Well I started at my new Coop job this week so training was on the back burner. This involved a slight relocation to my parent place 2.5hours away from home. This isnt ideal on the family front but it allows me to help my mom care for my dad.

This week I did find a number of important things as it pertains to training. Free indoor track at the community center, free gym at work and cheap lap swimming on Monday and Wednesday nights. My work schedule is 8:30 to 4 which gives the possibility of a quick run or work out before dinner. On the weekends I am back home so the focus will be on the bike. As the spring starts to appearUndecided I think I will be biking into work, its only 18km but that could also be a neat 30min hammer session.

Yep...early birthday present.  I turn 30 today, and since I have plans all day, he decided to do all that yeseterday.

Well, I am off to ride and swim...didn't get up in time for masters, so I'm going to the university pool instead.

Happy birthday!

My plan for today completely fell apart - I woke up and checked the weather and it was -20 celcius (-31 with windchill). I decided that it was a too cold for running, primarily because I don't like running in snow pants.  I still spent lots of time outside, though; I took my dogs for a snowshoe through the woods on our property (although they both got pretty cold really fast); then spent some time skating this evening.  It should be warmer tomorrow (only -20 celcius (or -9 fehrenheit) with no windchill), so I'll run then.

Happy birthday!

I had a great workout today. 1:45 on the bike with hill repeats indoors on the CT, then kettlebells, then went to the gym and ran 45 mins with negative splits and fartleks, then more kettlebells and hot tub, sauna and home.  Really good.  Feel very good.  I only ate 2400 cals but had them around the workout.  I was fueled like crazy.  My back is a bit tweaked.  I need to go see the bone cruncher.  Haven't since IM.  Time now.  Sunday is 2.5 hours tempo on the bike, then some chores and the PACKERS!  Monday is another kettlebell instruction and a run.  Loving it.

Sorry to hear about your migraines.  My bro-In-law suffers from them and I see how bad they can be.  Take it easy on that body!  Do you think you might be pushing it too hard too early in your training?  You've got a LONG season this year.  I know I have mentioned this before but I really think you should look at the IronFit program.  I have been messing around with it over the winter and actually doing it now for two weeks and I find it very manageable.  While I am getting my "time" in, I have not over done it or pushed myself too hard at all b/c i am staying in my requiredHR zone.  I just don't want to see you hurt yourself  to the point where you can't train!!!

And I vote for "The Black Stallion".  That bike looks awesome!

congrats on the new bike - what is it?

For bike computer I have a VDO with cadence on my old bike, a super cheap Filzer on my mountain bike and nothing on my Cervelo P1. I seem to have rampant paranoia so always feel that I am going too slow and must push harder. As a result I DO ride faster on my non computered bike.

Just catching up after a few days away from my computer. I'm also a part of a tri club and I love it! We meet two to three times a week to do various workouts.

I missed my swim workout yesterday and the pool is closed today. It's FREEZING here (I live in Florida, so 41 degrees is like the frozen tundra) so I think I'm going to ride for an hour on the trainer.

I'm sure that people ride outside in 41 degrees, but I don't think I could do it...I know, I'm a wimp!

Tomorrow I'll hit the pool and my VQ class.

Have a great Sunday, everyone!

Never feel bad about not riding outside.  Indoor trainers can be used to get a more efficient workout ...the proviso is that we get outside enough to maintain and improve bike skills.   Some pros are on trainers 75% of the time now, including some of the best.  They avoid traffic, accidents, and get really great workouts.  I do three quarters indoors.  It takes me about 30 mins one way to get to safe roads from here.  I save an hour a weeknight by using the trainer.  And believe me, my trainer workouts are harder than I could reproduce on the road around here.  Hill repeats take about 45 mins to reach the nearest river valley with good hills. That's one way.  At home, I'm on the "hills" after a 15 min warmup.

Migraines - used to have them all the time when I was big.  Now very rare.  I think I must have been allergic to some food or other that went by the wayside.

I am down 2.5 pounds from last week.  BUT, I'm still in the same range I was bouncing through since IM, so next week will really tell the story.  If the downward trend keeps up, great.  Paleo makes me feel lighter and stronger, more energetic and more focused anyway so I'm sticking with it.  Very low body fat now anyway.  I may just have to get used to the idea of being 220 and 10% ....as long as I can pick up speed on the bike and run by getting stronger, I guess I don't really care.Still, I'd like being 210 or lower.  We shall see.  Fun experimenting.

Hey Team.

I hope everyone is having a great Sunday.

Coach - welcome home, looking forward to hearing all about your kick off to training in Southern FLA

Dave - nice suggestion on the bike name, will consider it.

