Another brick yesterday afternoon, this time a run to bike brick.  It was challenging but not nearly as bad as coming off the bike the a run.  Gonna have to watch my tendency to push too hard on the bike so as to save my legs.  Learning experiences.

Sounds like a plan QD. Speaking of plan, should I have one to you starting at April 1?

Today was a good one. 1,200 in the pool w/ 4 100 yard sprints. I was whooped after that! Done in 20 minutes. Headed out to the gym and put in 30 minutes of shoulders... which were still burning from the sprints.

Next week officially starts my HIM training!

Holy crap, that's fast! Well done!

And yes, a plan starting April 1 would be amazing! Cheers!

My logs will be updated daily, so feel free to check in. I'll probably keep this thread open through race season so we can all pump each other up for their target races and celebrate the accomplishments as well. So far Robbie, you're the only one with a race under your belt for the season!

Keeping the thread open would be awesome! I'm always sad to see a group go just before my season gets rolling. :D

Since it looks like Robbie is the only one with a race under his belt so far this year (sorry if I'm missing someone's race) It got me thinking about what everybody else has planned for the spring.

So what is everybody's early season look like?

What I've signed up for so far:

March 31.  Team Fraser 10K Bike Time Trial.  I did this race last year and it's a blast.  Just a total hammerfest.

May 11-13. Starkermann Challenge

Friday: 5K seed run

Saturday morning:  Reverse Tri. 5K run, 30K bike, 500m pool swim

Saturday evening:  40K time trial

Sunday morning: Duathlon. 5K run, 30K bike, 5K run

May 26th: Island lake olympic tri.

Hey Foggy.  What are your thoughts on IM training programs??  I was planning on starting the BT intermediate 20 ironman plan starting on April 9th.  However I've heard some good things about Don Fink's Be Iron Fit programs but they are 30 week programs and If I started now I'd already be 3 weeks behind.  Any suggestions??

Will not run the 10k tomorrow...

Did put in 30 minutes today.

Registered for Twin Cities Marathon to get some motivation in me and to stop talking and more doing!

Need to slowly ramp up the mileage and avoid the hated shin splints.

Have a great weekend guys!

I ran a new 10 mile pb this morning at a 7.36 pace knocking 14 seconds a mile off, over the moon just need to start believing in myself a little more.

Anckles were a bit stiff from my swim training last night but it went really well too, another step closer to my goal me's think.

Hey all!  I am back and ready to start serious training!  I just spent five FUN (and tiring) days at Disney World with my family!  = ) My first sprint is May 20th (day before my older son's 5th birthday!) so I have just about 13-14 weeks to train.  I'm ready!  Need to work me out a good schedule (with some plan 'B's worked in there, you never know with kids!).  I also just found out I'm going to be teaching 3 days a week for the next 6 weeks so that cuts into my usual planned workouts too.  I'm a good morning workout person, I can do afternoons and evenings, I just need more motivation to get out the door!  = )  At least we have had good weather and can hopefully get a lot of the running/biking done without having to make a trip to the gym.  Right now, I really need to log some time in the pool until I get more comfortable with having my breathing steady.  I'm looking forward to all the challenges!  = )

Took advantage of what Mother Nature gave us today and put in just under eight miles on hilly terrain near my home. Although this was a base run I still knocked off 3 minutes from the last time I ran the same route in September. Felt nice to see the off-season work showing some fruit!

7.83 miles - 1:01:07 / 7:48/mi

Congrats on the accomplishment! The weather is so nice, couldn't ask for anything more.

35 minutes running in the perfect 43 degree weather running along downtown.

Thanks for the input Foggy.  I picked up a copy of Fink's book yesterday and started looking at what I've missed so far in the first 3 weeks.  The past 3 weeks have all been base building and for the most part, look like my normal weekly training since the beginning of winter.  I'm gonna start his plan tomorrow.  What I really liked about Fink's plan is the flexibility and the 10% weekly increases.  The BT plans seem to ramp up the volume rather quickly and I don't want that to be the cause of an injury.

Hey Robbie.  Fink's plans in the book say they are for the full IM distance.  But I'm sure with a little tweaking of the plan it would work fine for a HIM.  In the 30 week IM plan it builds you up to a HIM practice race at week 22.  With a changing the taper weeks and pacing a little I'm sure it would work. Maybe our fearless leader has some ideas about how to change it to make it work for you.

What I like about the plan is the structure.  For example: You know every week your swims are going to be certain days and your long bike is always Saturday, and your long run is always Sunday.

Here is a link to a BT forum where they discuss using Fink's plan for the HIM distance.

yesterday was NEW SHOES DAY! In my now 2 years of running on and off, I've been getting by with pretty low end Saucony's and decided this was the season to step it up. Yesterday I got 1 pair of Asics GT-2170 AND a pair of Saucony ProGrid Outlaw trail running shoes. I haven't had the chance to really run in either of them, so the jury is still out officially. But the Asics feel like heaven on my feet! Definitely hoping those will be my go-to shoe longterm. The trail shoes are more like hi-tops and have a built in fabric heel cup, which I've never seen before. They're also a bit more towards a minimalist sole, so I'll be experimenting with them.
