grit_nugget - 2012-06-11 4:15 PM Im wondering at what point I should be concerned that I have only run over 5 miles once since December 2011 due to injuries?!

You could always do a run / walk. Maybe run 2 minutes / walk 1 minuite? It might not be the fastest, but it lets your legs recover more often over a long race.

Cincyman1113 - 2012-06-11 1:30 PM 11 weeks to go, people.  How is everyone doing on training? Anyone doing any long ride soon? I have the Jackson County Brevet century this Saturday. Next month I have the Peachtree Road Race here in Atlanta (10k race) and the AS400 Century ride where they completely close down part of the highwas so we can ride on it for a mile or two at the beginning.  This ride, along with the heat, kicked my butt last year but it was a lot of fun.  August can not get here fast enough!

Got in a solid 100 mile ride this weekend, feeling very good about training so far...except for the usual exhaustion.  I have also officially entered into the constant hunger phase of training.  I feel like I just did all this and then I realized...it wasn't that long ago that I was doing long rides for IMFL!  Needless to say I am happy to only be 10.5 weeks away so that I can get my life back!

Do you have a favorite mantra, song or other thing that you repeat to yourself during tough times in long bikes/runs?  Thought it might be interesting (and fun) to see the groups list...

Cincyman1113 - 2012-06-11 9:35 PM krazytallchick - Cool.  Maybe I'll see you there at the beginning of the ride.  I'm bib #843. Weatherwise, it looks like it will be a great day for riding.  Have you done that Covington race before? If so, how is it?  I got a flier for it in the packet for the Brevet ride. The timing of it would be great for leading up to Louisville.

I will have to look for you as I haven't gotten my bib number yet.  Then again I will probably be hanging with my hubby in the morning as he will be showing the route on the smartboard before the ride.  Come by where we will be set up and introduce yourself.

I did the Covington ride a few years back, they hadn't had that ride for the last 2 years and is bringing it back.  If my memory is correct, the route is not too hilly but it is under sun and heat so it will be a great lead up plus a lot of people do a brick afterwards.

Last year I wrote "You Will Do This" and "Find Your Strong" on my hands and then wrote family members names up my arm.  When I wasn't singing a random song in my head I was repeating each saying and thinking about each family member.

One mantra I like in particular that I say to myself alot on runs...

"I do this because its fun.  I do this because I can!"

Oftentimes the "fun" part makes me chuckle because i'm in pain and having NO fun...and the "I can" part makes me realize I'm lucky to be able to participate.

What is the smartboard? If there is a tent or area for it, I'll be sure to stop by before the race to say hello.  If I don't get to see you, if you see a guy on a Trek bike wearing a backpack, that will probably be me.

This is correct. I believe the name of that hill was Wolf Pen.  Instead you follow the road to the left.

Sweet. What is everyone running cassette wise. I am planning on wearing a speed suit to swim and toying with the idea of a Craft or Desoto long sleeve skin cooler top(I am very fair skined).

Last year I used a standard crank and an 11/28 on the rear and I was happy.  This year I'm going compact with 11/28 and see how that goes.

I'm sticking with the BlueSeventy PZ3TX speed skin and the DeSoto skin cooler tri top that worked well for me also.  Additionally, I put the DeSoto cool wings on in T1 and use them for the bike segment.  They work great if you wet them with water every so often.

Hi everyone! I am excited as IMKY will be my first full Ironman! I just raced EagleMan and the heat crushed my race on the run. I have been told I might not have consumed enough liquid on the bike.

I drank about 40oz Gu Brew and 20 oz water. I am 5'9" and weigh 155lbs. I am not a strong biker and averaged close to 17.5mph at EagleMan. Is this enough fluid intake or do I need more?  Thanks in advance for your comments!

Does anyone have any suggestions for where to stay?  I signed up just after St George and so I haven't been able to plan out a full trip and didn't get in on the on-site hotel or anything.

I'd like to stay clsoe to the race-site, but i also don't want to spend $150/night just for a few nights and total things out to $550 just for the hotel.  It's a tall order I know, but I was hoping those with more experience in this race might have an idea for a cheap place to stay downtown?

TheKid,

Lots of people save money by staying across the bridge (the one that is part of the run course) in Jeffersonville, Indiana.  Some hotels are close enough that you can walk across the bridge on race morning to get to transition.

Everyone's nutritional needs are going to be different. I would suggest doing sweat rate test to see where you need to be. I have one from infinit nutrition if anyone wants a copy of it.

It is trial and error. I messed with mine a couple years ago prior to a race and blew up.

That is correct.....No Wolf Pen Branch, so you just slip around on River Road to 42 for about 2 miles pretty flat the whole way.  Plus you miss this on the way back so flat the first and last 9ish miles.

Just FYI for this group.  I lead group rides/training for IM Louisville with a group from www.iamtri.com   We have a Louisville 2012 group with 530 members all getting ready for August 26, 2012.  We have four group trainings left on June 30-July 1, July 21-21, July 28-29 and August 11.  The three weekend trainings include a Saturday 8-9am swim in the Ohio River "out and backs" behind Towhead Island, then a 9:30am bike of the course (80 or 112 miles), then Sunday 8am long run on the IMKY run course (9-13 miles your pick).  On August 11th (taper) we'll have an 8-9am swim and then 80 mile bike offering (brick run optional after).  We meet at the Yellow Lot on River Road near the IMKY swim start at Tumbleweeds (1201 River Road, Louisville).  Cost is $5/swim, $10/bike and $5/ run some proceeds to charity ............ full aid and SAG the whole way on the bike with water, ice, Gatorade, Infinit, oranges/bananas, energy bars/gu, peanut butter and bagels.  My email is [email protected] or find the group on IAMTRI if interested.  We also do a whole lot of fun stuff around IMKY weekend.

This looks like the best option it seems.  A few of the hotels are around $70 or $80, which is far cheaper and still only a few miles away.  Thanks guys!
