Subject: RE: 30 runs in 30 days - who's with us?TrBeau17 - 2012-10-18 4:41 PM I'd be curious to know for those of your that weren't elite runners when you started the 30 in 30 challenge, do you feel like your slow easy pace got faster without doing anything different? This time, some yes. It's easier to do more miles, but I'm not pushing the easy pace so much. I did notice this more last year and into early this year, when I was running better than 95% of the days over several months (so basically missing about 1 day a month for 5 months or so). What was more important than easy pace getting faster was my threshold pace getting faster, as that's closer to where I was racing at. Looking at easy pace to see about fitness can be misleading for several reasons. One is that it's more of a range, and just moving the effort up a bit within that can still seem "easy", but you'll be going faster because of it. Muskrat is on the right track with his description of the efforts. Harder days can be harder by way of more running and/or faster running. These should be spread out some with easier days in between. Something to learn is to be able to push yourself on these days, but not so much that you can't run easy the next day. Generally you should be feeling pretty good again within a day or two. And you shouldn't be laboring to get through the next day's easy run. |
