My two cents - use the yellow sponge and lid together. I tried without the yellow sponge and just used the cap and still got splashback on some rough roads. Stuck the yellow sponge in, and just pulled a bit out above the cap and then closed the lid on it to keep it in place.

No splashback - no gatorade bath. No harm using them both.

The yellow sponge is there to mark your way along the race course... jut follow the yellow sponges to large bumps/potholes.

lol, i had no idea there was such an interest in that damn little yellow thingy

anyhow...

i went out on a 30 mile ride this morning with my new bottle. i put my bottle in my aerobars with only the rubberbands holding it secure and it worked flawlessly. no splashing, spilling, or bottle slipping from the bars....all was well.
