I havent heard of a race being cancelled that far out, but I suppose anything is possible.

Why dont you try and fit in 2 races.

I would suggest danskin in July and Title 9 in September. Danskin is a bigger race but very newbie friendly. Title 9 is a bit smaller but VERY well run and a lot of fun. Once you do one...you will want to do another. This gives you plenty of time for both.

Erin, I have always wanted to take a chi running class...just havent found one that fits with my schedule. As far as barefoot running BE CAREFUL!!! From everything I have read and heard this can be great or a lesson in injury. Our bodies have adapted to running shoes...our joints have as well. If you do get a pair of Vibrams go very slowly. Dont run for over a mile at first.

I got a pair for Christmas and I have yet to run in them. Thay are very comfortable and I wear them around the house. I am afraid to run in them because I am so injury prone. I have been told to build up gradually in them.

Is everyone ready for Sunday????? Should be great weather and a great time. We have to figure out a place to eat. I am NOT at all familiar with the area. kristen, any suggestions

Erin do you want to carpool?

Joel are you lurking??? Are you running the 5 K? If you do go...do you want to carpool?

Thank you!! Gotta get all these races in while my knees still allow for it!

Also, just wanted to let you guys know that I signed up for the Ironman 70.3 in Lake Winnipesaukee, NH for August 19. I have started swimming and have set up my bike and taken a few rides! I'm glad it starts with swimming and ends with running, I'm getting the worst part over with first! Joel is telling me how people have gotten their nose broken while swimming, you can't stay in the yellow lane too long when you pass someone biking, etc. etc. Guess I gotta start researching this quite a bit so I'll be prepared for the war zone

WOW Lauren...lofty goal to do a 70.3 as your first tri!!! I would strongly suggest you download a plan and follow it. It will help you build safely and be ready for the race without injury. I would also suggest you do at least one sprint so you can see what it is like to have a mass start in the water and what transition is like. You are such a strong runner that I have no doubt that you will do fine with this race but I would advise you to FOLLOW A PLAN...that way you know that you can complete all of the race safely. I would also suggest you open water swim as much as possible. The more comfortable you are in the open water, the easier it will be on race day. Doing a HIM is about pacing and nutrition...alll of this has to be practiced during training. The beginner HIM plan on BT is VERY heavy on the swim ( IMO) but is a good plan.

I would be more than happy to help you with OWS...just let me know

I'm not really familiar with Quincy either   I do plan to drive the course tomorrow after I pick up my bib #, so I'll keep my eye out for restaurants.  Unfortunately, I'm out for a post-race lunch -- my husband and kids will be at the race and giving me a ride home (and I don't dare bring them along to lunch!) and I have a commitment in the afternoon that I have to be home for.  Sorry to miss it!  But I will still let you know if I see any good places to grab a post-race meal/beer!!

I'm getting excited for Sunday!!  Supposed to be 67, holy cow!  I think I'm wearing a tank top!!

My original goal was 3 sprints: DC, Sharon, and something else possibly a relay with a friend whose been wants to bike (she can have it)

SheRox is a maybe. Title 9 i relayed in 2010 and the bike course came infamous so I dont know.  Sharons my only for sure.  I am looking into hobomock (?) and someone suggested buzzards bay but I dont have a wet suit and it early season.

Good luck to all of you doing the half this weekend!

I am going to try very hard to get OUTSIDE on my bike this weekend!  I've fixed my flat (valve issue) and am ready to roll.  I've kind of been in a funk this week - missed running one day, one not so good run, and yesterday I had to drag myself to the gym (but my run wasn't so bad once I got going).

Lauren - way to jump right in!!  I think Mav is right - find a plan and follow it.   The follow it part is what I haven't quite started yet (and I only have 17.5 weeks to go)!!

WOW LAUREN! Timberman is an awesome goal!   I envy your confidence (and time to train!).  I'm excited for you and Courtney!!!    I have thought about an HIM this year but am waffling (wimpy's more like it)

@mav, yes we could carpool but I think I'm not really on the way for you; prob adds at least a half an hour; or we could meet at Wrentham outlet pkg lot.   ?

Getting excited about OWS! I ordered a neoprene cap & booties; Gotta be ready for Mother's Day and the opener!

Hey everyone, Joel here. The last two months have been some of the most stressful weeks. I have exercised one time in the last 4 weeks. I started my last two classes of my MBA and it is the first time I have worked 50 hour weeks with taking two classes (I normally take one a semester). I will be done these classes in 2 months and get back into it to try and get two sprints and if I am feeling good one Oly done. But well see.

I have been somewhat lurking a bit Mrs V. but I got most of my updates from our chat the other day…school and work seriously cramp my training style! Probably not ready for the 5k. I do go to see PT Mike on Wednesday next week. So he will continue to tell me I need work.

I’m trying to eat well as to not get to far behind on my goals once I have two minuets to train. Water intake is actually doing good.

i picked up my race packet and drove the race course.  it's going to be such a beautiful day tomorrow to be running along the water!  i noticed 2 medium hills - around mile 5 and mile 10/11 (which is just CRUEL that far along in the race!) - the rest was all flat or downhill.

there is a map in the race packet that shows some restaurants close by.  the start/finish line are right in quincy center, so there actually are a lot of places to choose from...  i think that "the fours" is pretty good - they have a restaurant in boston, norwell (which i've eaten at) and quincy.  the quincy location looks like just a few blocks from finish line.  they have good "sports bar" food and plenty of beers on tap!  here's the website if you care to take a peek -- http://www.thefours.com/locations.html i'm so bummed that i won't be able to join you for the post-race fun!!

i'll keep my eye out for you tomorrow!  are you planning to meet anywhere in particular before the race???  good luck everyone and happy st. patrick's day!!

Thanks for that update KRisten!    I've got to stand in the packet pickup line, for one thing.  I think mav does too.  Is the bag drop at the High School near the reg table and packets ?

Never mind that, I read the email from the race director; tomorrow morning everything is inside the HS gym.  See you there!!

Mav, that stinks that you are sick!  Hope you're feeling better soon...  A 1/2 marathon is not a good distance to run if you're not feeling 100%!!

Kimberley and Erin - Fun to catch up with you this morning!!  What a gorgeous day!!  I think I have a sunburn if that's even possible in March??  That was a fun race!  I beat my time from my last HM by about 8 minutes, so I'm psyched about that.  I wrote up a race report - the link to it is in my training blog - if anyone cares to read it...

Hope everyone else had a good weekend!!

Hope you all had a good race in Quincy. Sorry to hear you were sick Maryann. Today I went out for a walk the first in weeks. Still don't feel quite right. I also feel like I'm sweating way too much for just walking. Seeing my doc again on Wednesday so I'll talk to her before ramping up beyond a walk.

So glad to see you both, and RedSoxChick too. That race was hard for me, but I'm pleased with the outcome and really glad I did it. The portopotty shortage and lack of showers was a bit disappointing, but otherwise I thought it was a nice event.

OWS Saturday. What time do you think, mav? Anything after 10 am is great with me! Hopk State Park? I have never actually been down to the water there and would like to see where T is usu set up, etc. [If u want to swim @ whitehall sometime (my backyard ), we have indoor plumbing and sandwiches and my husband can sometimes provide canoe escort]

I think 10:30 sounds great. I am going to check it out tomorrow...I will let you know how warm it is!!!

Congrats to you all on the Quincy race. So sad that I couldnt make it...would have loved to enjoy the beautiful day. Sometimes it is just better to stay home and not push it...there will be plenty more races.
