Dee - like the cutie avatar, and thanks for the Bravo I need it at this point. Getting my workouts in the rain, wind and cold is playing heck on my body/mind.

I'm like the rest of the group, busier than I thought I would be in January, people calling for truck lettering, yard signs, athletic magnets for locker decor, shirts, banners, business signs, theater club signs for the Wizard of Oz play.... What do they think - I run a sign business or something!!!???!!! If it was up to me I would wake up drink coffee with my hubby, plan my workout strategy for the day, blog my Bt'ers, surf the net for way to increase my athletic abilities, and plan out my races --- Then in a relaxed no hurry way go swim a bit, go for a run out in the country, and then bike at my leasure....

Ooooops I'd better get to the work table and get something done now

Bu-Bye....

Workout Today!!!!!!!

Julie - Ok, so yes you beat me yesterday!!! And yes we had a "lot" of flooding and closed roads, I had to go and pick-up my son from weight training at school because all programs had been canceled so kids would be able to get home before all the roads were flooded out. I had him drive home since he has a learners permit, I thought it would be a great learning experience! I didn't realize how scary it would be for me....yikes...it was a downpour, with exteme lightening, and flooding over two of the roads. He did a great job and hopefully he will heed my warnings in his head when he starts driving alone. I said to him - now this is the most water you "ever" drive through, now this road you do not take, now let that car drive through the water first, now go this speed, now wait until the next lightening strike and run for the door to the house!!!!! You think he will remember?

Oh yes the avatar is my sweet "Tribulation Force"! She's a boxer mix and 1 year old, oh yes and a Momma's baby.

Yes, I know I'm supposed to be working...I'm going by now.

Yay Amy for taking up Dee's slack with post padding!  Got my butt kicked at Master's today.  I burned myself out early in the workout and got beat up during the 4x200 set.  Working tonight so no other workouts on the plan.  Back to running and cycling tomorrow.

And yet ANOTHER drive-by posting! I'm still at work. I'll be here for a few more hours, too. That said, I snuck (sneaked?) out and got in a quick swim. It felt horrible. (Too tired and all my little muscles were in knots.) But I did it! (I was starting to fall behind with my Challenge goal, which was unacceptable.)

End of drive-by posting. No time to post glitter tonight. I'll make it up to you over the weekend though. LOL

Good for all of you to keep up the conversation.  Yesterday was a melt down for getting out but today I got in stretching, swimming and running.  I feel tired tonight but good.  The more I swim, the more respect I have for all of you.  I cannot get 100 done straight without my form and breathing going down the drain.  I do 25s and 50s and then take little rests to get my breathing under control.   I have learned how to recover while running, I cannot fathom how when swimming.

Pam, I hope your new books help.  I have been reading some and it is taking a while to sink in.  Managing the work and energy is a real science.

Dee, thanks for the "drive by" postings, they are always fun.

Eric, good job getting out there.   It's funny the two different versions of "Masters Swimming".  I live in a retirement community and "Masters Swimming" has a very different meaning.  I have hope in my group.  I would be totally lost in yours.

Thanks for all the inspirational notes.  I look forward to them each day.  I run and ride alone most of the time.  The notes help me feel like I have a team of supporters.  It makes a difference.

The Queen of challenges must not fail to meet her goal. That's one of those cataclysmic events that could shred the fabric of reality as we know it--unleashing all sorts of horrible possibilities--including a world consumed by glitter

Emerson, that's the great thing about these mentor groups.  When they work right, you absolutely do have a team.  This is an individual sport but particularly during training, it pays huge dividends to have people checking in on you and encouraging you on those bad days and praising you on the great ones. It just makes it easier to get back out there and do it all again. I'm just looking forward to when we get to start reading race reports from our team!

Emerson - I had the same problem with breathing that you are having now. I'm no expert but I found that exhaling through your nose in a rhythm and then reaching back toward your shoulder for that "huge" breath helped me a lot. I'm "no" expert, it is just helps me. The rhythm is - OUT, OUT - HUGE BREATH IN... It may not stay that same rhythm all the time, but it gets me leveled out so to speak, and then you don't feel like your gasping for air all the time.
I think everyone finds things that work for them.

I find that each discipline has it's own breathing rhythm...

Similar to Amy, I breath out of my nose, just about, the entire time my face is under water. When I turn to breathe I take my breath from near my arm pit area. Not quite an eloquently put as Amy, but I hope you get the idea.

I'm working on the same issue in the pool.  Between my lung surgery and chemo, my lungs don't have the capacity that I'd like.  The big challenge for me is to do bilateral breathing.  By alternating sides, you should help balance out some of the excessive roll that some people have in their swim.  You also want to just clear the water with your mouth and then get in that breath. Some people rotate onto their side so they are breathing towards the ceiling as opposed to breathing in a horizontal plane just above the water.  The bilateral breathing fits best when you do something similar to :  breathe right while right arm moves, left arm, right arm, breathe with left arm movement...and then reverse...so you are breathing every 3 strokes.  That also helps build your lung capacity better than breathing with every right arm stroke which is what many of us, including me, would prefer to do.

Off to spin and lift....Have a wonderful friday!

Ok as everyone can see by my avatar ---- "I WANT TO GO BACK TO THE BEACH"!!!!!

I'm already tired of the cold/rain/wind.

That's my son and daughter when we went to Ft. Walton in August. I am jealous of all you people that have the warm sunny weather most of the year.
