Tonight, treadmill or bike, depending on how the calf feels

Tomorrow-strength/flexibility work at home. Gotta watch the boy.

Friday-Run or bike, whichever I don't do tonight.

Saturday-going to look at a used Trek 1000.  So, if I buy it, I'll go for a maiden voyage, otherwise I'll run

Sunday-Hill intervals

I have a bunch of tamales in the fridge that my mom brought from Houston.  They're what's for dinner.

Week is FLYIN'! Thurs AM bright and early (is this crazy or what? I'm unemployed but still get up at 435 am to hit the gym! but husband works so I've got to move it before he goes anyhow) I will get to a spin class, maybe a quick short run (1.5 to 2.5 miles) after or some weights. Then Friday, deep water aerobics class then some laps (maybe 600 meters). And Saturday --- depending on how organized I am by Friday evening, I'll shoot to get up and either hit a 6 am spin class or run for 45 mins. Then at 10 am, we fly out of WI to NC for the week. So training will be sporatic if that next week... sort of bums me out. I will catch up on sleep if anything

Oh, good I am already the slacker of the group- both in terms of exercise and posting. This doesn't bode well...

Tuesday-spinning class + 1 hour walking (I walk to work every day)

Wednesday- pilates class + 1 hour walking

Thursday- spinning class + 1 hour walking

Friday- run of indeterminate length + 1 hour walking

Saturday- hopefully a long trail run (yay for being able to go for a trail run someplace other than Central Park!)

Sunday- stealing one of my family member's bikes and hitting some hills

Heading home to MA tomorrow (Jen I am a Patriots fan and SO jealous that you are going to the game!) and excited to be able to run on trails and ride on a bike that actually moves. Also maybe I will finally have time to figure out these logs and whatnot so I don't look like quite as much of a slacker.

Go PATS! Woooo HOOOO!!!

Been to the games years ago when I lived in MA/RI.

But  since moving to WI, I'm also a Packer Fan. But when the Pats and Packers have played, I side with my homies - the Pats!

Boy the Giants suck!  It was horrible.  One of the worst games ever.  So to you ladies who are Pats fans, you were cheering for the right team.

Nekton, Don't worry about slacking.  Its the holidays. Its hard to keep it up this time of year.  Come January 1st no excuses...right?

Welcome back, Emily--I was getting worried that we lost you!  I'm (hopefully) leaving work shortly, and heading to the gym.  Tomorrow, my bike is supposed to arrive via UPS, but we're leaving to go up the PA at about 1pm, so I'm praying that my bike arrives before we leave, otherwise, it'll be a huge pain to get delivered. So, my dearest fellow mentees, I ask your help: please use whatever psychic powers you posess to point the UPS driver to my door early in his route.

I gotta go show some love to my LBS, since I didn't end up buying a bike from him, but I'll need his help putting the bike together and so on.  So I'll probably have to buy the computer, inflator, extra tubes, etc. from him.  He doesn't sell shoes, so I'll have to get those elsewhere.  I went by Jackrabbit (aka JenBunn1e's home away from home), and all of their shoes are really expensive ($125+), so I'll have to look around a little more.

Haha thanks, nope you haven't lost me (yet). That would be mighty quick!

Also, Jen, I just realized that I completely missed the first post you wrote to me...I'm not really the message board type, so you'll have to excuse me while I get used to all this! In response: I need to work on the whole morning exercising thing. It definitely would work better with my schedule, but a) I'm terrible at getting up in the morning (even though I had early morning practice all of college for rowing!) and b) a lot of the classes I like at my gym (like pilates) are offered only at night. Also, I think I'm aiming for the Timberman 70.3 in August, but I know it is a popular course so I really should sign up ASAP, as you suggested. Drat these expensive entry fees and my entry-level salary! The couples duo sounds really fun- if only I had a SO!

Jonah, I'm sending all my speediest thoughts to your UPS driver!

Haha...Love that.  I'm not there all the time.  Okay..sometimes. :P

BTW...You should check out Sunrise Cyclery.  https://shop.sunrisecyclery.com

They are right near my mom's house in Long Island and have a pretty good online business going on.  I've been to both their tri store and bike store.  They also have free shipping.  They're prices are right too.  What kind of pedals are getting?  That will determine what kind of shoes you get.

The pedals are from VP.  I think they have Look-inspired cleats.

So you want to do an ultra?  That's amazing.  fitphd's rr from her ultra was an amazing thing to read.  There's an article in RunnersWorld this month about a crazy ultra in Queens where people run around the block for over 3000 miles.  It takes them like a month and a half to complete.  I'd come visit you if you decided to do that one.  But only to tell you you were insane and try to get you to go home.