Tim - also a nice suggestion on the bike name, it is on the list. Also, thanks for the suggestions on plans and to go slow and steady. You are correct it is a long season. I decided to lay kind of low today as well after yesterdays stupid migraine, still felt some of the sluggishness I feel from some of the meds I take for them. The medication makes me feel like I am hung over, which sucks because I did not get to participate in the pre-hangover festivities Wink. Anyway, I got some rest, got up and did a slow 30 minute spin to get the body moving and a solid hour of yoga to relax. I also decided to become a Gold member and spent some time building a plan on here this morning. I have almost completed it so it looks like I can check that goal off the list, which was to have my plan set by the end of the month. Right now, my official IM plan starts Monday January 30th. Some of the start up workouts are a bit light for my current level of fitness but I will build on them as I feel appropriate and make changes as necessary. I am just happy to have a plan in place that I can look at every week and measure how I am progressing. I am looking at it now and already looking forward to my first 90 mile ride in May Surprised

Have a great day everyone.

Thanks for the birthday wishes!

We had dinner with my family last night, then spent some time with some friends playing Apples to Apples...it was a fun night, but I stayed up a little too late and this morning training was a little rough...lack of sleep plus my ongoing cold made things difficult.  Didn't get my 35 minute run in, but now that I have napped I feel a little better.  Maybe after the Packers game I can get the run in.

KC- One of the possibilities with your shoulder given the area you listed could be shoulder impingement.  http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/topic.cfm?topic=a00032 Do the symptoms here on this website seem consistent with what you are experiencing? That bike is SWEET!  I would love to get a triathlon bike...for now I have Trek road bike with aero bars.

My goal for this month is to keep being consistent with my training.  I am off to a great start, so I hope to keep it going once school starts up.

Ok, well I am going to watch the game...I am not going to lie, I am very nervous about this game today, given the last time the Giants played the Packers it was a close one...

They were jinxed, all the teams I wanted to win lost!   I am like george on seinfeld just bet the opposite of who I want to win.

So nice to be home and sleep in my own bed last night.  No real fond of the 50deg temp change but nice to be home.

Green Bay had a terrific year.  I'm more than satisfied.  Repeating is virtually impossible.  Too many good teams.

Rode 2.5 hours on the CT at 2 hours @ 75%, 15 mins @ 60% with 100 rpm high cadence and 15 min cool down.

More kettle bells tonight.  Will run a quick 30 mins hard if I can.  Rain today and icy here.  Will have to get to a track.  Bikes 3X Tues/Thurs/Saturday, swim 2X Tuesday/Thursday, run Mon/Wed/Sat and strength/kettlebells Mon/Wed/ and Saturday likely.

Have a great week.

Well I feel like I have been kind of negative with my posts on all my stupid issues latelyCry.

So here is a positive postLaughing - I have put in two solid weeks of training and feel great.  I just need to take it day by day.  I looked back at my logs for my Racine HIM last year for my "peak" training the month before and was just straight up in shock of how much I dogged my training last summer.  It is a miracle I finished that race with the conditions.  It is sad to say it - yet it makes me feel like I am back on the right track, that this is the best two weeks of training I have had in the last year.

This weekend I have two shows so I need to really focus and plan to get my workouts in (and stay married)

I am not a gym guy at all.  Try to do strength workouts in my own home.  I found this one called teh IronStrength Workout on Runnersworld.com last week.  Tried it out this weekend and was completely embarrased as my wife was on the eliptical and saw me completely fail.  I could not complete any of the complete sets that are prescribed.  I will keep working at this, because it has all the strength workout components I like - whole body workout, easy to do at home, light weights, feel like you worked out.

The video takes about 12 minutes to see all segments, but worth it...http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-238-263-266-14177-0,00.html

I can't believe you even do what you do with all the stuff in your life - 2 young ones plus a new one, job, wife, band = CRAZY. Keep up the good work and you will figure it out this weekend. I swear I am going to do my best to get there and see you perform this year!

I have weights and treadmill in my basement and that is perfect for me. However, my current routine is getting a bit boring so this looks like something I could get into.

Hey Team. Just an update on the shoulder - got a short swim in here at the college late this afternoon and it felt fine. I did not stress it out to much - just did 750m to see how it felt and it was good. I wanted to do more but the pool was a nut house and I thought it was better I not push it and hurt it. I am pretty sure my original suspicion was correct and I tweaked it the day before my last swim lifting and doing some crazy yoga crap LOL. I will do a longer swim on Wednesday I hope.

Speaking of swimming, as I mentioned above, the pool at the college was a nut house. Now I know the decision to join a pool about 20 minutes from my house was the right decision. I can swim free here at the college but this place gets so darn busy sometimes it is not conducive to a planned workout. It looks like I will only use the college pool on an emergency basis (like today).

Curling tonight.

Have a great night team.
