Here is a shot of the race course at mile 5 when it was still mildly down hill-beautiful scenery the whole way

I am still struggling to decide on REV3 Quassy HIM, or Timberman later in the season. That'll give me more outdoor training, and allow me to do the REV 3 Olympic before attempting a HIM. But, REV 3 is also close to home, at least 90 minutes away instead of 4 hours away.

I've looked at some of the HIM plans on here, and with those demands, I am not sure I have the mental toughness to put that kind of volume on a treadmill and indoor trainer.  Will start biking again in November on the trainer.  For now, just enjoying the mountain bike on the weekends.  I feel I developed a decent base this year, and shouldn't lose too much of that with a little break for a few more weeks. Not a full break, just light volume.  Fortunately, diet has been strong, even at Disney, I held up pretty well.  Halloween, Thanksgiving and Xmas will be a good test for diet. Although, I don't really have those strong cravings for garbage anymore.

What about FIRMman (Rhode Island in September)?

Thanks everyone.  I really appreciate it.

I don't know if this has been mentioned in the news since I can't bring myself to read the articles.

Unfortunately, fate is not without a cruel sense of irony.  Dan only started 3 races this year for lack of sponsorship but, during the rest of the season, he was the test driver for IRL working with their designers on the 2012 car structure and safety improvements.

One of the enhancements that he was testing for 2012 was the addition of a side and rear body fairing to prevent inline wheel-to-wheel contact.  Inline contact causes the trailing wheel to grip on the other car's spinning wheel and send the trailing car airborne.

Dan had tested the very enhancement that would have kept his car on the ground in the final race before the change is implemented.

I've seen references to him being a tester for the 2012 cars and the safety improvements...that is a terrible twist of fate for sure.

Artist - 2011-10-16 6:32 PM I finished and got my cool finisher medal. I ran like a granny (OK I am one). finished in three hours. I know very slow, but considering I have not really put in much time training for distance I was pleasantly happy. Killer course with a hill that started at mile 6.5 and did not end until mile 8. then many rollers until mile 11.5 and then finally a nice down hill cruise. then flat to the finish appox 1/2 mile. I struggled with nausia about mile 5-7. did a shot block at mile 5 and then one at mile 8 as well as gater aid at 7. Calf held up well and so did my knee. Had nothing left at the end so I guess I was definitly undertrained.  But I finished and was not where close to last.

Great on you Terry!!! That is awesome news!!!

So sad ... I was shocked to find out he was even fully funded ... but even more so about his helping with safety ... maybe they will make some major improvements to keep this from happening again

I want to set up some heartrate zones for the winter.  I'm participating in a 5k race on Nov. 5., and I'm going to use my monitor.  Do I use my average heartrate for the race to set up my zones?  It will be a flat course, but it will be very, very cold here by then.

You're going to use the average HR for the second and third miles to set your LT.  Then you set HR zones from there.  I need to find the article explaining exactly how to do it.

So rumor has it they're going to change the run course for this Sunday by taking the off road section out due to the drought.  Not sure how I feel about this.  It does take almost all the hills out of the run making it easier per say, but I like hills.  Also makes it a 3 loop course which I don't like the idea of a 2 loop course let alone a 3 loop course.

I can do some searching, too.  I'm just lazy.  LOL  I'll just hit the lap button once I hit the second mile and go from there.  Thanks, Kelly.

3 loops?  Ew.  I'm surprised they're changing it the weekend before the race.

I'm surprised too Jen.  Maybe they were hoping for some rain.

By the way Kel.  Some buddies rode the IMTX course this past weekend.  About 30 miles of chip seal out there.  Hope they repave that before next May, not that I have that much confidence in the Texas Highway Works Department to do so.

Its WTC.  Shouldn't be a surprise that there are changes -- look at Poconos 70.3.  Although I believe Longhorn is (or maybe was) a Keith race and Keith is a solid RD.

what does "drought" have to do with them deciding to change the course? Dirt is dirt, it doesn't become a different dirt due to no water. And living here in the desert the past 16 years has made me an EXPERT at dirt

Very tragic story.  I did not follow Indy racing, just a little Nascar because my husband watches it.  So sad...

Up early for a little TRX and a swim.  This is a rest week, then 2 weeks of taper and then IMFL.

Morning, all!

I was up early for some Power Yoga, and then tonight I'm going to the gym to ST legs and swim a quick 1200 meters.  My focus for the swim is improving my flipturns.  Got to fix the problems before I join the Master's team this spring.

Have a great day.

Got a definitive answer on the course change for this weekend over at ST.  Looks like 3 loops instead of 2 and all paved.

ok...way, way sore from the yoga.  I had no idea 44 minutes would kick my a** like that.  No lifting for me tonight.  I really liked doing it though.

Do you think it would be more beneficial to do the yoga twice a week, or ST legs at the gym twice a week?  I like the yoga better, but I want to make sure my acitivity makes me a stronger triathlete, because like all of you, I'm time crunched as it is.

**edited to add that I can't do both.  No time.