So the good news is, the bike arrived.  The bad news is that it's a 50 instead of a 54.  Not sure where the problem happened.  I was having trouble with the order page, so maybe the site malfunctioned, maybe it was operator error, dunno.  Anyway, no big deal-just postponed the gratification by a week or so.  It'll all work out eventually.

I don't have my shoes yet anyway, so it's not as if I could have ridden it this weekend anyway.

Wow...54 to a 50 is a huge difference.  In either case my bike would look like a kids bike compared to yours.  Mine is only a 44.   Yes I'm a shorty pants at 5'1".

That just means you're more aerodynamic.

So, I got a gift certificate for $200 at SBR, a local (kinda high-end) tri shop, and one, unfortunately, that I've had some problems with in the past (snotty sales help seems to be the rep they've acquired). Still, I'm not about to look a gift horse in the mouth.  $200 is right in the "entry-level wetsuit" range, so I'm going to have to go over there and see what they've got.

In the meantime, I'm gearing up for UPS-hell as I try to negotiate shipping back this undersized bike and figuring out how to get the new one shipped to me. Happy thoughts.  It may be a pain, and it may take a while, but in the end, I'll have a really cool new bike that I love, and which will be fast fast fast.

Oh, yeah: Jen, do you remember when the NYC 1/2 Mary was last year?  I just saw something about a sprint tri in Coney Island on 7/14 that looks like fun, but it seems to me that that was right around the half marathon.  (Coney might make a nice tuneup for the NYC tri the following weekend....interested?

I'm thinking of doing the NYC marathon qualifiers this year for 2008. I don't know if I'll be running the actual marathon in 2008, but thought I should at least try to qualify for it as a first step. My question is, is it worth getting my own Champion chip? or should I just use the ones that they give out?

thx,

Sonny

Hey Fellow Jenbunners! How is everyone doin' now that the holiday lazy hazy days are over?!?! Feels good to get back into the swing of my work out schedule again. Start swimming lessons next Monday - should be a hoot! And am beginning to zero in on some tris for the summer. I gotta get some speed in my feets and bod! And have toyed with upping the ante at some point to an Olympic but I may just stick with sprints again to see if I can go faster than last year. Not sure I could do the distance of an Olympic ... well, when all put together sounds long or at least since I'm a BOP'er I'd be out there for a good part of the day!

Whatya guys up to for winter workouts? Pools, outside runs, indoor runs, weights etc...?

Happy New Year Everyone!

Now to answer your question, I believe if you sign up to be a New York Road Runner before the end of January and then do the nine races in 2007 with NYRR then you can qualify for 2008...But you need to be a member before the end of Jan. 31st.

I have my own Champion chip.  I like it since I don't have to wait to get my chip clipped at the end of the race.  Also, I've used it during the triathlon and the Philly Marathon.  If I don't make it in time to get my number I still get scored.

Its been so mild out, I can't help but run outside.  What tris do you think you will do?  It seems like a lot of them are filling up.  I'm signed up for an Olympic this year...I get to fight with the sharks during NYC Tri.  Should be fun I hope.  Swimming is my weak sport...so we'll see how that goes.  I'm on the quest for Boston this year.

I checked it out and the 1/2 was August 27th.  Hopefully they will give more notice this year.  They annouced it like 2 months in advance.  Coney Island Eh?  Perhaps....but I'm doing Philly so not sure how I will feel.  Crazy huh, I'm not scared of doing 2 marathons back to back weekends but doing a sprint tri back to back scares the heebee jeebees out of me.

Wow! Boston Marathon! I used to live in Boston ...oh fond memories but that's another subject. Anyhow, my hat's off to ya. The farthest I've run to date all at one time is only 4.1 miles! An Olympic sounds awesome but I don't know if I could do it yet or at least finish within 10 hours. How do you do your training for one? Done one before?

I haven't tried running since I hurt my calf, but it's feeling a little better lately, so I may test it out on a treadmill over the weekend.  I'm so bummed to be missing this great weather.  I'm going to try to swim tonight.

Wow, was my gym crowded last night!  I went there late (like, 9-ish) and 80% of the 'mills and all of the stationary bikes were taken.  After I rode (on a spinbike in the empty spin-class studio), I went upstairs to stretch, and couldn't find a mat, or a ball, or a foam roll.  I'm afraid to see what the pool looks like tonight.
