My bike apparently left IL at 4:22 on Thursday according to UPS and there have been no updates since.  WTF UPS?  Don't you know I am NOT a patient man.....

Great to see all the racing going on....I have to go back and update finish lines.....How many finish lines have you each had this year....

I rode Tour de Cure last weekend - it was hot by the time I finished....it has been over 100 several times already this year...August is gonna be brutal....we need to start praying for cool weather for our folks doing IMLou....you all need to start monitoring sodium intake and liquid intake now so you will KNOW how to nail it on race day.  Really pay attention on hot days....if you haven't done sweat tests on a hot day - do it when you get one....this WILL make a difference on race day.

Mav - I have to learn how to post pics but you know there will be bike porn.....

Hey All,

I've posted a race report for my Try Tri today.  To say this performance was a disappointment would be 'understatement of the year award recipient'.  I made some pretty fundamental mistakes today that I and looking forward to correcting for my next race (two weeks away).

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=256163

Worse thing was that these mistakes were so easy avoid, I was kicking myself all the home (3 hr. drive). I got home and reviewed the overall results and realized that with all my mistakes I did some things well.  I can fix the mistakes. And it was my first real Tri.  Gotta cut myself some slack and get back out there tomorrow and keep training.

Anyways thanks for listening,

Glenn

CONGRATS GLENN! YOU ARE A TRIATHLETE!!!!!

Dont be so hard on yourself...sounds like other than the swim, you had a great race. As for the swim, you broke the "Bryan/LRR" #1 rule of racing....NOTHING...ABSOLUTELY NOTHING NEW ON RACE DAY!!!!! The feeling of a wetsuit is very different and you really need to be  a little aware of that "tight feeling". Add the newness of the suit to an OWS/race and your heart rate will soar. Way to hang in there and get through it! You did a very good job. You pushed through the bike and then were able to run so that no one passed you. Strong work. Cant wait to see how you do on the next one!!!

My race on sat. went good. Tried a new bottle, tri suit, and goggles and managed to get away with it. THe tri suit felt great, the bottle had an issue. I its the aqua cell bottle so it has two straws and chambers. I guess one comes out because it slid up several times and I had to hit it back down. I guess I will have to tape it down or something. I forgot to put the tubes I cut for it on the straws but I was still able to drink. The race report is here  New link maybe this will work!!!

Good job Glenn. You finished and gained experience. That is the most important part when you are first starting out. Nothing can replace actual race experience.

Gary, I'm in!!!!!!!!! Sounds like a lot of fun!!!

So, just to clarify... the competition goes for 2 weeks? And only outdoor rides count, hence the GPS logging. yes? We compete against each other on the team? And each stage is how long? a week?
that jersey is sweet-looking!

The fee is $49.95 per team, do we just split that and paypal you?

Am I missing anything else? how many from your mentor group are interested?

Sounds just about right!  As for the money, I covered it with the expectation that when we get to meet in person you can buy the first round or two.

So just PM me your email address and I will send an invite.

Yesterday I skipped my morning swim to do a 3000m swim in a lake with all the waves from the boat traffic.  I decided to go without my wetsuit since IMLOU will not allow them. This started with others from the tri club I have joined but they all were doing less. I started to cramp calf/foot periodicly but was able to swim through it until I finished the 8th lap out of 13 and both calves cramped. I tried to shake it off but lucky the bouy line was right next to me and I was able to pull my self in. Everybody else was done by then. I did ride for 1:15 just before it. THen today I cramped up twice during swim class. On the positive the teacher  got me to go from 37 strokes to 29 strokes today. She hopes to get me to 25 by the time the IM comes up. We will see. I guess I need to work on my diet since i am cramping all of a sudden.

First real brick of the year, 30 mile bike followed by 5.85 mile run in 2:49 and some seconds.  Not great, not bad.

Hey all!

I was planning on making next year a short course year but they were having a discounted registration for NOLA and signed up for 2012.  Oh well.  Hot and humid here like everywhere else.  This week has been a terrible week for training and hoping next week will be better.

Later all!

Phil and everyone else- Marianne is right. Nothing new on race day. Nothing. Nada. Zippo. Here are a few thoughts - what if that aquacell straw blew out and you couldn't hydrate? What if those new socks rub blisters? What if that tire doesn't seat on your wheel correctly? You can see how catastrophic some of this stuff could be. Almost every race I do I see people buy new shoes at the expo and race in them. WTF? What are you thinking? Manufacturers change shoes ALL the time. A different machine operator cuts the fabric a bit differently affecting the fit. Maybe you can't get fuel out of that new jersey pocket. ------ do people do it? Yes, every race. Do some "get away with it". Yes, if they are lucky. Would I recommend you chance a RACE for it -- NO WAY. Save the new stuff for training and your next race. (Bryan is climbing down off his soapbox).

Billy, for the IM yes.  Wife and I discussed and with new job and such IM training wasn't going to cut it.  I have asked that Redman move me to the 1/2.  Not sure I can make both Austin and Redman but will try.  A bit disappointing but the right decision.

Okay folks, only Lena has stepped up to join the fun for the TDF from this group.  Lets get moving!

Billy, I will type slowly so it will be easier to follow along.

Basics:  you can go here: http://www.mapmyride.com/tdf/how_to_play/

Unofficial basics:

First, send Gary your email address so he can invite you to the group.  Do it now, don't wait, this post will still be here.  Go now, I will wait.  Okay waiting, done yet?  Okay we can move on.

1.  During the Tour de France (July 2-July 24th) ride your bike outside, lots, use a GPS or phone with GPS to track.  Rest days (7/11 and 7/18) don't count.

2.  Upload to Mapmyride.com

3.  Go to our team site and trash talk.  Feel free to state how large your (probably want to use a bike part that works best for your sex, color, or creed) compared to everyone elses, etc

4.  Person in the lead (of our group) gets the honorary yellow jersey (daily or weekly, not sure).

Trash talk more here

Daily prizes are given away (not team based)

If you win something then feel free to xerox your bum and post on some site.  Preferably not here, try the wicked Weasel site.

5.  At the end  the winner in our group wins something (a jersey I believe)

Lots of trash talking happens here

Billy, I found your email address and sent an invite (still waiting on everyone elses!!!!).  Just join and come have fun.  All you have to do is ride your bike while wearing the garmin, upload your rides to mapmyride.com, and possibly win stuff along with trash talking.  Short of free beer how much better can it get.

Gary, i will go online and sign up right quick, only problem is, I am leaving in 30 minutes to go to the mission in Belize and will be gone until the 4th of July.  I guess that will give My Little Ruskie time to get a head start, she will need it!
