The new CBA and rookie salary cap was implemented to help hold down salaries for rookies who hadn't done a thing in the NFL yet and boost salaries for veteran players with years of experience in the league. Instead, all the money is going to a handful of stars, especially the elite QB's, and veteran role players are getting cut left and right to pay the contracts of these select few. I think they're going to have to re-examine things again soon. But when you look at it, it's kind of like what has been going on in corporate America as well. CEO compensation keeps growing at the expense of valuable, experienced employees. pitt83 - 2013-04-26 6:31 PM JoshR - 2013-04-26 6:48 PM Your Seahawks have an invoice due very soon. They'd better run up the credit card now, because the bill is coming. Sincerely yours: Russell Wilson XOXOscoobysdad - 2013-04-26 3:51 PM JoshR - 2013-04-26 4:39 PM QB Salaries are going to start killing teams. Now the Packers have $101m for 52 guys during that contract. You know what really kills teams? Not having a QB as good as Aaron Rodgers. Roethlisberger/E. Manning/Flacco aren't in the same conversation as Rodgers. Didn't stop them. This day scares me, and it's going to be a big, big bill. Funny, I was having that exact same conversation about the comparison with corporate CEO salaries the other day, and how things need to be looked at for possible restructuring. It seems crazy to me to be paying out such vast sums to players who haven't played a single moment in the NFL yet. |

I think the rookie salary cap has largely brought that under control. Now the contracts that newly drafted players are going to be signing is largely determined simply by where they were selected. What was unforeseen is where the resulting savings have been going-- largely to just a handful of star players, not the veteran players who aren't stars but still have a few good years left in them. Really, it's been the older, experienced players who have been paying for the huge contracts signed by the likes of Romo, Rodgers, Flacco and Revis. |

I would still like to see what that guy could do in a situation that is not a complete mess. pitt83 - 2013-04-28 11:49 AM JoshR - 2013-04-28 11:18 AM No one can QB that mess of an offense. 1 guy is taking the heat for the 10 lousy ones in the huddle with him. They should have drafted quantity. Jets will be drafting another QB in 2016 if not sooner. Expect a decade of mediocrity. pitt83 - 2013-04-27 4:40 AM From ESPN.com: If they cut Sanchez -- when they cut him -- the Jets probably will take a $12.35 million cap hit. Add in the cap charge for the departed Revis, and you're talking about $25.35 million in ghost money -- 20 percent of the salary cap devoted to two players no longer on the team. If they decide Geno is the QB, this is the way to go. Just remove the circus completely. Also dump Tebow IMO. If they think he really has a chance to be their QB, they need to do this. Yeah, so with this thought in mind, start cutting guys, clean house, take the $$$$ hit, and try to build from scratch. A new coach might be in order as well. Yeah, me too. Let him use his skill set, not just the tangible ones, and if he fails, so be it. But no one is going to succeed in Jet land. Not for a while anyway. |

Owners would never go for it. |
