Ok, how do you figure out the BPM of a song? I have tons of stuff from Itunes, but I can not figure out how to use the BPM feature on it. |

Regular 93 Billerica | Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Group, Season 2 - CLOSED Question for the group?? I trying to figure out a couple of other races to do that are fairly local and thinking about the Cranberry Trifest Olympic distance race. This is the following weekend after my 1/2IM and was wondering if that is enough recovery time to give it a go??? Need to decide while able to register. |

Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Group, Season 2 - CLOSED thank you KOM! this is really great. I have been waiting for a list like this for years - no exaggeration. I would wish i had such a list with bpm, but didn't know where to start looking. I would give up until the next time i would think about it during a run. Having a playlist like you describe would be very useful. i also would like to learn how to determine the bpm of a song. Is that something that can be done from itunes? charlotte |

Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Group, Season 2 - CLOSED i would say it is not enough time to recovery just because it sounds really ambitious to me. on the other hand, i just finished reading a book (cannot remember the author's name) written by someone who ran 50 marathons in 50 consecutive days, which would lead me to believe that the answer probably varies greatly by individual and their base level of fitness. no evidence - just a guess. |

I have to agree here. Unless you are highly, highly honed like Dean Karnazes (I'm thinking that's who you are talking about, Charlotte) then its not enough time. But again everyone is different and only you can be sure. How is your training going now? Does your mileage approach the 70.3 distances and how well do you recover? |

Expert 1128 Boston | Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Group, Season 2 - CLOSED Well I finally made the leap! and bought a tri bike. What a difference from the cyclocross bike. Where it would take me an all out effort to hold 18mph, the tri bike got me there without breaking a sweat! Riding in aero position does take some getting used to...and the angle of the seat seems to make my quads burn more. But fun, fun, fun! I like speed! |

So are we going to get a chance to see some bike porn now? Congrats on the new bike, enjoy the ride.
Steve, there is also a sprint race and volunteer opportunities at Cranberry if you really want to be apart of the unofficial New England BT gathering. I know that your 1/2 Iron is your A race, but if you just used Cranberry as a recovery activity, I see no problems other than the wife |

I am bringing into the house tonight to work on personalizing: lights, water bottle cages, etc..... and will take pics then. Thank God for tax refunds or I could not have afforded this bike......then I had to justify why I needed it to the hubby who finally saw my way after a little coersion......I am buying him a SLR digital camera with the remainder. See?....it all works out! |

Master 2146 East Side of the Bay | Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Group, Season 2 - CLOSED iTunes doesn't have a bpm finder. I convert my songs to Mp3 format and run them through Mixmeister. It's a free program that calculates bpm. It doesn't work on iTunes formatted songs. If you add the bpm column to your iTunes display the numbers will appear after the songs go through Mixmeister. Kind of a pain but I have been slowly converting my music library to Mp3. I will try to post a run playlist tomorrow. |

Veteran 280 Glens Falls | Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Group, Season 2 - CLOSED Sometimes I feel like I am out of the loop! Seren-congrads on the new bike. KOM-glad the move went well, Scoqz-you"ll do well with a Sprint--that is what I have reg for during the early summer months--they go for broke with a couple of Olym!! Am finding that training, running our everyday lifes, work and party time (of course) takes up a lot of hours of the day and night--how do you squeeze it all in? Interested in seeing how everyone works their sch. I also spent some time looking at new additions to my bike but after talking to a few bike shop people-decided I would be better off buying a new bike. Makes better sense than adding wheels etc that cost more than my present bike--looked at Zipps--a big OUCH $2000 plus per wheel. A little (LOT) our of my price range, plus my darling wife would think that I have gone completly crazy. So am just sitting back enjoying a glass of wine and dreaming of the day. Actually took a total rest day from working out and found it quite stressful--I miss the work outs but know it's a necessary evil. But am off on Friday and am promising myself--I will Swim!! Getting to darn close to race time and am starting to worry. Although I know it will be alright, I really need to get in the water. Have been pushing my Mom to get her pool open and I think she took the hint so it should be cleaned and running by Saturday. It would really be great for me as I can jump on my bike and ride the 15 miles to her house, swim laps then run and get back on my bike and ride home--best layed plans |

Master 1619 Hingham, Ma | Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Group, Season 2 - CLOSED Wow, it's been over a week since I have chimed in. I am such a bad mentor. But, as always, you do just fine without me. I hope everyone is healing nicely. Now the the injuries have passed, hopefully, finding time to train has been a real challenge. Between family, work and weather, I have been going out at some weird hours. While I don't have the strength to get up at 4am like some folks(Seren), I have been doing some late runs, which is nice in the warmer weather. I hope everyone has a great weekend. |

Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Group, Season 2 - CLOSED i have a road bike, and like swimming and running i am very slow. my neck and back often are uncomfortable while riding - but discomfort rather than persistent pain. i took a tri-bike out earlier this spring for a test run. after the test, i was not convinced that i would be faster or more comfortable. now with our discussion i am second guessing myself. do most of you have a road bike and a tribike? the cons are obviously the extra expense. what are the pros for a slow age-grouper? thanks. charlotte |

I love it. Partly because my bike for my 1st year was a borrowed bike. My new bike is fitted perfectly. The pros of having a tri bike is once you get used to it, riding in aero is more comfortable for long rides. I also find that on down hills, I fly. I pass people like they are standing still, without pedaling. Its very aerodynamic. In all honesty, since most of our aren't vying for podium spots, it's a style thing more than anything. I would just keep testing them and if you find one that feels right, then go for it. |

I, like you did some research on the differance between the two and it came down to what I could afford at the time I had to return the borrowed bike. Thats OK because I got a good deal on a used full carbon road bike that I had refitted to me (I know not ideal) but my shoulders and neck were also uncomfortable. I did notice after the bike fitting the uncomfortableness got better or I was getting more used to riding longer, take your pick. The Tri bikes are a lot of money but you get what you pay for as everyone that has one will tell you. I figure I'll go this season on the road bike to see how it goes and save the cash for a Tri bike next year as I get more experience. That way I will have two decent bikes for training on for next year. I would go with what you feel most comfortable on for some longer rides that way you will still enjoy going for a ride rather than a workout. Happy training. |

Regular 93 Billerica | Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Group, Season 2 - CLOSED Off to volunteer at Mooseman tomorrow, looks like a rain day all day, I got up to go get an OWswim in this morning but the thunderstorms seemed like they not co-operating. I wait it out a little while and see. I don't mind the swimming in the rain (already wet) but the thunder and lighting will have to win that battle. |
