Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I honestly don't know how liquor post race doesn't make people want to puke! Which reminds me at the Chicago Mary we had liquor offered multiple times ... 1x was pabst beer with a guy near him with a sign that said "don't your pants", ha,ha ... Then jello shots at mile 26 |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Short recap of Chicago: great race, another bad result ... But I finishedSigned up for the 5:45 pace group, pacer was running us about 1 min/mile too fast. Pacer dropped out at 2 mile to hit the porta potty and asked me to take over pacing (I was the only one with intervals going on my watch- I had never done this before). I paced for the next 6 miles. My GPS was not working and neither was my HR monitor... ! I was also running the pace group about 1 min/mile too fast - so about 4-5 minutes too fast by 5,6,7 miles. My group was thrilled, but I told them that wasn't good and kept trying to slow us down. Pace leader got back at mile 8, thank god! Because of the pace, I blew up at 9. Walked to get myself back into it, then battled foot and calf cramps for the rest of the race. 6:17:34, about a 5-6 min PR, but still not a good race for me.Changes: no stomach problems. Fuel belt with only water and grabbed Gatorade at aid stations, also took immodium in the am. No quad pain, bought a pair of Cw-x shorts the week before to stabilize the quads, worked awesome! (yes big risk wearing something new) Was running out of endurolytes during the race, opened the caps and dumped the powder directly on my tongue, worked faster and used less. need to try something else for the cramps or figure out whats causing them.Since I was raising money in the name of my nephew Lex, I gave him my medal! He is the one n the pic, awesome little guy. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Blowing up at mile nine and still finishing is a testament to you Carrie.I'm waiting for the sun to rise so I can get a short but fast ride in. Then we have a trip to the pumpkin patch and soccer on the schedule. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Cute polar bears. I want a couple of penguins. Also love the bottle opener medal! Sounds like my kind of race! Hope you have a fun day. X2 with what Scott said - great job finishing Carrie. That's determination! I'm debating on indoor spin class that starts in 30 minutes, or riding outdoors today. I think I'm going to head outdoors. It's supposed to be a beautiful weekend here, probably last one before it gets really cold. I should ride outdoors. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() great job Carrie. Heading down to Moab this afternoon. Hopefully dinner at the Moab brewrey and then race tommorrow. Thanks everyone for the enocouragment. I will report results (maybe not my time) later Sunday |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Just got back from Hartford Half Marathon. I Didn't see Kelly. And I have not even been able to catch up on posts. Got in yesterday afternoon from Disney. Legs were pretty spent by Thursday. I'll post report later but run went well. Course was long at 13.39 per the Garmin, and spoke with others who had it at 13.37 to 13.41. Anyway, at that distance, ran a 1:41:45 per my Garmin, with a 7:38 pace. Pretty happy with that. At mile 4, I suddenly had IT band issues, and outer left knee issues. At times, they burned, at times, they disappeared. Overall, happy with results and happy with my last three miles averaging 7:11 pace. I'll catch up later. Need to unpack and cut the lawn. Yay!!! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Jeff....awesome job! Nice! I can't believe you ran a half the day after getting home from Disney...LOL |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Kel and I are back from Hartford (following a post-race trip to Lululemon and Chipotle) and both had decent races.
Kel ran with Jeff-y for the first 6 miles until she dropped him like a ming vase. Kel finished in 1:46 (with 13.3 on the Garmin) with Jeff trailing in around 1:52. I started out nice and easy and dropped the hammer around mile 11. It felt so great to just run through the crowd at the finish. Finished in 2:35 with 13.25 on my Garmin. |

The "problem" is that there are lots of turns and lots of people, which makes it really hard to run the tangents, which is how the course is measured. Jeff R. -- Next year apply to start in the "fast runners" corral, which will be for people who have a sub 1:45 half. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() kaburns1214 - 2011-10-15 1:48 PM Nice work Kel Jeff-y and Shaun. Other than Park St the course was nice. Some homeless guy yelled to some girl in front of me: "hey girl in the blue, I got my eyes on you when you're done". That prob made her run faster. For the record it was 13.31 not 13.39 on my Garmin. I do understand what you are saying though Kelly. Thanks for thinking I am fast, appreciate that, but it's never fast enough is it. We always want more. rizer22 - 2011-10-15 12:02 PM Just got back from Hartford Half Marathon. I Didn't see Kelly. And I have not even been able to catch up on posts. Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Oh, the one sign on the course I remember most was held up by some young girl and her family. It read: "In our minds, you're all Kenyans". Interesting. |

You have talent and you've only been doing this for a year. You still have lots of room to get faster. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Finally back home and in front of a CPU. 35 miles this morning in around 1:35. Felt really strong cruising at around 20 mph. The pit bull that chased me for a while was a nice "interval". Soccer game today was boring. Reagan's team is so bad. We lost 2-1 and the other team scored all 3 goals. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() That's some fast racing! Nice job. I did a 2 hour ride today, and it was so beautiful out. A little windy, but felt great to be outside on the bike. I added a couple of big climbs. I've gotta say though, not used to spending that much time in the saddle anymore. I wanted to keep going but really had to get off that seat! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Kelly, I just read your recent blog post about your meltdown. I don't know anyone more dedicated and committed as you are right now. You have no reason to discount or doubt your abilities. You inspire many if not all of us and I am sure most of us would agree that we'd like to have your mental toughness on race day. You did great at IMLP, I can only imagine you'll do much better at IMFL. Based on what you've said, it's a more Kelly friendly course. Can't wait for the report. Still trying to understand you riding 211 miles in one week, plus run and swim. Unreal. |

![]() | ![]() Got back from Tampa at mindnight Friday, up at 5 AM to get the Hartford HM. 2 days of bankruptcy conferencing plus the requiste "networking events" (including a pirate party on thursday night) left me feeling like i should just not bother, but i will never voluntarily skip a race i signed up for. Besides, we are endurance athletes. if youre drunk the night before, wake up and run. If your tired, wake up and run. My goals for the race were to neither stroke out nor puke on Kelly. So despite feeling like crap, i ran with Kelly for the first 6 miles at a nice 8:3X pace, at about mile 6 we crested a small hill and burned down the otherside and kelly stepped up to about 8:00. No way i was holding that pace... so i settled in behind some nice pace booty (curvy redhead to the left of me, perky brunettes to my right [Sara and Tracy who kept telling each other "great job"] not bad to be stuck in the middle). FInished in about 1:53, which is a PR for an HM for me. Glad I did the race, felt much better afterwards. First race in a while where i did better than i expected. Will do an easy ride at some point today, then back on plan tomorrow. Afterwards, we got some food then went and found shaun and ran the last half-mile or so with him. Kelly looked very good and in control and finished in about 1:46. She's going to kick some tail at IMFl. |

Jeff-Y, great job on the PR, hungover!! I love your honesty!! And thanks for the comments. MRI scheduled for next week. I can't even get a swim stroke in with that shoulder. It's still killing me from the accident, and PT is not helping too much. Ughhhhh. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Kel and I went to do the Tour de Shore this morning and there was a flyer for a time trial I might actually be able to win.
CCNS is putting on the "Donut Derby" (a 23 mile TT) where you get 90seconds taken OFF your time for EACH donut you eat. Rudy, you might be well-suited for this one. http://www.bikereg.com/events/register.asp?eventid=14197 |
