Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() left.right.repeat - 2011-05-21 1:02 PM A couple other things on the bottle. I cut firm straw down in the bottle so the only thing out the top is the floppy tube. And my tubing is MUCH more flexible than that in the pic. But that is preference. Hmm, the picture must be deceiving as the tube is very flexible. It bends in the wind easily, any more flexible and it would flop over. When I am in aero I barely have to tip my head and I can drink (without using my hands). I might try posting a different pic if it would help. Edited by GaryRM 2011-05-21 2:58 PM |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() phildampier - 2011-05-20 9:58 PM Nice report!! Why two different size tubes? Thanks! As for the straw, it was exactly what LRR said. Base to attach the plastic straw and a smaller one that is easier and a little more flexible) then the bigger straw. As for the lengths of the tubes you will need to adjust per your preference. Just like what LRR said mine is set where i could leave it in my mouth. |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks guys for all the info. Now I just need to order a bottle. I did my first olympic tri on saturday. It was a club event and only about 8 or so people showed up. The club is only a year old and it was their first club oly. tri. The swim was good. I started after everybody since I figured I would be the slowest and was using the orange caps to sight off of. I passed a group in the first 400m or so. I was then looking for the rest to sight off of but I couldn't see them. I knew I was swimming to fast but it felt so easy, as it was my first swim in a wetsuit. It went through my mind that wow I am in first now I know I am going to fast. As I near the turn around though I see two others coming my way. I finally see the a paddle boarder to sight off of. Then I realize he is to close and look to my left and see the dock we are suppose to touch. oops. I get about 1/2 way back and my right calf wants to crap even though I am not really using my legs much. I see the beach so push to beach. As I come out of the water some guy says about 30 min. Now I am thinking either it was short or I am in big trouble. The fastest 100 I have done was the day before 1:54 and now I ave. 2 min. Transition 1 was like I haven't practice. Took for ever there and calf cramping while trying to get the dang wetsuit off. THen I put the helment on before my riding jersey. Then I spill things everywhere. As I exit I have my first clip in fall...I just start laughing as somebody passes me. Bike course was hilly never really get a chance to get in a rythmn. My goal was just to get the bottle of gatorade in me and stay in my heart rate zone. That was hard since I could watch the others pull away and those behind me catching me at each turn around point. I did pass the guy that passed me around mile 3. On the last lap I pushed the top of the hills. Transition 2 In and out no problems. ???The lady said it was the fastest of the top 3. On the run. I knew they were way ahead and that one person behind me was a fast runner so on the way out I again just stayed in my heart rate. I passed one guy to move into 2nd but the leader was way out there even though I was faster. I pushed the way back to try and stay ahead of every one else. WIth just over a mile to go my left big toe nail came off. I had ripped it a few weeks ago but was keeping it together with a band aid which fell off during the swim. I started to hobble but made myself run right and I would deal with the aftermath later. I ended up second and not that tired afterwards really. They still haven't sent out the times and stuff yet but I figure it was about 2hr. 40min. for a hilly run and ride. I know the run was longer but not sure about the bike. I need to down load my garmin. Overall I the only thing I would change is the first trans. and why I would get a cramp. No problems after drank a bunch of gatorade. Maybe not enough sodium. I don't use much so maybe I was low. |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thank you everyone. Next is trying to survive this week without many changes and since its the last week of school all the stress and things that go with it. So far so good except I was so tired I didn't realize my garmin fell on the ground and I drove over it. Now its in three pieces. :0( Needless to say I went to bed way early that day and feel better now. I need to go buy the tri one now. This mornings 3000m swim went good. 72:35. I felt good at the end so I am sure I could have made it the whole 2.4 distance at about the same speed. 1st half 36:30 2nd 36:05. I am not going to break any records but I should make the time limit. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Phil, great report and FANTASTIC job!!!!!! Sorry I'm not very active, just plugging along in my HIM training and trying to stay upright the rest of the day.... 2 small kids, house, cooking, cleaning, and now a semi-truck worth of dirt in my front yard (my roses will be happy when I'm done).. I fall into bed at night and I'm lights OUT! Only 7 more weeks of getting up at 4:30 6 days a week ![]() ![]() Gary and LRR, question about the flexible tubing for the bottle... where do I get it? I'm about to order the bottle from trisports, can I get flexible tubing from a tri site, or where do I go? My rides are going on 4 hours as of next weekend, so I need to figure out my liquids storage situation pronto. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Lena, I got mine at Home Depot, for some reason Lowes didn't have what I wanted. Take the straw with you so you can test for the correct sizing. Pretty much any of the big box hardware stores will have it. The other day I finally put on my new Wheel builder cover on my bike and replaced the front tube with a latex tube. The combo worked fantastic and had a great ride. Will put on the latex tube on the back soon. As you can tell I am not above buying speed! Have to work on my bike handling a little more. Went into a hairpin doing about 21mph. Rode thru it but it was a bit nerve wracking seeing the guard rail fairly close. On the way back I took it a little slower and just tried to accelearate out of the turn. No need for caffiene after that one. Obviously I will never make a pro cycling career feasible... |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Lena - x2 on home depot....taking the straw is a great idea - good job Gary. All - if you have carbon wheels you need different brake pads....so they won't ruin the wheels. Latex tubes - be careful airing them up in the heat...they can expand and pshhhshhhht...or whatever that sound is Racing (well, doing) an Olympic this weekend....it is not going to be pretty...supposed to be very hot.... |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() As most of you know, I always raise money for a charity in conjunction with Ironman....this year I have joined Team Blazeman....I will roll across the line at IMAZ....I cannot wait....Jon Blais was one of my inspirations in doing an Ironman....also, I have a co-worker whose son has ALS so there is a close personal connection too. But... I am doing something else too that I wanted to share with you all.....I want you to take a few minutes....right now...and do this.....go to www.beadsofcourage.org - go to Information and watch the CBS Sunday Morning segment....this is a REALLY REALLY cool group. After you watch it, and wipe away the tears, let's talk about what we might do as a group (if anything). I am carrying my first beads this weekend in my triathlon....then they will go back to the organization and be used to honor a child going through a treatment....I think this is cool and think you might too. If you are interested in getting involved, I have details and some ideas....I have been talking to them for several months...these people are cool. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey all! Got a nice ride in this morning and am still loving wheel cover. Very nice. One note: Folks: Even bike shorts wear out. Keep an eye on them and replace them as they wear out. This morning I catch up to a couple on their bikes, she is wearing bike shorts and as they round a corner and go into the sunlight I get much more of a view of her then I think I was supposed to. MOst of her shorts were see thru except a section that made her look like she was wearning a thong. A bit distracting but wasn't sure how to tell her so I just passed them, said "great morning", and kept riding. LRR - Have a roadid but will check the other. Will check the bead site also.

