Extreme Veteran 1574 | Subject: RE: Fifth Annual Tour De France Challenge Announcement I'm in, also don't have a clue where to go next, but I'm sure I will be informed. I will be different and request Team Europcar (dream bike's a Colnago) but as stated above I'm new so I request to be just a team member. |

Veteran 329 El Paso, Texas | Subject: RE: Fifth Annual Tour De France Challenge Announcement owl_girl - 2011-06-24 3:10 PM Welcome to BT Challenges! Thanks. I looked at the thread created last year and I think I'm doing this right: I will ride 23 stages for 345 miles, and I want to be on Team _______ [fill in this blank with whatever team Yanti is on because she's the patron saintess of newbies]. Can I do the 23 stages in 21 days since I probably can't ride on July 3 and 4? I'll be happy to double up the following weekend, doing 15 miles in the morning and 15 miles in the evening. Or if I know now that there will be two days where I can't bike do I need to reduce my number of stages? I'm also assuming that we can can do 20 miles one day and 10 the next and have it count as 30 miles total—the only way I will be able to average 15 miles a day for three weeks is if I can throw is some 20/30/40 mile rides on weekends and just go the minimum 15-20 minutes on some weekdays. And I don't understand the Google spreadsheet thing or see where the 100 posts per hour are supposed to go. |

Royal(PITA) 14270 West Chester, Ohio | Subject: RE: Fifth Annual Tour De France Challenge Announcement bwingate - 2011-06-24 8:25 PM Rule # 9 means that we are not to discuss any of the race that is happening in France in the forum until 24 hours after that days event. Thus, say they have a day with a lot of surprises or lots of wrecks.....you get the drift.....this happens July 10....we cannot discuss it in the thread until July 11 has hit all over the world. Remember, there are folks who will sign up for this challenge (it's by far the most popular one!) from all parts of the world. Many will want to watch the TdF action live or dvd'd. We do not want spoilers in the forum threads. There will be a thread specifically set up to discuss TdF in the Peleton forum. THe folks who visit those threads may also have a similar rule....I don't know off hand if that's the case.I'm in - but I have two questions: 1) I'm assuming that I've got some time to determine my goals right? 2) What does rule #9 mean? |

I was planning a lot of bike riding in July anyway.Hey I'm new to this, but I'm in. What do I have to do next? Is there a BT TdF Challenge for Dummies primer available? if not, could someone explain to newbies what is expected before, during and after? OK, it's what all the other posts said... But basically, here's what you need to do now: 1) Tell Cat you want to participate. (You've done this.) 2) Wait for Cat to announce the teams. 3) Go to your team and introduce yourself. 4) Wait for me to announce that the spreadsheets are ready. 5) Go to your spreadsheet and track your progress through the 21 days of the challenge. 6) Keep visiting your team's thread to see what everyone else is doing. (But don't discuss the real TdF's activity that day, since we don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't watched it yet. That's the purpose of the 24 hour discussion ban. It would be like someone telling you who won the Super Bowl before you've had a chance to watch it.) 7) Ride your bike lots. |

Yes, that's pretty much it. In the Challenge forum, there's a 24 hour ban on discussing the real TdF's stage for the day.... In the Peleton forum, there are usually 2 threads. One is for "Predictions" (who do you think will win the day's stage). The second is for discussion about the actual stage and is usually labeled with "Spoilers!" in the thread name, so people know the stage is being discussed. |

I should have just gone to the Peleton forum and copied/pasted Dale's post, which says: "If you create a post for race predictions, please create 2 separate posts, 1 for race predictions and 1 for discussion/spoilers." In the Challenge forum though, there will always be a 24 hour ban on discussing TdF stages. |

And I don't understand the Google spreadsheet thing or see where the 100 posts per hour are supposed to go. I think Cat covered this in Rule 4. (See below.) It looks like you just need to log it as two separate rides. And yes, you can do 20 miles one day and 10 the next, giving you a total of 30 miles. 4. If your commute (one way) is less than 15 minutes... then you can combine the two commutes as one stage for the purposes of this tour. If you wish for each of your bike commutes to count as two stages (and they are longer than 15 minutes) then you should log them as two separate rides in your training log. As for the Google spreadsheet - don't worry about it yet. After Cat sets up the teams, I'll tell everyone the location of the spreadsheets and how to access them. And the 100 posts per hour will be on the teams where Yanti, Bill or Dale are. (Not me. I'm quiet. Hahahahaha.) If you don't want to be on a chatty team, just tell Cat. (Some people don't like it when they're on teams that have a thousand posts to keep up with.) |

Champion 26509 Sydney | Subject: RE: Fifth Annual Tour De France Challenge Announcement Hi everyone,
Just wanted to reassure the newbies we will look after you! Dee and Judi have pretty much answered all the questions but its a friendly bunch here so we dont expect you to know it all! Generally i try and get a few experienced participants on each team unless there is a request for a newbie team so that theres always someone to aske questions or Im generally available (but just remember Im in Australia so there is a time difference!)
In terms of announcing teams and such... I will post a NEW thread in the Challenge forum around the end of this week. Once again - dont forget there is a time difference! I will also do some team intros so even if you arent a To*ur De France watcher you can pick up some bits nad pieces! Might even get me back on my bike if my health stays the way it has been the last couple of days
July.... its my favourite time of the year! (if only it wasnt the middle ofwinter!)
Happy pedalling! Cat |
