Feeling quite thankless because I'm in taper tantrum ... but I am thankful that is because I have a very exciting race coming up which I am doing with good friends. I am also thankful that your race is SOON and you'll be out of the taper tantrum (will that put you in a recovery rut?) Edited by zipp1 2007-11-19 1:56 PM |

Expert 1112 I'm a Tennessee girl living in SoCal. | Subject: RE: Hard Core Tri Corps (Team 8) Thread Like Terri, I'm thankful I get to spend Thanksgiving with her, too. I don't have much of a relationship with my family (VERY long story), so the holidays tend to be very difficult and depressing for me. I'm so very thankful to get to spend it with Terri this year because she really is more family to me now than my biological family. Thanks for always being there for me, Terri!! I love you and I'm really happy to have you as a part of my life. I know Judi said one thing we are thankful for, but I'm going to be insubordinate and name another. I'm also really thankful for this board and all of you. I can't tell you how much it means to be a part of a group so supportive. It's nice to have a safe place where people "get" my crazy notion of wanting to tri even though I don't have a svelte athletic body ... yet. Thanks for being such a wonderfully supportive group to tri-athletes of ALL levels! |

I am also thankful that your race is SOON and you'll be out of the taper tantrum (will that put you in a recovery rut?) Unfortunately, yes. I get pretty severe post-marathon depression. Thankfully, I already have a training plan and goal in place for my next big race (Cali 70.3--Mrs USMC and Bunny will be jockstrapping, YAY!!!), which will help, and I have a LOT of work over the holidays (do more dog-walking and dog-sitting as folks travel). |

Royal(PITA) 14270 West Chester, Ohio | Subject: RE: Hard Core Tri Corps (Team 8) Thread I can understand the post marathon depression--no matter how you do against the goals you set there's always SOMETHING that plays over in the head like a bad record...plus you have so many rest days after a race like that before the recovery training starts (hey, maybe I understand the whole periodization thing better than I give myself credit for) Pretty cool that Melissa and Terri are jockstrapping for you at the 70.3. Nobody 'straps better than someone who has been there or is strongly interested in the sport. Now I'm going to pout since I'm too far away to strap for you |

I agree, these boards and the bonds form over challenges/inspires are a real blessing. I would not have gotten through last week without the help from you all |

Even though we're organized into teams, your goals for the November Challenge are really INDIVIDUAL ones. Therefore, I'm listing the results by INDIVIDUALS this week. If I remember correctly there's no "punishment" for anyone who doesn't meet their personal goals besides I would think a coach's instructions would override personal goals The full details of the challenge are listed here: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp... Here is a summary of the "punishments": At the end of November, your status will be determined as follows: Winners: Anyone who achieves more than 90% of their goal is a WINNER. Winners will add a signature line that says: “I am a WINNER. I won the November Challenge!” Attempters: Anyone who achieves between 80 – 90% of their goal is an Attempter. Attempters will add a signature line that says: “I did a great job on the November Challenge!” Nonwinners: Anyone who achieves less than 80% of their goal is a Nonwinner. Nonwinners will add a signature line that says: “I will train harder next month!” Signatures will be displayed for the month of December. After that, it's your choice whether to leave it, or remove it. |

Expert 1112 I'm a Tennessee girl living in SoCal. | Subject: RE: Hard Core Tri Corps (Team 8) Thread Sorry to hear about your injury, Cindy! Taking care of yourself and healing is far more important than the challenge. There will always be challenges, but you only get 1 body, so it's wise to listen to it and take care of it. I've marked the spreadsheet to indicate you are injured. Dee - I also wanted to let you know that Erin (twins_momma) did check in this week. Her cumulative total for the challenge all got put on week 1 in the Google spreadsheet. I've split it out between week 1 and week 2 now so that it reflects what she's done. Thanks! |

Expert 1112 I'm a Tennessee girl living in SoCal. | Subject: RE: Hard Core Tri Corps (Team 8) Thread Hey team! We've been back from the race for a while, but I'm just now getting on the computer. Terri has already typed up her race report. We both easily met our goal of finishing in under an hour. I was really skeptical whether I would be or not because I ended up having to schlep a bunch of computer equipment up and down 2 flights of stairs yesterday while helping to relocate a server room. I was sooooo tired and my right ankle was really sore before the race even started. I ended up finishing in 55:30 which I was pleased with overall. I went out a bit too fast and I was really feeling it by the end. I did get in a few running segments amid mostly walking, so that made me happy. Unfortunately, my right ankle and heel were pretty much screaming at me the last half mile. I was also distracted watching the surfers and dolphins. LOL I'll type up a full race report later when I get home. |

I've probably done 20-30 5k events over the years, but it's always been walking. I've also done four 10k events and even one 15k event. It was indeed Terri's first ever race though, and I was honored to be able to do it with her. |

Expert 974 Encinitas | Subject: RE: Hard Core Tri Corps (Team 8) Thread Congratulations to all the turkey trotters out there!!! I thought I wasn't going to be able to do one this year but I ended up finding one and I sure am glad that I did. Went home to Davis for Thanksgiving to visit my parents, the Davis turkey trot is on the Saturday before Thanksgiving though so I missed that one. Turned out there was one in Sacramento though today so I was able to hop in that one. I didn't have the best preparation for it but it all worked out as I set a PR and broke my short-term goal of running a 5k under 19 minutes woo-hoo! My official time was 18:38!!! This was pretty exciting for me as my next fastest official time in a 5k race is somewhere around 21:30 (I knew I was going to break that easily though based on my training run times recently). In any case I am feeling very fast right now, I think with better rest the day before the race I might even be able to go under 18:00! I was 4th place in my age group, which I am happy about, but at the same time 4th is a sucky spot to finish because it means I just missed getting a trophy! Some day I will crack the top 3, I'm almost there!!! Now I just need to get better on my bike and learn how to swim. I also finished off my run goal for the month, looks like I will end up going a decent amount over it actually. I brought my bike with me on my trip as well and I'm hoping to get a long ride in tomorrow, so hopefully I will complete my bike goal for the month tomorrow as well! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!!! |
