Good luck to those racing tomorrow (Monty and Jaelin, anyone else??)..

I've been crook with gastro all week, not fun! Had my first session back today thankfully cause I was going stir crazy not being able to train. Thanks to those who left inspires during the week, it was really appreciated.

Hope everyone else is training hard and smashing goals!

p.s. Jaelin I'm going to put the pressure on and say you'll crack 55 mins!

well i forgot my wallet............. no usat liscense or photo ID. couldn't race and no refund. (that'll never happen again).

they let me run the 5k and i found $20 in cash on the ground while racing (so all in all I'm out $10, b/c the 5k was $30, the du was $60 and i paid for the du to run to 5k) I won first overall with 20:17 so I'm happy it happened, overall winner of the du was 55 2nd place was 58 3rd was 1:01 so  i think i would've podiumed in that too

Monty, I bet you are already at the race, ready to go or already moving those feet! Sending positive thoughts, best wishes, have fun!

Jaelin, you did awesome despite some difficulties. How random to find money on the run when you lost some. You are not only good, you are lucky too!

Nice job Jaelin, I'd be pretty pissed, but nice job getting close to the 20:00 5k time.  I'm sure normally you'd be able to get under 20:00, but with planning on doing the du, and doing the 5k are 2 different frames of mind.  Make sure you learn your lesson. I've never done that, but hope I've learned from you!  It doesn't help with the ID, but I make sure I at least have my USAT key card that I clip to my car keys. I also have one in my bike bag, just in case I forget!

Thanks Jan, it helped!

Hey Triman!

Well, here's my race results:

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=427536

I ran a 1:45.17 1/2 marathon.  For me this was a harder course than I ran last month so to finish only one minute slower is a good accomplishment I think.

Age group: 46/374

Overall: 482/7020

With the HM, FM, and the Ultra I'm coming up with about 8,900 runners Sunday morning.  It was awesome!!

Now finally!  I can start thinking about a balanced Triathlon training schedule!!

Stay on top of your diet this week so you'll be ready on Sunday!  And good luck!

I might be in the market for a trainer as well, wondering the same thing...

Just put some pics up if anyone is interested in taking a look, not a lot of triathlon shots yet, but that will change over the coming seasons. Smile

Monty, Mark and Marcia, had a look through your albums, all of you have some really great shots in there. Love seeing the peeps behind the posts!

Anyone else going to upload and share???

Hi everyone.

Good luck this weekend Jaelin.

I'm off to a great start this week (touch wood). 2 hard runs, a hard bike and swim too.

I wear the exact same suit in all races so all my photos look like they are from the same race. I can hardly tell them apart myself!

All the information I can give regarding trainers is really limited, as I've only had one, but I've used a few different ones.  I would only say that a fluid trainer is much better than mag/wind trainers.  I use a cheaper one from Performance Bike, called the Travel Trac Fluid + trainer.  It is fluid, but also has adjustable resistance you can add to simulate hills.  I love the trainer, and recommend it. Plus, it's considerably cheaper than cycle-ops and Kurt Kinetic (although both are solid brands from what I hear).  My trainer cost be under $200, as I got it during the summer months. My blog has a product review of it... http://youngenoughtotri.blogspot.com/2011/12/travel-trac-fluid-trainer-review.html

Hi everybody

Sounds like great things in works for all of you.

I need advice!

I am sooo sick. I have had a cough and muscle aches and fever on and off for about a month now. It has now gotten worse. I am in pain everywhere, joints hurt, short of breath with any exertion, constant cough and I can't keep any food down because I cough until I throw up. Fever up 102.8.

I am now on my second round of antibiotics. I have not been this sick since I was a kid.

My tri is April 29. Assuming I get better on this round of antibiotics, will I still have time enough to train? I have not done many runs, keep planning on it but doesn't happen and will not happen now until my shortness of breath gets better.

Any advice?

Jan

Oh, and welcome back Brandon. Thank you for serving our country.

Thanks for the well wishes.

My tri for April is Olympic, Monty. I think I have a pretty good base in swimming and cycling, although I need to get outside on my bike, but my running sucks right now.

I am better today but I am still going to take off at least today and tomorrow, then we will see.

Brandon, I will be joining you at Tinman! That is, if I ever get better!

Best to all of you!

I was going to say a Sprint shouldn't be a big deal.  Anything longer would just depend on your endurance status before you got sick.  Glad you're feeling better!

Just wondering what cycle computers you folks are using?

I just bought a cateye V3 wireless for my roadie but it wont fit on the stem or the handlebars cause the aerobars are in the way and cateye in their (lack) of wisdom changed the mounting from a front slide to a side slide (as a front slide it would have worked okay!). So the cateye is going on the MTB and now I'm looking for a different model for the roadie (not cateye). Been thinking about the Sigma 1609 STS with Cadence, it looks pretty sturdy and easy to mount and a little cheaper @ $80AUS on eBay. Anyone got any other suggestions??

Had another good run today. My times are slowly improving and I feel a lot stronger in the legs. Next event is in two weeks and again I think the bike will be my weakest, so guess who's going to be putting in lots of hill work between now and then?! Can't wait till I get my trainer and then riding on days when it is bucketing down wont be a problem.

Hope everyone else is having killer workouts and wishing you all a great weekend also!
