I generally wake up about 2:50, turn off the alarm that's set for 3:00 (I've not heard the alarm in YEARS)
Do workout number 1 (run/bike). Feed the cats. Wake teenage son up for school
or
Feed cats, wake son up and drag him to pool with me
Get to work around 6:00
Leave work at 2:30
Feed cats
Do workout number 2 (run/bike)
If brick, do workout number 3
Make dinner, kiddo makes side dishes, we sit down and watch whatever DVD we're in the mood for and chill. Then it's time to feed dogs, 7:30 pm
A bit of pickup and some laundry and it's time to get to bed, around 9:00-10:00 and start it all over again.

College student, so it's easy (for now). Usually only have classes around lunch time, so I can easily do a morning and afternoon/evening workout pretty much any day. They're great study breaks! Which reminds me... I should've headed out the door 10 minutes ago to run, guess I better get on that!

So what are your types for fitting everything into your life without feeling frazzled?

I always feel frazzled when I think about the lack of time I have for training.

I work 24 hour shifts, so while at work I try to fit in a run or lifting session sometime between 1500 and 0700.  Sometimes I can get a quick run in right after shift before I go home. I usually get 4-5 hours of broken sleep while at work.

At home on my 'in between days' (the 24 hours between shifts) I usually get on the elliptical and/or do a lifting session - These days are the best days for me to do yoga or a kettlebell workout as they are relatively quick and quiet.  I normally get 5-6 hours of sleep on my between shift days.

On my other days off (more than 24 hours off) I run or bike on the days my daughter is in preschool.  On the days my daughter is home I either run (stroller) or ride my bike (trailer) with daughter to the library, park or just an out and back thing. These are the days I get the most sleep at night, usually catch up with 7 hours on these days.

I also have officer classes on Tuesday and Thursday nights for 3 hours.  So on those days I find myself struggling to find the best time management strategy.  I have to fit homework in somewhere too.

Yes, it's crazy, thus the reason I normally feel frazzled when it comes to scheduling a workout.

kept waiting for someone to respond with "that's what she said!"

I have a wife, 2 kids, 1 on the way, and work 40+ hours a week. You always find time to do the things you really WANT to do.

Time management is definitely the key. But also there's that whole "put the large rocks in the jar first" analogy -- if you're trying to fit training into the cracks of your already-busy life, it probably won't work. But if you schedule the training along with the other "most important" things, the other smaller things that always seem to fill up time will fit in the cracks. You'd be amazed what time you actually have.

if you standardize a routine, it's amazing what you can fit in.  The key is you have to be consistent with military precision.  5 minutes can mean the difference between getting a workout in or not.  The more you cram in, the more you need to be organized.  Being frazzled is a direct result of too much stuff and not enough order.

You just need to sit down and figure out when you have free time and what your training plan is, mesh the two, and stick with it.  If it doesn't work, instead of improvising, sit back down and figure out what didn't work, then fix it.
