I usually ride at cedar creek on Sunday's early before it gets too crowded. Anyone plan on being there this week? How about an ocean swim in Long Beach??

I was just saying I might be riding Cedar Creek on Sunday am.  I agree about riding there before it gets  too crowded with kids/families and leisurely riders.  I made the mistake of riding it on Memorial Day weekend!  What a nightmare that was.

Never swam at Long Beach.  Might be interested but it might be tough for me this weekend (have a lot of other commitments this weekend)

edited to add: I am not  superfast on the bike though...Don't know how experienced everyone else is...

I would love to come out for an early morning ows or bike, I am a beginner too. If you wind up doing anything any day EXCEPT Sunday, I am game! It woudl be great to have some company to ride with.

Sunday morning at Cedar Creek- 7am ride?

Funny how a thread titled OWS ended up in a planned group ride...

Still want to do an OWS though.  I might be able to do one Saturday morning early if anyone has any ideas but I need to be back home by 10am.

JackieSBR - 2009-06-11 10:50 AM Ok I'm in for the bike ride. Also Saturday morning OWS sounds good just not sure where to go....

I'm back on the fence about Sunken Meadow swimming because it is a big gamble for me to make that drive if it doesn't pan out (which has happened before).

I just got some intel on Tobay swimming, and would be very happy to meet down there Saturday morning (sunday's still better for me for swimming, but i'll switch it up if it means i get to swim with a group).

Directions:  Meadowbrook or Wantagh Parkway South to Ocean Parkway; go east on Ocean Parkway (from the Wantagh, this means about a 3/4 circle to your left around the clock tower); continue east on Ocean Parkway from the clock tower for approximately 4.2 miles; you will see a sign for Tobay Beach on your left; make a u-turn and the Tobay entrance will be on your right-hand side; there is a restaurant in the parking lot (called the Singleton's Seafood Shack or the Crab Shack); park near the restaurant, and get into your wetsuit in the parking lot (so i was told, but i guess you can suit up on the beach too); walk behind the restaurant to the beach, and hop in.

here is a link to the restaurant's website where i pulled some of those directions from:  http://www.singletonsseafoodshack.com/index.html

What do you all say?  7:30am?

Just a thought... Would you guys be interested in switching the ride to Saturday am and doing an OWS at Sunken Meadow at 7am on Sunday intstead?  I know that there is supposed to be a group there on Sunday..  If that doesn't work for everyone I can still ride on Sunday and do an OWS on Saturday.

I could do TOBAY on Saturday if we are still going to ride on Sunday, but are there a lot of boats there?  I know there is a marina on the bayside...

OK then why don't we stick to the original plan of riding Cedar Creek on Sunday and maybe those of us who are available on Saturday can set up a swim

I am flexible.  I can swim with a group at Sunken Meadow, then I would ride Cedar Creek on Saturday.
