Back in April, I cramped up during the run portion of an oly. I also start to cramp on my long rides that are around two hours. I know I need the extra electrolytes.

Those cramps are more likely a fitness issue than an electrolyte issue.

Possibly so. But when I upped my intensity on swimming and running, more than I had been doing, I started getting foot cramps in the pool. My trainer said to drink some electrolytes during the day and once I started doing that on the long training days, I didn't have any more problems with it.

Or perhaps your body started to adapt to the increased intensity and training load.

I concur with the Gatorade powder comment. I only mix it 1/2 strength to put a bit of taste in the water for the 3 hrs and under rides. Even if i have full strength stuff with me, I always have water too because you shouldn't wash down food/gels with full power Gatorade.

This sport is too expensive as it is to get cheap with what keeps you going during a race that you spent 9 months preparing for and paid $475 to enter.

Remember that the world's dumbest kidney is smarter than the world's smartest exercise physiologist.

Shop around, the price is wildly different-Safeway has 32oz bottles for $1 each, and I half em with water making it .50 cents a water bottle full, Target puts it on sale for about the same. The same bottle at 7-11 up the street, $2.59....go figure

Gatorade doesn't really agree with me.  Powerade is fine, but I worry about putting substances into my body that I can't pronounce, so when I have time I mix one part oj, one part water with a dash of salt and a gob of honey and shake.  It gets me through the long rides nicely and doesn't give me "gator-gut"
