Since everyone had so many great and encouraging words regarding this thread I just wanted to update everyone.  This whole situation really made me take stock of the past 11+ years and I have decided to make a drastic career change.  I have been hired as a police officer and will begin the police academy on February 6th.  It has been a draining 3 months since hearing the news that my job would end.  First dealing with the realism of that and then the process of trying to get hired in law enforcement itself is quite an ordeal(written test, physical agility test, background investigation, oral interview board, interview with city manager and Chief, psychological exam, polygraph test, and finally a full medical exam).  But, this is something I have thought about doing since I was a kid.  My wife even remembers me talking about it waaayyy back when we first met about 19 years ago.  It is now a reality.  It will mean a lot of changes in my life and my family's.  Major pay cut, different hours, and of course the inherent dangers of the job.  But my wife is 100% behind me.  Assuming I survive the academy I will be on the street by July.

Wow!  Congratulations and good luck.  When I first started reading the thread I didn't realize it was a thread from a while ago.  It's so cool to read that final post after reading the difficulties you were having last fall with this issue.  Congrats again.

A cop in Texas would be cool. I think some of those guys still wear cowboy hats just like Chuck Norris. Maybe you can pull over you x boss and give him some tickets before he moves to rainy Nashville.

Those would be state troopers and Texas Rangers(yes like Chuck Norris).  I won't be wearing any cowboy hats.  I can't believe Chuck Norris got brought into this thread.
