just after we moved to Nevada, we recieved a $1200 cell phone bill!  We had AT&T, which became Cingular.  We had been roaming, apparently, and roaming far and wide, apparently!

the phone never told us we were roaming!  I about died of a heart attack that morning!

I called and they said yes, they did believe that I did not know I was roaming, and would put the request in to adjust my bill.  I said thankyou, made an estimate of what the bill might be to pay for a "good faith" gesture, and waited for the adjusted bill.  (And turned off the phone, of course).  Well, since we had just moved, it took some time for that bill to catch up with us and sure enough, the bill the next month was up to $1500 for the roaming we did between the last bill issue date and recieving.  I was on the phone again, and again they told me they would put in a request for the refund.  This went on every month with me spending about 40 minutes average on the phone explaining to a new customer rep the situation.  The first call was April 4 and just last week I finally recieved a bill that, get this! they OWE ME $110!  I will ride it out until it is used up and then cancel.

Where I live no you can only get Cellular One, and the tower is down this weekend.....

Two tin cans and very long string. Talk if you can plan. (service not very good on long distance or around corners)

We had a Cingular account $20 per month with very few anytime minutes. The phone wasn't great. Whoever had the kids took the phone basically. No contract, it was month to month. Half the time the phone sat in a kitchen drawer.

Katrina convinced us that we each should have a phone so we can be in touch wherever we are. This weekend we went with T-Mobile: shared plan, $50 per month, 500 anytime minutes, free nights and weekends, free calling to each other, 1 year contract, 2 free Samsung phones with browsers etc. The saleman threw in a few accessories that I pointed at. The reception is so-so inside some buildings, but mostly good. We're happy so far, no buyers remorse.

I hate Cingular, but I still have them (and have for years).  They cover me in rural Missouri, unlike the rest of the options here, so I'm stuck. Their customer service is SUCKY at best. I also hate Nokia phones, they crap out after a year. Now, I will only buy phones on ebay to avoid having to sign another contract.  I can leave anytime. Since I got my most recent phone (Samsung Flippy kind, no pictures), and the merger with AT&T, I have better reception and drop fewer calls. Verizon and T-mobile offer good coverage here too according to my friends.

I pay 46 bucks a month (incl taxes, etc) for 40-500 min (I never use them all) too many rollover minutes and umpteen million night and weekend minutes. I hate cell phones. If I didn't drive so much for work, I wouldn't have one.

For all you sprint and nextel people...they have now merged under Sprint's name.
