I am trying to find a way for my 14 yr old to understand if you want to enter a race you need to train for it...not just show up on race day. I don't need her to be competitive but I want her to have put in the "work" to appreciate that not anyone can just do this. I don't want her training to be a job but.....   As of right now I have not pushed the training but bring up the fact that the tri is only a few weeks away and maybe she should get on her bike or even run..... She is on swim team so she get that training in.

You know, my mom's dealing with a similar thing with my youngest sister (who is 19).  She signed up for the Chicago Marathon last year and didn't train for it.  She ended up dropping out at mile 14. . . She even came down from Ann Arbor to do the race, and my other sister flew in from New York to watch her!  I don't know why she didn't put in the effort!  She signed up again this year, but my sis from NYC and I are also signed up so we're getting family shirts made and everything.  Hopefully she'll actually train this time so that she can finish the race!

Not right now Tim.  I took the money and put it to better use for now (don't tell anyone I said that!).

I love my 29'er but I am thinking your right on the 26" but then I might as well focus on a whole bike then.  But next year most likely because I am thinking the AZT 300 next year followed by the GDR in 2012??? - scares me even typing it!!

Are you going to do the AZT 300?  If so, we definately need to keep in touch. This is on my radar for next year.

Completely agree!  I've tried to instill upon them that it is about healthy living rather than strictly training for competition.