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey Everyone! Sorry I haven't been around lately but I'm back now!! I'll have to read through posts and catch up. My best friend's husband was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in January and I just had to be there for her and her family. Her daughter is 12 and she stayed here with my family a lot. He passed away at the end of April. I'm so glad that I could be there for them...my training took a hit but being there for them was WAY more important. Now my friend's son (he is 23) wants to train so that in a few years he can complete an Ironman to honor his stepdad. I took him to get fitted for running shoes. He has been working out everyday. I did get a finish line in. I did the Indianapolis mini marathon. It wasn't so pretty because I've had shin splints in my right leg. I've been to the dr and he has exercises for me to do and I've just been basing my run training on pain. Anyway my friend ,DJ, had signed up to train and run the mini but when her husband was diagnosed she dropped everything and was literally by his side 24/7. The mini was the weekend after her husband had died. DJ and her daughter came to Indy with me and we spent the night with my brother. They both came downtown and watched the race. They had a great time! DJ really didn't feel like doing anything but I pretty much made her bring her daughter and go with us. She was really glad she went and is excited about running it next year. There are days when she doesn't feel like going on but she does and I'm proud of her for that! From some of the posts I've had a chance to read it looks like we have quite a few finish lines! Awesome!! LRR what a great cause you are racing for...I know all about John Blais! Very inspiring! Also, I'll check out the beads. Gary...didn't you know that there is a new line of tri shorts for women?? They also make them for men as well!! ha ha ha |

Regular![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hello all, Sorry i've been MIA but going thru some personal issues here. I wont bore you with details but it affect my training of course. I'm trying to continue to get some training in, but when i'm alone with my thoughts things go south for me On a "trying to be positive" note, I recieved my Skechers gear today. A pair of the ProSpeed SRR shoes, a few tri/running/bike tops and a pair of tri shorts. Very cool to get free stuff Anyway i'm going to try and focus on an upcoming half marathon, then look for some tri's I hope all is well with the group. Jeff

They also make them for men as well!! ha ha ha LRR - Hope you are right! Those are simply not fair in a race as I would never pass a woman on the bike. On the other hand if she is fast I would not mind coming in 2nd on the bike! Would be sooo wrong on men. I suppose Billy already has a pair! Pace - Hang in there bud! It it would help the entire group could get pairs of these thong bike shorts and post pictures for you! Actually I probably won't because if there was ever a perfect example of cruel or unusual punishment that would be it! |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() CapTexTri done. Wicked hot. Wicked humid. Wicked windy. Result- a medal and one tired hombre. This is an Oly I have done 4 times. I think they are lengthening the course or I am getting older. Dang it was hot. I baked on the run. They did have baby pools full of ice water at the finish for a do it yourself ice bath. And with your medal you got an icy towel on your head. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() LRR - Congrats! Its going to be a hot summer here and not sure I really want to race in this. Nice job getting it done. Went for a quick swim and my son used my iPhone to video me. Nice quality but it jumps a bit. From what I can see I am reaching too far before my hands go in the water, I am over rotating my head (can see both eyes), and bringing my hands too close the to the center line. I don't cross over but need to straighten them out some. May be I will post one on youtube for everyone to critic. Took yesteryday as an SRD but worked hard around the house. 8 hrs of sleep and a 15 m ride this morning. At the end I was tired, not sure why. Only swam 800m at lunch but just could not muster anymore. Now I am feeling tired. Not sure if I need to adjust to the heat or what but I feel worn out. If I had time I would try to nap. Later! |
