Seems much more divisive now. Perhaps it's because of the change in media. There was little talk radio; and the talk radio there was did not get in your face. Of course, there was no public internet. All of the news came through the gateway of the three TV networks and the major newspapers. Perhaps that helped the public be a little more reflective. It just seems like so much communications now is about scoring political points and controlling spin. I remember adults disagreeing with politicians and still treating them with respect. They seemed to be able to separate the politician's idea from the person. I blame both "sides" for the mess we're in. |
